Indians, you have forced me to do something i never thought i would do...argue on behalf of UMHB.

I've never known UMHB to have a huge problem defending speed.  After all, each time they beat us we brought plenty of speed to the table.

strength will always beat speed.  UMHB 42, McM 12.

Like Lee corso said that is why we play the game.  Saturday, we find out that the McM speed at the skill postions is too much for the young UMHB team...replay of Wesley game, and that the QB gets comfortable and steps into his own along with that young offense.  The McM defense stops the average UMHB Qb who is their weakness.  Mc is no joke either, and  while they come up short on Saturday, that will be thier only loss.  35-28 HSU.

I will stick to my regular quote Whatever Dude

I'll be at the game, hopefully foe the whole game.  If McM hangs in the first half, I'll stay, but I watched McM at home against LC and I don't think the McM OLine can stop the MHB D.  The QB has to be able to throw the ball to take advantage of the team speed.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

That average UMHB QB led them to the Stagg Bowl as a freshman.  He is a very capable QB.

Where McM was lacking was in the run game.  McM came intent on burning MHB with the long pass.  They ran the whole offense out of the shotgun.  If they had set up run, instead of trying to hit deep early who knows what would have happened.

And that is exactly my point...everyone knows we do not have a run offense to speak off.  We haven't have a excellent running back since... ?? Cory Hill in 2003-2004.  I am impressed with how well our lines held up today in the heat, especially with the time of possession!

I think McM could have a run game, maybe not a super one, but a serviceable one.  I thought it was pretty obvious that McM showed up ready to play, adreneline pumping.  They came out and were able to take advantage of MHB mistakes and jump to a 9 pt lead, but they didn't even try to keep MHB honest; they went for the deep pass.  That big 44 looked like he could carry the ball, or at least a defender or two, for a couple of yards.
of McM first 25 plays, 4 were runs, 21 were passes (or supposed to be) w/ 4 completions.  If your dropping 70%+ of your passes, you might as well run up the middle for no gain and try to create a little more space.

I was sitting next to MHB's VP for Athletics and he said to me, if they run fifty plays, they'll throw fifty times. He wasn't that far off.  Crousen has done a good job, but there has to be more in the hopper than throw, throw, throw... etc.

Well we made the trip to Alpine for the HPU and SRS game and I writing this from the hotel room.  Tough loss for HPU.  Normally when a team scorfes 56 points they win the game.  Turn overs and poor tackling were the undoing for HPU in this game.  SRS scored at least 17 pts off of HPU turnovers, if not more.  HPU hasn't played a complete game as a team yet.  It has been HPU defense that has kept them in their games through the first few games.  The offense showed up against SRS.  Offense and Defense haven't played their best together in a game yet.  HPU's Team and Staff will learn from this game.

I have no doubt that Coach Redwine and his staff are building a great program at HPU.  This is only their second season at HPU.  Expectations are high on the HPU team and Coaching Staff.  They will meet these expectations.

Every now and then one must eat a hearty helping of humble pie and this is one of those time for me.  After the thrashing TLU took at the hands of UMHB and then TLU barely won against a team who as of this writing is winless season to date,  it is clearly apparent to me that this is obvioulsy not TLU's year.  Now I am not throwing the season away because we still have to play HSU and HPU and UMHB has to play them also, but as the former Spurs announcer used to say in the final minute "It;s all academic now".  Regardless of who wins the ASC I want the ASC to take the NATIONAL championship and represent us well.

ok well please bring on the next up and coming team.  Oh wait we are playing a legit team this week.  HUGE week in the ASC.  I realize its only the third conference game for HSU, but who are we kidding this is the conference championship to this point, and it has been every single year for 4 years.

Ill be in the beautiful state of Arizona all this week and out in the middle of no where so hopefully the hotels ill be staying at will have internet.  If not GO Cowboys!!!!!

I didn't see the UMHB-McM game, but it sounds like McM is much better.  One sided games don't help anyone.  I'm glad UMHB won and by a competitive score.  Sounds like the same thing with HSU-MC.

Ralph Turner

I want to thank the SRSU SID for his game report!

The sports reporting from SRSU has improved dramatically in the last 2 years.

The old line about "the chain and its weakest link" has just seen the SRSU link get much stronger!  I know I speak for many ASC fans who comb the Internet to find game reports.  Thanks for staying up to 2:07 AM to get this game posted! :)

Ralph,

speaking od SID's, I don't know if you noticed, but when MHB took out Welch the QB they put in wasn't listed on the roster.  DR Baucom, UMHB President, asked who the QB was and VP of Athletics Shipp had to call the SID to find out.  Of course VP Shipp took the opportunity to hassle the SID.  IT was a pretty funny exchange.

In reference to: O Indians, where are you? Come out, come out, wherever you are.

MC was playing some football for 1 quarter.  They hogged the ball and just went down the field.  Kept the HSU offense off the field.   No really big plays just 4 or 5 yards here and there and the next thing you know 14-0 up on the #5 ranked Cowboys.  I was thinking wow this team is for real.  The offense looked very good.  Then the Cowboys came to life.  They dominated the rest of the game.  I'm not sure what happend to MC but something did.  Not sure if they got wore down as the Cowboys were shuffling players in and out all game (My boy got in!!!) Or if the Cowboys started playing tougher defense or made adjustments, etc.

I was most impressed by #2 and #5 of the MC defense.  #5 and our WR Carrillo had some words on the field (or it looked like they did)  #5 broke up a TD pass on us and showed he was a great player.  Of course Carrillo came back and scored a nice TD in front of #5 also.  But both of those guys played a good game.  #19 on offense was also a very good receiver.  He made a ton of great catches.

Ok well it is back to the same ole same ole.  HSU v. UMHB.  I'm excited to see this one unfold.  I think that the winner of this game will be the conference champ.  Not saying that any of the teams left on HSU's schedule are pushovers but in reality I think that these are probably the two best teams in the conference.  My wife and I will be making the trip to Belton.
