Ralph the Killeen Daily Herald http://www.kdhnews.com usually has better UMHB content.  The temple paper and the KDH are owned by the same people, and report better on the other community than the community paper.  Also the TDT abbreviates much of their web content.  KDH news is always the full monty.

Thanks for posting this, Ron.  I had wondered when it was coming out.

A new article has been posted by the Temple Daily Telegram  ... interesting quotes from the article...

"It's better to be picked to win it than it is to be picked to lose it," .... "But still, it's just a poll.
UMHB coach Pete Fredenburg

Cowboys senior quarterback Jordan Neal, who received a medical redshirt after missing all but part of one game last year with a knee injury, was voted as the top offensive player (Ralph this one somewhat explains why I prefer the Killeen paper... Hey paper, get your facts right!)

players officially report to campus Aug. 14. The Crusaders will hold their first practice Aug. 15

mhb8904 - Picky, Picky. So he didn't have a knee injury, he broke his collarbone. I didn't see the link for the superior coverage that the KDH gave this story. Could it be because they didn't carry it? The Temple Daily Telegram beat writer for UMHB does an excellent job on coverage. Don't know what the Temple paper did to put a burr under your saddle, but week in and week out they do an excellent job of covering UMHB activities.

Don't misunderstand me.  I read the TDT onlines regularly.  I think the beat writer does a fine job.  My problem is with the online edition in general.  The abbreviated stories irritate me.  Over the past year I'd even say the coverage has improved, but since I was a kid, and I lived in the Killeen - Belton - Temple area from 1975 - 2000, and then commuted daily to the area from 2002-2004 the KDH has covered UMHB better than the TDT.  The TDT has not always covered UMHB stories, or at least not completely.

As far as the injury report on J Neal goes and me being too picky.  Maybe so, Jordan is a friend and classmate, but that aside Jordan breaking his collar bone against LC last season was one of, if not the biggest stories of the season last year regarding HSU.  A writer shouldn't miss that detail.

Interesting article.  Naturally there are great players on every team in the conference.  But only one is selected at each of the spots.  I think it creates great motivation for both the athletes that are not selected as well as the ones that are.  The pressure is on for the ones that get the nod.  For the ones that think they should have been selected like Vince Young last year -- running and throwing all over USC then striking that Heisman pose after the win.  That must have made him feel great!  Some of the ones that didn't get it may get their redemption in due time.

Ramonce Taylor, who was charged with possession of four pounds of marijuana in May after leading the national champion Texas Longhorns in all-purpose yardage last season, is transferring. A source close to Taylor said he'll probably transfer to an NAIA school -- most likely Texas College in Tyler.

Maybe UMHB should jump on this guy, he is from Belton.

No kidding.  He would be on a lot better football team in Belton.  I wonder if he even thought about UMHB?

I have lived in Temple since the early 90's and have followed UMHB sports for years. The Telegram covers UMHB very well. Today's story was frontpage with a picture of Coach Fred in the Temple paper and the online story was the same as the print edition. I am still trying to find the story in the Killeen paper. You are correct, the reporter should have done just a little research as I did and determined the correct injury to Neal. I look forward to seeing him back on the field this year, I know it was a blow to the Cowboys when he went down last year.

By the way some of you might not be aware that the basketball arena at UMHB is the Frank & Sue Mayborn Campus Center. Frank Mayborn (deceased) being the past owner and Sue Mayborn the current owner of the Temple & Killeen papers as well as the NBC TV station in Waco/Temple. All three Mayborn owned media outlets do a good job of covering UMHB.

Get him and you have a national championship.  There would be no debate on the player of the year.  It is amazing how someone could mess up the opportuinity he had in front of him.  If I was the coaching staff of UMHB, I would call, it would not hurt anything.

Hey, now....

Seeing RT in purple and gold wouldn't be half bad--but the other purple and gold in the ASC is what I had in mind!  :)

Seriously--as a life-long UT fan, I hope he can get his act together.  IMO, he's only got one strike left after the academic issues and the off-the-field stuff.  DIII might be an option, but I'd think the potential character questions might even scare away non-scholarship coaches and programs.  Where ever he ends up, I hope that it works out.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

That would bring some excitment to ASC, if Keeling got RT he would get his national championship.  He does great with good talent, but if he got great talent like this it would be something.
