According to the NPI updated at 7pm today, UMHB would be in the playoffs

Curious what upsets happened that allowed UMHB to beat the odds.

The big ones were Marietta losing to John Carroll and UW-Oshkosh losing to UW-River Falls. Wabash losing to DePauw also played a factor. However, none of those three that lost were the favorites (according to Logan's projections) in their respective games, so not upsets. But those three were ahead of UMHB heading into today, and ended up outside the Top 12 with their losses, creating the opportunity for UMHB to move up. Without at least two of those happening, UMHB probably would've ended up on the outside looking in.

The Third Division

So a team with wins to 3 different d3 opponents is making the playoffs.

This will totally not set off a firestorm at all!

If UMHB truly reached out to everyone to schedule a game and only 1 team accepted, nobody has room to complain. Any bubble team that thinks they have a better team than UMHB was given an invite to prove it on the field.

Like! Double like! And, +1 karma.

Can't say I was expecting UMHB to make the playoffs... Not getting my hopes off but it would be nice if we could knock HSU out of the playoffs haha.

If we are lying about that and in any intentionally way ended up with UWW, NAIA Bethel and 2 uncountable games then Larry Harmon and Randy Mann were smoking the real good stuff that day haha

This narrative that we didn't play enough games is laughable to me, like our schedule was so much better when instead of beating HPU twice we played HPU and insert former ASC member. Nothing we have done this year or last has shown that we have fallen so far that we would have lost multiple times in the old ASC. In fact this year in the old ASC we probably would have been 9-1 and easily in the playoffs.

New system, same bull**** playoff pairings. I know, I know, geography.

My only surprise is they didn't give TLU or Trinity an easier matchup to increase the chances of a 3rd round Texas bus trip.

Pretty sure I know what you are feeling but in defense of the bracket, with HSU being the #2 overall seed, playing UMHB or Trinity who are one of the lowest seeds fits.

I know, but giving TLU a first round bye is surprising. I personally would have sent UMHB to Oregon to play Linfield. Have TLU and Trinity have a first round rematch instead of a potential 3rd game in round two, and then a potential third game in the third round. But Hey, if you're going to make a run at a championship you have to win, bottom line. Let's see how it plays out.

Same boat, definitely not expecting a Stagg Bowl run but I will likely drag myself down to San Antonio and hopefully up to Abilene for R2. I hope to be proved wrong about my statements about the coaching staff, sincerely. Fire up the #RoadDogs Bus and GO CRU!

Just for kicks and grins comparison, Bethel also made it in by losing twice to a top team in St. John's, beating 5 total creampuffs, and beating 3 mediocre teams. UMHB arguably has three equivalent or better wins (UWW and ETBU X 2) than Bethel's best win vs Concordia Moorhead. UMHB belongs in the playoffs if teams like Bethel belong.

Yes, Bethel is the best comparison to UMHB's current situation. The only way to poke hole in UMHB playoff worthiness is to examine if their wins were good enough, not their losses.
