Three guys battling for the job.

Jake Wright still technically #1 on the depth chart which is fair because he was our QB1 second half of the year and acquired some playoff experience. No issue with it being his job to lose - I think that is a fair approach from coach Lee.

The other two guys fighting for the job are Seth Mouser, former 3 star UTEP/Juco transfer and Reggie Moody Jr.

Mouser is 6'6" and mobile and was the highest rated JUCO transfer in all of Division 3 according to 247 sports & AthLinkd database.

Reggie Moody is a 5'11 dual threat improviser from Red Oak, he was one of the best high school QB recruits I've seen us get in 5-10 years. Reminds me of Vernon Adams Jr a bit, if anyone remembers him from Eastern Washington/Oregon.

Looks like QB1 will be in good hands next season.. excited to see how it unfolds.
Mouser is a fascinating prospect, and he seems to have all the tools. But Moody is lightning in a bottle. Maybe the best dual-threat QB I've seen in a Cru jersey since Blake Jackson.

Rev,

My thoughts exactly. Between those two guys there is more potential we've seen at the QB position in a VERY long time. I realize comparing a D3 kid to Vernon Adams is high praise to say the least but I am not exaggerating, kid could be an all timer.

Then you've got Mouser, legit FBS caliber arm and frame at 6'6".

Very exciting position battle to watch, even more so now with coach Lee back.

UMHB schedule still not final.  Tickets won't go on sale until July :O

Dang!!  Well, we know they have 7 games for sure and we know the dates of at least 3 of those---the HSU games and the UW-W game.  I looked at all of last years teams from the final top 25 poll and there are only 7 teams that did not have schedules posted yet-------wondering if any of those schools might be possibilities.

Does this mean the schedule won't be out until then? If so that's absurd.

Don't know, just got the email saying renewal starts 8 July, and public sales start the 28th.

St Johns is looking for games on Sept 6 and Sept 13th.  Wonder if that is a possibility?

UMHB is hosting Bethel (TN) on Sept. 6 at 6 pm. So Week 1 is already accounted for.

Ok, well that makes 8 games accounted for. Wonder who the other two opponents will be?

This portal crap ruins D3, ruins all of college football really IMO

jknezek

When you are a D3 school recruiting football players instead of a school recruiting students, this is what happens. The athletics really should be a companion piece to the academics. But we've seen schools, in the search for football championships and basketball championships especially, making the sport the important part. How does that make sense when you are paying to play and your odds of going pro are about 10-15 in 3000 D3 football playing seniors per year... counting European leagues and Canada and indoor, not just the NFL, where it's probably less than 1 per year on average?

It doesn't. But that's what happened at too many D3s who think the point is to win championships, not education. D3 isn't a mini-D1. When the priorities get confused, this is what happens. I just don't have much sympathy. It's not the portal that ruined D3, its priorities that have filtered down to the athletes. One crappy set of credits a student doesn't care about is the same as another crappy set of credits at another school, the important thing is playing time, right?

If your D3 team is constantly in the portal recruiting, something is wrong. If your D3 team is constantly losing kids to the portal, something is wrong. Students aren't coming for your school, your school is just a few large checks and the annoyance of credits while they get to play football.
