Now let me get this straight, Ron. Are you, above, damning TLU with faint praise ... or praising them with faint damns?  ;D

Warren, I think if you go back and look at the body of my work that I have generally shown appreciation for the work that Mueller and TLU have done.  It's only this particular poster that I take issue with.

I know (and appreciate) that. I also know you were directly referring to the "Whacker" poster ....  ;)

Very unusual week when Trinity and UMHB are coming off of a loss!

What's the word on Sul Ross?

Zmotion10 out on 2

Looks like they took it on the chin to Cisco and then got things together to beat SAGU.

Here is the SAGU write up.

Pregame notes on the HSU/Linfield game are up on the HSU website.  Looks like one of the injured defensive starters from last season is back on the two-deep.

Good information on Linfield there, too.

I'll be at both the McMurry-Louisiana College and Linfield-Hardin Simmons games this weekend shooting images from the games.  If any parents or players are interested is obtaining shots of the game, please check the main page of this site and click on the "Photo Galleries" link on Monday or Tuesday of next week--the images should be ready to go.

If anyone has a special request, please don't hesitate to contact me offiline prior to the game, and I'll do my best to accommodate it.  Feel free to stop by and say "hi", as well.  It was nice to meet roocru and Gray Fox this past weekend at the Austin College-McMurry game.

Images from that game should be available under the Photo Galleries link shortly, so please check them out!

First, yes Jim WACKER did pass away from Cancer which brings me to the poster that was crass enough to make a refererence to pornography in the same post as the late Jim Wacker.  I feel among a conference of Christian colleges (even if in name only) that was uncalled for a poor witness to the Christian faith for others on here who may not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  I admit I mispelled Coach Wacker's name, but a simple" By the way friend, it is spelled Wacker." would have sufficed.  I never directly impugned anyone's personal integrity so that someone would have to stoop to such a low level to attack someone they do not know is rude.

TLU had four years of a head coach who had awesome talent but did not want to do the hard things to make them a championship team.  Coach Mueller is doing what Coach Fred and Coach Keeling have been doing for years.  I wish we would have had coaches like that when we brought our program back in 1998.  We didn't but we do now.  Coach Mueller coached TLU AD Bill MIller and current Texas High School Football Coaches Association Executive Director D.W. Rutledge who also led Judson High to five Texas UIL 5-A football titles.  TLU has had a history of great athletic programs.  To see the talent available not being used and not being respected was a hard pill to swallow.

By the way Mr. Boerger, this is the best start TLU has had since 1976 when they did win a national championship but I am sure Coach Wacker did not assume that at the beginning of the season he would end up there either but he believed deep in his heart that it could happen.  Coach Mueller is probably the same way.  Any given team can beat any other team on any given day.  All these excuses about this injured player and a scout QB is BS.  As a coach we train ALL our guys with the same plays and the same discipline.  The only difference in a scout QB is that he is a little green but his team's work ethic and execution style is still there.  TLU was the better team than TU and the scoreboard is the only thing that means anything at the end of the game.  The stats only tell you where you can improve and where you are strong.  If stats meant that much the team with the better TOP and Net Rushing Yards, YAC , etc would ALWAYS win the game.

I am very excited that there is more than two teams in the ASC that will make this season much more interesting than seasons past.  D3 football is the purest form of college football without the financial influence of the other two NCAA divisions.  D3 TRULY has scholar-athletes whereas, D-I and D-II may have a few but not as many as they would like you to think they have.  ALL the schools in the ASC are of TOP academic quality and character.  So .......ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!!  GO DAWGS!!!!!  I apologize if I offended anyone as it was not intentional.

tlugrad 2000:

Please don't come down with the terminal fantods.

I suspect we all knew you had made a simple error in your spelling of Jim Wacker's name (and there's no harm there; some of us have made even worse gaffes, here in these rooms or in front of our wives, family, and friends).

Neither my response nor that from Josh Bowerman were a personal put-down or insult -- and if I have truly offended you, even though I did not intend to do so, please accept my apologies. In Pat's rooms, there is much give and take, and we've learned, often by hard lessons, that those who give must also be willing to take.

TLU still has a place in my heart. I taught there back in the Dark Ages, and I still have some friends amongst the retired faculty and administrators.

Warren, I'm also from SA, still living here.  Where did you go to high school?

minni

blah blah blah blah.....one week at a time tlugrad.....i dont care how good you think the bulldogs are, they can, still, and mostly likely will be beat this year.  So be proud of you team and ride the high horse but believe that you have two big teams in this conference still to play.

GO COWBOYS!!!!!

Bill McCabe

minni, the 23rd will give us all a real indication of how good TLU is this season.  I think UMHB will have their hands full.

I'm worried about this week's game.  Not trying to get ahead of myself!  ;)

While I grew up on Donaldson Avenue, one block from Thomas Jefferson High School, I went to Concordia in Austin. Said prep school no longer exists; it has evolved into Concordia University.

I think something that was pointed out earlier, but was lost in the posting shuffle, was how much difference it makes when a team has already played a game. CNU already had one under their belt, UMHB did not. For years TLU played Trinity for an opener when Trinity had already played a game against Austin College. This is the first year the TLU/Trinity game saw both teams come in with a game under their belt. What will be interesting is how both the Bulldogs and Crusaders play this coming weekend...
