If UMHB and Linfield meet in the semi's, I got the tailgater going here in Catland. And, if anyone needs a place to stay or a ride from/to the airport, let me know, I will do all I can to accomodate!

GO PRUPLE CRUsh!
  GO Linfield!

Well, Kelly, no Stagg rematch :(
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Hey Toby,

I will take a semi-final match-up. It would be great to host the CRU fans here at McMinnville. Lot's of football still to be played though.

Go Purple CRUsh.. Go Wildcats... git 'er done!

If it happens, I won't be there.  My middle daughter has an MRI and neurology appt. scheduled for the next Tuesday.  Medical money is more important than trip money.

Absolutely, Toby... football is fun, but must be kept in perspective.

Congrats to Trinity and UMHB.  Good Luck in the playoffs!  Too bad that another Texas team couldn't also be in the playoffs.  There were seven teams with two losses that made the playoffs and one with three losses.  I guess they could have still been conference champs with those losses and had an automatic bid.  I think HSU should have been included but of course I am prejudiced! Too bad that only one team will be left after the first round of playoffs to represent our state in the playoffs.

kickhoe

As much as this pains me, being an HSU grad that bleeds purple and gold...Congrats to UMHB!!!!  Y'all deserve the conference title and trip to the playoffs.  My hope is that in a few weeks I can watch the rematch of Linfield and UMHB on ESPN.....keep it up guys and keep it rolling!!!!

billybaroo

I have a feeling that whoever wins the UMHB Trinity game will go to the Semi-Finals. Linfield is the defending national champ but that is a tough bracket St. Johns is no push over for sure and with 4 other no loss teams that makes for a hard row to hoe. But Linfield is very talented I would love to see a UMHB Linfield rematch too bad it wont be in Salem if it happens but here's too a great post season. Hopefully Freddie will show up for the Offense and Kubiak will show up for the Defense like they have been all year they sure can carry a team if they are playing well not to take anything away from any other players they are a great team. Go CRU

That is my GUESS.  I am sure Pat will be along later today to correct me if necessary   ;D

I don't know the seeds. I will try to chase them down tomorrow. We've had success getting them in previous years.

Great play by all the teams in the ASC this year. The ASC is getting more competitive every year. I am glad that UMHB won the conference title. UMHB was the best team in the ASC, therefore deserved the ASC Title.  All teams played their best. Good luck to everyone next year. As for now...... Good luck to the CRU.... Start the year in Salem, end the year in Salem. Good Luck to all, have a great offseason. GO CRU!  Get ready for Trinity, what about a "BLACK FLAG DEFENSE".  Sorry HSU.  "UMHB Conference Champs 2005" YYYEEEEAAAAHHH!!!!!

Just a couple of thoughts before I call it a night.

1) MHB8904  -  First things first.  Your daughter is on my prayer list.  Please let us know how she is doing !!

2) A Crazy year in the ASC.
  a)  Howard Payne rises up to beat UMHB and finishes tied for second.  They also end up with a higher QOWI than HSU.
  b) TLU comes back from injury to their starting QB and does the same to HSU.
  c)  HSU loses 1st and 2nd string QB's to injury.  Tough break for an excellent team.
  d)  ETBU holds on over TLU to finish fourth
  e)  LC finishes fifth on the basis of one of the top offenses in the nation and the most prolific offense in the ASC.
   f)  McMurry rebounds from 1-8 in 2004 to 4-5 in 2005.  (Proud for you Ralph)
   g)  SR improves to 3-7 and would have been better except for my Roos.  ;)
   h)  My Roos slip from 3-7 to tie MC for the cellar.  Maybe Coach Joseph can turn it around next year.  I know he is good.
    i)  Austin College says goodbye to the conference it helped hold together for many years to go to the SCAC.  I, for one, hope this change can fuel a turnaround in their fortunes.

3) Interesting to look at QOWI for all ASC conference teams:

Rank       School                      QOWI    Records     Place

4) Interesting to look at QOWI for all SCAC conference teams:

From an AC sports email:

Austin College Victorious Against No. 23 Trinity   :)

ATLANTA – The Austin College volleyball team won its NCAA South Region opener against No. 23 Trinity on Friday, winning 20-30, 30-21, 30-26, 30-27 on the campus of Emory University.  The win marks the first time that Coach Ed Garza has beaten Trinity and moves the 'Roos into the second round, where they will square off against the top ranked team in the country in Emory tonight at 6 p.m.

Diana Gonzalez led the 'Roos with 18 kills and two blocks, while Kaitlin Listol and Jessica Rose each had 12 kills.  Rose also led the 'Roos with 19 digs in the match and Veronica Stephens had 51 assists.

Saturday, Nov. 12 - Championship   :(
#1 Emory University (32-5) d. #2 Austin College (34-3)    27-30, 30-21, 30-28, 30-25

Emory Head Coach Jenny McDowell:

On the match tonight:
"Austin is an awesome team. They are deceptively good and fundamentally sound.  We knew we would have a fight on our hands tonight, but our team stepped up and played well tonight."

Austin Head Coach Ed Garza:

On the match against Emory:
"Emory is a great team. We had our hands full tonight. My hat's off to Jenny [McDowell.] We tried to stop their outside hitters and in the first game we did a good job of getting the ball to the middle. This is such a great sport and I enjoy coaching win or lose. I am very proud of this team. This is the first time we have ever finished in the top 16.

Who played well for the Kangaroos:
"Freshman outside hitter Jessica Rose had a great match hitting the ball. Senior Diana Gonzalez led the team as she has all season with good blocking and attacks. Our setter Veronica Stephens had a great match and she gets to balls that others couldn't. I'm very excited because we have all of our starters back except Gonzalez."

Great Volleyball Season Roos !!
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

CruGuy

word from the UMHB locker room is that they win against Trinity and they will have the second game on their feild, they're number 3 behind Trinity and Thiel, and in front of everyone else in the south region...

Bill McCabe

CruKid, Hope that is right.  Do you know where they got that information?

To emphasize the importance in scheduling and winning D3 in-region games, had LC defeated Rhodes, they would have risen from the QOWI  0.333-0.499 group to the 0.500-0.666 group and every game against LC would have been worth 2 more points and increased the "QOWI" numerator by 2 points.  I have revised the QOWI's from roocru's table.

Rank       School                      QOWI    Records     Place   Revised QOWI
20     Mary Hardin-Baylor     10.375  7-1, 8-1*          1        10.625
40      Howard Payne              9.667   7-2, 7-3*           2       9.889
43     Hardin-Simmons     9.556     7-2, 8-2*           2           9.778
65     East Texas Baptist     8.778     6-3, 6-4            4       9.000
88      Texas Lutheran     8.000     5-5, 5-5             5          8.200
118    McMurry                 7.333    4-5, 5-5*            6            7.556
"137"    Louisiana College     6.889     4-4, 5-4            7        7.778
171    Sul Ross State              5.778     2-7, 3-7            8    6.000
194     Austin                   5.000     1-9, 1-9            9            5.200
194    Mississippi College    5.000    1-8, 1-8              9       5.222

I am not trying to pick on LC, and it is tough for us to find "South" in-region games, especially when the West Region is closer.  Huntingdon and LaGrange will help us, especially for LC and MC.  AC will likely keep at least 3-4 ASC teams on their schedule as well.

*UMHB, HSU and McMurry had wins against West Region teams.  HPU had a loss against a West Region team and of course the result is not used in the QOWI.

Bill McCabe

Ralph, Have you heard anything about non-conference games next year for the ASC?
