Ralph,  I don't trust the committee.  It would be better for UMHB to beat HSU.  What if HSU has 1 loss, what are your thoughts?
I think that HSU gets a Pool C bid!

Bill McCabe

Ralph,  In your mind, who are the biggest threats to HSU and UMHB.

Ralph Turner

My South Region Rankings, using NCAA Criteria, and somewhat modified by where I think that they will end up, as of today are:

1) HSU  (Pool A)
2) Wesley (Pool B)
3) Bridgewater (Pool A)
4) CNU  (Pool A)
5) UMHB  (Pool C)
6) Trinity  (Pool A)
7) Ursinus, yep, undefeated 2-0 and leading the Centennial, so someone will get a Pool A bid.
8 ) DPU (Pool C) or Huntingdon (A Pool B) (if they beat Trinity!!!)

Man I hope you're correct.  Nostradamus.  (had to slaughter that spelling, sorry.)

To all you BOZO's out there who care a little too much.

Keep the bad Karma coming!!!!

Well, since you've invaded OUR board (meaning the ASC) shooting off at the mouth, I think the negative karma is justified.  And yeah, I docked you one.

And for the record, I'm a HSU fan--which generally means that I like it when UMHB gets beat.  I just don't like people that A) haven't accomplished anything and thump their chest and B) can't seem remember how to act like they've ever "been there before", as Joe Pa would say.

How 'bout just offering congratulations on an exciting game that was made possible because two schools were willing to travel outside of their immediate geographic area?  That's the classy way to go about things--if you absolutely MUST continue talking about a game that was played a month (sic) ago.

And by the way, Rowan is, IMO, the most consistently overrated team in the country.  Over the last five years, the Profs have been outscored 115-45 in elimination playoff games (i.e. the game they lost to end their season), including being outscored 100-31 by non-East Region playoff opponents over that same time period.

I feel confident that which ever region's semifinalist matches up against the East--Rowan or not--that the East will be the losing squad at the end of the day.  Definitively.

So get off the Rowan bandwagon.  That dog doesn't hunt here.

Thanks Ralph for giving a picture for how things may play out depending on who wins what.

And i agree with Josh.  I'm always rooting for whoever plays UMHB.  Not out of hate or anything....well maybe a little.  :)  Hopefully the visiting team winning steak continues this season.

Pat Coleman

I'd buy your cumulative math, except for that pesky little national semifinal in 2005. That's the game where Rowan, without its All-American quarterback, lost at Mount Union 19-7.

Since that's the game that's most recent, it gets a lot of weight.

Josh Bowerman

I'll concede that point, but would at the same time point out that Mt. Union didn't exactly stomp through any of their final three games last season.

Of course, they won all three, and that's all that matters at the end of the day.   :)

I've often heard that many states up north (ohio & wisconsin for example) don't have DII football which is one reason their DIII football teams have so much size and always seem to be in middle of the path to the stagg bowl.  Any truth to this?  Just curious.

WLCALUM83

UW-Parkside (Kenosha, WI) is the only NCAA Div II school in the state. UW-Parkside does not have a football team. Looks like their "most major" fall sport appears to be soccer (the men's soccer team is off to a 7-1 start this year--maybe the feeling is they either don't need football or can't justify fielding a team for cost reasons (I also heard from a reliable source that cost reasons were the main reason Calvin of Michigan doesn't field a football team, either).

Sorry for the Michigan tangent--just putting my .02 in.

Ohio has plenty of schools per capita. (2005 Census estimate for Ohio, 11,464,000)

WLCALUM83 is right about the WIAC and Wisconsin.

However, Ohio has plenty of teams.  Remember it is probably the number of scholarships for football that we are actually talking about.)

D1A   --  9
D1AA -    1 (Youngstown State and not counting non-scholarship Dayton)
D2  ----- 4
NAIA ---  4
Total     18 (Playing scholarship football)

D3 ------ 19 (And not counting Dayton)

And every kid playing D3 somewhere else is not playing for you.

Back in the 1960's Darrell Royal would sign 60-70 players to scholarships, because if he was sitting on your bench, he wasn't playing for A&M, Rice, SMU, TCU, OU, etc.

They should have just done what Trinity and Depauw(sp?) did and played out the game the next day.  No conference football game should ever be cancelled.

Amen to that.  If Trinity and Depauw could do it, then it should have been done for the other 2 teams as well.  HSU could really be hurt by this.  What a shame.  Why would this have to happen 2 years in a row to one of the teams in the conference?  Why can't the powers that be learn from past mistakes?

Olinemom, it is not unusual to have thunderstorms that hang around or come in waves for hours to occur all over the ASC.  We have had 1-2 hour delays in Abilene in the past 2-3 years.  The conference might consider a rule that the football games may start no later than 3 pm to maximize the time window.

Other than that, I know of nothing else that we can do.  (Playing on Sunday is not a favored option in this conference for many of the schools, especially 2 Baptist instiutions such as HSU and LaCollege.)
