Ron, how are Trinity's receivers this year.  Kelner had a great game last year against UMHB.  I watched him play at Churchill for 3 years and his success has not surprised me.

minni

In reference to the HSU Schedule they have Linfield and UW-Stevens Point In Abilene next year.

Gee, Bill, I think you are asking me to do a scouting report for UMHB  ;D

Kelner is the best of a solid group.  There are no Urbans or Hunts on this year's team but it is an above-average receiver corps.

ASC Pick'em contest for first round of the playoffs is up!

Bill McCabe

minni, even without Brett Elliott, that should be a very interesting game.  I hope its 99 degrees at kickoff.  Little Texas welcome! :)

If MHB makes a long run in the playoffs (and I think they will), HSU's loss to TLU the last week of the season should improve the ASC's chances of placing 2 teams in the playoffs in future years.  MHB and HSU lost to 2 different teams in the ASC and with MHB advancing far in the playoffs, the strength of the conference would be comfirmed.
MHB and HSU are definitely still the class of the conference but the remaining teams in the conference have greatly improved over the last couple of years.  Hopefully the loss of AC from the conference will allow the ASC schools to play quality out of conference schools that will further establish the strength of the conference (if we can get schools to travel to the fine state of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi for a good old fashion whoppin).

Bill McCabe

proudmcmdad, I'm with you, but it didn't seem to help this year.  As the conference gets stronger, it will become more difficult to go undefeated or finish with one loss.  I am absolutely convinced that HSU would match up very well with the 3 Pool Cs in the east.

Linfield doesn't seem to have a problem coming to Texas and Christopher Newport is set to play UMHB.   I assume TLU will continue to play Trinity.

mcmfan

It will be interesting to see how the conference develops.  I suspect UMHB could become dominant the way Trinity is in the SCAC, since it is located in the middle of the I35 corridor -- excellent for recruiting -- with no other ASC schools nearby.  HSU may have trouble keeping up, since its core recruiting area, West Texas, is not demographically growing like the I35 corridor.  Moreover, it shares that recruiting area with two other local schools, McM and HPU.  I think UMHB has a clear recruiting advantage over the rest of the ASC in all its sports; note it's in everyone's rear view mirror  or pulling ahead in more sports than just football.
Alacumba!

mcmfan,  UMHB is in an ideal location.  There are lots of good football players from San Antonio to Waco.  The UMHB coaches do an excellent job recruiting and the school has lots to offer.  Winning also helps.  I don't see a great fall off for HSU.  TLU and ETBU are also in fertile recruiting areas.

dballa

Actually if you look at HPU's roster the past few years they don't have that many players from west TX.  They go to north and east TX a lot.  There are a lot of players from the Houston area.  With the new coaching staff, some from out of state, the recruiting area for them will be much wider.  You never know you just might see some Kansas boys playing TX football at HPU :)

Doesn't ETBU play Trinity?

I believe they have a 2 year agreement.  No word on who the other game is going to be for etbu.

Bill McCabe

dballa,  I think I counted 10 seniors on HPU's roster.  They should have a good foundation for next year.  They seemed to have a lot of freshmen and sophomores.  A good recruiting class might push them up another notch.

Bill McCabe

Ron, if you would be so kind, a scouting report would be most appreciated!

Has anyone heard of the progress of the Concordia move?

I understand that Round Rock is one location under consideration.  Another is a large land grant in Giddings, 40 miles east.

I am not sure if I need to add football if I am in Round Rock, but the large tract of land and a different feel to Giddings, which will be an Austin suburb in 2025, like Sherman is a  Dallas suburb, might make the addition of football quite attractive to the campus environment...

A 10th ASC football school and some geographic competition...

Also, I think that athletes may consider anything in a 400 mile radius if they can play, and D3football.com helps shorten the distance! :)

Ralph:

The latest news on Concordia's relocation is that the possibilities have been narrowed down to three: two in Round Rock, north of Austin, and one located on east Hwy 290, 10 miles east of the present campus.

Apparently Giddings, despite its Wendish-Missouri Synod heritage, is now out of the running, though a "branch campus" may be in the offing for that venue.

I've heard nothing about adding football.

For future updates, check into the Concordia Web-site: www.concordia.edu.

P.S. The outfit assisting in the sale of the existing campus and evaluating possible new sites is the Staubach -- as in Roger -- Company.
