Some blatant holds being missed on this Trinity drive

UMHB03

Lots of missed opportunities for the Crusaders, but credit to the team for digging deep and finding a way to win.

Agreed

I'll be on the deer lease after Thanksgiving, about an hour from Abilene. Wondering if it will be worth driving in for the game.

Hard to beat a team three times in a season. Should be a fun one. See everyone in Abilene!

Being a homer, my initial thought upon UMHB winning was that the HSU/UMHB game next week might be the best in the bracket. But upon further review, oh boy, there's gonna be some slobber knockers next Saturday.

UMHB at HSU
UW La Crosse at St. Johns
UW Platteville at Wartburg
John Carroll at Mount Union

Streaming data might be getting a workout.

Once again, Trinity plays us really close and it is a coin toss until the end... Pretty cool seeing Dorien Hill out there at LB with big brother Durand. Even cooler that they both had 4 solo tackles, 6 assists and 10 total tackles...

Logan Hansen only has the Cowboys as a 4.4 point favorite on Saturday - good luck!

ASC fans will want to have a listen to what Pat and Greg say about the situation UMHB (and HSU) find themselves in schedule- (and conference-) wise in this week's ATN Podcast.  It's around or slightly before the 40 minute mark.

I haven't made it totally through the podcast, but Larry Harmon's comment that D3 football is becoming intramural sports [my summary, not a quote] will definitely get some discussion.

ETBU freshman QB Kaden Brown (176-251-2, 23 TDs, 2376 yards), the ASC Offensive Player of the Year, has entered the transfer portal.

Southwestern (1462 students) and Trinity (2457) are essentially gone from the SCAC and Hendrix (1101) is coming So...

UMHB (3112) has the largest enrollment of any school in Football Region 3 and third behind UC Santa Cruz (17052) and Chapman (4069) in Hoops Region 10.

The football facility by any measurement is Top 10 in D3, and admirably comparable to anything in D2

My first question to Coach Harmon is whether he considers (football-playing) schools in this part of the country for which UMHB has 220 % (HSU at 1411) to 615% (Centenary LA 506) more enrollment as peer institutions.

I would say that the SCAC schools have assessed the mission, vision and resources available and re-aligned the priorities of each school for intercollegiate athletics.

(This may be totally off-base (and educational comments to this concern will be greatly appreciated), but how deep are the pockets for NIL resources at UMHB as that thing rolls out?)

That still gets back to the "intra mural" comment as being sarcastic, but valid. SCAC members want to be members of D3 but don't want to compete at the real D3 level. SCAC members want a playoff qualifier pass without having the ability to actually participate meaningfully in the playoffs. "Avoidance of excellence" should be the SCAC football motto.

Not a fan of Padron's (Harmon's -- Embarrassingly I misidentified UMHB's coach multiple times despite Pat Coleman's attempts to correct me. Apologize to both men and would correct it but then Pat's comments wouldn't make sense) comments. Calling D3 intramurals plays into some real bad stereotypes and demeans thousands off student athletes all for his narrow, self-serving perspective.

And I also take umbrage with the podcast talking about teams blocking UMHB. No one is blocking them, they just don't want to play them. I don't make my kids play with children they don't like, don't have the same values, and do t get along with. UMHB is not entitled to teams wanting to play them.

They made a choice to focus massive resources on football in order to grow and better their school. But as I always tell my kids, choices have consequences, sometimes we don't see them coming and really don't like them, but that doesn't mean they aren't valid to someone else.

The choices of the SCAC teams may come back with consequences they don't like. We will just have to wait and see.

But don't demean D3 athletes because you aren't getting your way. That's not leadership, it's sour grapes.

Curious -- did you actually listen? Harmon made the comments and the talk about teams blocking UMHB is a hypothetical raised in response to people raising a suggestion that a school play a minimum of D-III games in order to qualify. (There is a minimum in place, and UMHB met it.)
