Just a little history...someone on Mr. Wacker's staff sent LINFIELD questionable game films and TLU had four guys that ran the 'Cats dizzy out of an option and sent them spinning back to Oregon.

Never cared much to play a Texas team down there. It can be brutal.

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by "questionable"? And was this the reason TLC (as it was then) wiped out Linfield 32 years ago? (Evidently, there are some long memories up there in Oregon ....  ;))

Warren, I have the scoop on that film exchange.  My brother and future sister-in-law went to the Texas Lutheran-McMurry game in Seguin.  TLU only beat McMurry 28-0 that year, and so there must have been some ringers sitting on the sideline.

My future sister-in-law's cousin's brother-in-law (once removed and twice rejected  :D ) was the assistant coach who must have sent the McMurry game film.  Linfield must have seen how much trouble that McMurry gave them and got overconfident! ;)

Thanks, Ralph, for clearing that up [?]. Now the big question: are you, in fact, claiming that there are some less-than-savory figures in the Turner family tree?   :o

Kindly advise soonest ....

[And just what happened to the "twice-rejected" fellow? The world needs to know.]

To comprehend what non-scholarship college football was like then, here was McMurry's 1974 season, 6 wins and 4 losses.

Baptist Christian (Shreveport, LA) -- 55-0 (Now Louisiana Baptist U -non-accredited)
Ouachita Baptist (AR) -- 7-20 now D2
Panhandle St (OK) -- 7-0  now D-2
Western New Mexico -- 7-20  now D-2
Monticello AR -- 20-10 now D2
Trinity -- 14-17
Millsaps -- 24-14
Tex Lutheran -- 0-28 (Was NAIA Div II)
Austin College -- 27-14
Trinity -- 16-7

My sister-in-law advises that that was the guy that her cousin had the kids by! ;D

They are no longer married and she thinks that he has had three wives. :o :-\

Warren Thompson

Wasn't it bizarre back then when some now-D3 venues played each other twice in a season?

Warren Thompson

Three wives? Mercy! Most of us find that one wife is more than sufficient.  :P

(And our wives are certainly not eager to have more than one husband .... )

Wow, Ralph....  seems ASC infighting has turned it up a notch...  NAIA, DII days are history...

OK but as I tell my students, "history is in a constant state of flux." (And, for better or worse, it is commonly written by the winners.)

I am finally able to really get behind my team and be confident for once.  SInce 1999 with the exception of our 7-2 season 2 seasons ago, there has not been much to brag about with TLU football.  Baseball has always been our claim to fame.  Any good program takes time to build and Mueller is doing that and doing it well.  HSU and UMHB will be true tale of how good or how bad TLU really is this season.  Only time will tell.

Golly...got Walter and Ralph a talkin' there on game week.

OLDCHOCTAWCOACH

Should be a great game between TLU and MC this weekend.  Too bad the MC QB got hurt, they were going to make a legitimate run for the ASC title this year.  With 17 transfers on the MC roster, they are going to be tough.  Go chocs!

Desertcat1--

Given your exposure to the Linfield program, I was hoping that you could provide us in the ASC a little more insight into how the Wildcats are shaping up this season.

I know that in the past, they've thrown the ball quite a bit on offense.  With Coach Smith, is that still the predominant philosophy or are they becoming a more balanced attack?

Who are some of the standout players on both sides of the ball and what types of basic defensive schemes do the Wildcats throw out at opponents?

Since we rarely get to see teams from outside our basic geographic region/conference--save a Wisconsin team occaisionally--I think that your thoughts and insights will help me know what to look for when photographing the game Saturday and also give the folks in attendance a little better understanding of what's going on down on the field.
