HSUpt

The scrimmage thursday went well.  The passing game looked great.  Neal made great decisions and spreaded the ball around well.  The running game was consistently getting 3 to 5 yards per play.  New Mexico Military basically ran a triple option pretty much the entire time.  For the one and a half hours i was there they only threw the ball twice.  Neither NMM nor HSU had a chance at catching those passes so it's probably safe to say our secondary wasn't really tested.  I take that back, one pass attempt went for a first down, but it would have been picked off had our corner not fallen down while breaking on the ball.  the defense gave up outside containment a few times against the run but looked good for the most part.  HSU really has some size on defense this year, especially with daniels towering over the middle at MLB.  All and all HSU did great.  It was great to get to see some football...finally.

I am going to the AC vs. TLU game this coming Saturday.  Anyone else making the trip?

I went to the HPU scrimmage against Trinity (TX) on Saturday.  The Yellowjackets started a little slow in the individual and 7 on 7 series.  During the live quarter they did well.  The offense moved the ball well both running and passing the ball.  Adam Johnson only played about half of the live quarter and then the backup took over.  The defense looked good.  Trinity first posession of the live quarter was ended with an interception by HPU.  The live quarter scrimmage ended with each team having scored one TD.

Well the real thing starts this coming Saturday.  Good luck to all.

heard a RUMOR about a linebacker and a knee at the HSU scrimmage, any truth to it from people at the game?

Josh Bowerman

I sure hope not, minni.

I'd like just one season--just one--where HSU doesn't suffer some sort of serious injury to one or more player(s) who are in the opening day starting lineup.  God knows we haven't had one in quite some time....

Josh,  It is rare for any team to go through a season without a serious injury to a starter.  Depth is critical for any team to do well.

True, Bill.

It just seems that each of the last three or four years HSU has been decimated by injuries to key personnel.  I'd really like to see what they could accomplish without missing significant numbers of guys due to the injury bug.

I absolutely agree from Maskosky to Neal to Q. Jones.  I would like a season with a relatively low amount of injuries and just see what HSU could really do and see how successful they could actually be.

I was at the scrimmage and did notice that two starters were not participating.  The one that you heard the rumor and and one in the secondary.  It must not be too bad because I did not notice any limping or anything like that.  Hopefully just a minor strain.

The HSU game preview came out today.  Too bad my son didn't crack the two deep.  He is very dissapointed.  But you never know -- it is a long season.

Oh yes both players mentioned in my last post are not on the two deep for the first game.  With a bye week after this week they may be resting them.
