Toby,

My recent move to Central Louisiana will allow me to make a few UMHB games each season. And when the Purple CRUsh invade Pineville to take on LC, I plan on hosting a little tailgate action.

I hope to see you on one of my trips to Belton.

I'm planning on making the trip to belton for the UWW, HSU, and HPU (homecoming) games.  This year is my classes first official homecoming year, so i figure I ought to make it, I had a few friends I graduated with.

Where in LA are ya'll living?

Central LA... we live in Pineville. My office is in Alexandria.

I plan on being at Homecoming. I have not worked my schedule concerning any other games, but hope to make a couple more.

I also want to congratulate the preseason all americans from the ASC.  4 selections out of 25 spots on the first team is quite impressive.  Can't wait for the season to get here.

Sul Ross State just got a little closer to the rest of the ASC and the world! ;)

Wooh Hoo! So did El Paso, NM, Arizona, and LA.   ;D

And does this mean people will go max spd +10?

Wow!  I may get to test that out this year.   Just noticed that the change is for 521 miles of road.  I usually make a trip to Odessa each year and I 20 looked to be one of the highways included.  I bet that hurts the ol' gas mileage though.

Z, I saw that the change involved 10 Texas counties and 521 miles of road on I-20 and I-10.  I do not have a map with me, but I think that we should count the counties east of El Paso down I-10 until we get to the I-20 split.  I will bet that the 80 MPH limit starts west of Monahans on I-20 and also involves about 300 miles of I-10.  I think that helps in traveling to and from UMHB, TLU, CUA, Schreiner and maybe HPU.

Ok Alpine is 470.4 miles miles from my house (Yahoo maps) and it looks like I'll spend from Abilene to Odessa on I-20 (not sure if that will be the 80 mph area or not then down 385 and a little ways on I-10 which I may get lucky on.  I believe that HSU plays Sul Ross at home this year so I won't have to mke that trip until next year.

I bet that, if you calculate, you will save less than half an hour. ;D

My guess is that these are the counties involved.

I-10:  El Paso, Hudspeth, Culberson, Jeff Davis, Reeves, Pecos, Crockett and Sutton which seems to be about 400 miles.  Nearly 190 miles of I-10 seems to be impacted for SRSU's sake.  This is the real benefit for the southern ASC-West schools, and cutting 30 minutes off the trip to Schreiner, CUA, TLU and maybe UMHB and Brownwood would help.

I-20:  Reeves and Ward.  I am guessing that this accounts for 83 miles (that portion west of Monahans.  One may turn off to go to Sul Ross  at Monahans and miss the I-20 upgrade.  Or, you may go to Pecos and then take the scenic State Hwy 17 to Fort Davis and then scenic 118 to Alpine...no real time gain.  If they include the portion of I-20 west of Odessa (Ector County) , then you get another 20 miles of 80 MPH driving.

I know when I am driving 4.5 hours is lots easier than 5 hours, especially in west Texas. :)

Ralph,

I drive I-20 probably 5 times a week, and traffic moves 80+ through Abilene... isn't this really another 20 mile @ 90 MPH. that's 5 minutes off of the drive  :)

The 80mph on I 10 starts just west of Kerrville.
