Well McMurry is an established university with full d3 membership and a d3 conference affiliation.

And Schreiner is just a d3 school fielding a new team in 1.5 years.

None of them are cheeseburger universities.

I welcome you to join my discord server to see how long you last if you're gonna act this way to real d3 schools.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, small seven figures were allegedly being offered as an incentive.  I have heard from several sources today - both Hogue and D3vbwest as well as others - that the magnitude of the amount was correct.  The two schools in question have small endowments - Schreiner around $78M (as of May 2023), McMurry a similar amount (May 2024) - so a million dollars could make a significant difference to those schools.

The source of the funds is unknown.  The ASC front office isn't it.

Edit:  Hogue only inferred the amounts were correct, but enough others have confirmed it that I'm confident it's correct.

This is welcome news.

On a side note.... dang, McMurry sure does like to jump around. :D

Well then if money rules d3 then I guess membership goes to the highest bidder.

Bad look for everyone if they bribed them to come imho.

Not sure what's worse... bribing them to come... or accepting a bribe to come.

Centenary has to be eyeballing this......

This hopefully stabilizes things for a couple of years.

I wonder if McMurry and Schreiner had to agree to a certain time frame to stay?

2 years?  5 years? Longer?

Gotta wonder if Sul Ross returns after their D2 experiment.

UMHB03

With the SCAC no longer having enough members for an automatic qualifier in football (unless I'm missing something), I wonder if any more of their members could be lured to the ASC, as affiliate members for football if nothing else.

Lyon and Hendrix have to be scratching their heads

If they were to jump aboard, along with Centenary, it would give ETBU some solid travel partners.

Austin College might prefer to affiliate with Trinity and Southwestern in the SAA for football due to their academic reputation.

If Centenary and/or Hendrix were to join the ASC.....

I'd be telling the rest of the SCAC to kick rocks.

Especially if Sul Ross was to return after their D2 experiment

Every time a large chunk of money comes around we always joke they called Drayton Mclane...

New stadium, New scoreboard...

I've heard that AC has, in no uncertain terms, no desire to join the SAA (and the feeling may be mutual, though that is less sure given that the SAA accepted Maryville).  If the SCAC loses more members that very well could change because as we have seen today you do what you gotta do to survive.  A Hendrix/AC combo could appeal to the SAA and I can see HX not wanting to hang around if the SCAC can't come up with a sixth school to play football pronto.

Wow. That's coming from left field. Six teams still makes it difficult to schedule for football. Other sports are probably easier to fill with non-con opponents.

I'm guessing six won't be the final member count.

Have to think that no matter the source of the income, the Baptist 4 were very determined to stay in D3 as it gives them the ability to have much larger rosters and hopefully in the long run have a smaller geographic footprint.

If you you are UMHB or HSU I can imagine you willing to write a big check rather then have all of your teams hoping on jets to get non conference games.

The Third Division

What if the money was pooled from the baptist 4 equally to invite McMurry and Schreiner?
