So ... Salinas played after all. A satisfying win for TLU, capping off an otherwise disappointing season, against a team that gave them some painful pastings in earlier years.

I'm really surprised that HSU lost to TLU, especially with a conference championship and an automatic bid on the line.  Was this the TLU team we anticipated at the beginning of the season?

This may be old news to you guys on this board, but I don't read the posts here regularly.

My son just told me that Trinity made the ESPN top ten plays last night.  Some kind of "crazy pass."

Nice D3 recognition.

Sounded like they fired on all cylinders.  All 5 of their losses were 8 points or less including a 7 point loss to both UMHB and Trinity.  So I guess they could conceivably have been 6 or 7 plays away from a 10-0 season.

Weak Safety,  great observation.  I heard the TLU radio guys say that last night.  I know they played very well against UMHB and seemed to be controlling the game early.  A play here or there could have made for a much better season.  I also think that winning close games is what seperates the good teams from those that want to be.

What the ASC really needs to do is win South Region games!

The LaCollege loss to Rhodes cost everyone in the ASC 0.2 points on the QOWI.  A win over a LaCollege with a South Region  record would have been worth 12-13 points (home/road) instead of 10-11 QOWI points because of their 4-5 South Region record.  Apparently that extra 0.2 would not have boosted HSU above Hampden-Sydney who also did not get a bid, but scheduling and winning South Region games will be key.

Hopefuly we can schedule (and win) more games against South Region opponents.  That includes beating SCAC teams such as Austin College, Rhodes, Millsaps and Trinity and independents such as Huntingdon and LaGrange.

What we don't have in the ASC are several other teams/conference concentrated around us as they have in upstate New York.  The Liberty League, Empire 8 and even Cortland St from the NJAC are concentrated in a compact and can boost their records against weaker teams.

Good luck to UMHB.  Make a huge statement for the ASC!

TLU played like they were expected to all season, except for a couple of Hinajosa scrambles HSU running game was not there. The small defensive line from TLU stuffed HSU's running game, TLU found the running game that they had missed all year, Tlu's back up qb came in for 1 play and threw a 73 yard touchdown. This was the first time I got to see HSU this year, I was very impressed with their speed in the secondary, their defensive line did not get it done against a small offensive front. Just an observation but having seen both HSU and UMHB play TLU, I was much more impressed with UMHB. I know that Hinajosa is the 3rd string QB but I am talking about the whole team. I think that #5 was averaging 7 yards a carry before he ran into a buzz saw saturday night. Hopefully with our very young team we can build on the victory for next year and be focused for every game and not just against the power houses. Played all of the big ones close but did not stay focused for the winnable ones. Carry the ASC banner UMHB to a Stagg bowl victory Crusaders.

Was Pat correct in saying that if UMHB beat Trinity and Wesley beat Ferrum that a second rd game would be at Wesley? If that is the case then UMHB really gets screwed. They have been ahead of Wesley in the Regional rankings since they came out. Its a flight either way so it better be a flight to Texas. Right?

If Ferrum and UMHB win, the game would also be at Ferrum?  That is hard to believe if Wesley wins.

Bill this is the AA we're talking about.  Just drop your pants, smile and grab ankle. ;)
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

So, roocru, if my team gets to meet your team,(and that's a big if, I'll grant you), we have to fly to Texas.  So my question is this, if I can pay for the ticket down, I'll have to find accomodations somewhere.  If I were to bring brownies????
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

mhb8904, I'm too old for that.  Here's to the UMHB road warriors.  Also, everybody seems to forget that Trinity will have home field all the way to the semis if they win.

Should MHB win some more road games in the playoffs, having a MHB road warrior shirt made seems like it should be a no brainer

Amen...on a different thread it was speculated that trinity would be the #1 seed and UMHB #3.  Unless UMHB has horrendous facilities, I cannot imagine they would have to travel to a lower seed.  After all, the plane costs as much going from TX to VA as the other way around...

Olinemom,

If we get to play I'll make sure that it happens.  :)

Just don't let llamaguy, the kid, skoaltrain or any else in the Stone Station crew think they can jump on that bandwagon.   ;D
