mhb8904, we stayed until the bitter end.  HSU played a great game and UMHB made a lot of mistakes, mostly due to HSU's play.  That was a long day.  The trip to Abilene later that year made up for it, however.

I am not saying that the quote from the UMHB game notes below has anything to do with this week's game.  Most of the games listed below even occurred last year.  However, this struck me as a very impressive stat and I think it sums up the UMHB defensive philosophy of 'stop the run and control the pass'.

"UMHB has played 14 games since taking on Willamette in the 2005 season opener. Willamette ran for 282 yards in the game and in the 14 games since, no opponent has rushed for more than 96 yards and the Crusaders have given up a total of 445 yards rushing in those 14 contests. That is an average of 31.8 yards per game on the ground."

In my mind that is one amazing stat.  :o
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

HSUpt

That is a pretty impressive stat.  HSU will have to get something going in the air to get the run going.  Watch out for Green (#7) at tailback.  He's made some nice runs the past few weeks.  He's another great option for the HSU offense to use to move the ball.

ha minni i was just thinking the same thing....anywhere good to eat at in belton befor the game?? I look forward to seeing an amazing game and i agree with some of the last posts this will def be strength against strength so we will see if the hsu defense that has shined at times and been real tough will show up

Schoepfs (pronounced Shuffs) Ole Time Pit Barbecue on Central Avenue if you like BBQ. Stay on Main till you get to D-town at the Courthouse, turn left on Central. Bout 5 blocks on your left. I recommend the big chop or the half chicken. There is a new small Italian place right across from Belton High School in a strip center. If you come into Temple on I-35 there is a Chilli's at Loop 363. Lots of places to eat, but not easy to get there with all the road work on the Loop.

Or the Stagecoach Inn in Salado for the more traditional Southern cuisine!

I like the hush puppies with butter.  ;)

Other good places to eat...

Crow's Burgers - amazing!
Mikeska's BBQ in Temple
DeVinci's Sandwich Shop - little known sub shop on ave M in Temple.  Makes a killer sub at a reasonable price.
Alvin Ord's - a sandwich shop on Main in the shopping ctr with the old walmart
Las Casa's Mexican Restaurant on The I 35 acces road at Ave. M is good.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

if you like Bar-b-que, then Schoepfs is the place to go!  Everytime we went to Belton, our son wanted to go there to eat.  Great choice.

We had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at Shoepf's.  No doubt it's good.

Belton's really grown the last few years. If chain restaurants are more your style:
Chilis
Texas Roadhouse
Applebees

If you like local places:
Jaliscos
French Quarter
Schoepf's

Man one could only hope that over 4,000 people show up for tomorrow. I will also be in attendance.

Rightlfully so that the conversation this week is concentrating on the HSU-MHB game, but this is probably the best weekend for matchups for everyone playing in the ASC this week.

HSU vs MHB - 2 best teams in the conference for the last 4-5 years with the winner the clear favorite to win the conference and advance in the D3 playoffs. Current pickems favorite is HSU 16-12 votes.  I think Neal is the difference in this one myself.

TLU vs HPU - The 2 next best teams (argueably, sic spelling).  Both improving programs over the last several years.  We will see who steps ups.  Pickems favorite is TLU 17-11, but I think HPU only due to home field advantage.  Still should be quite a game.

LC vs MC - The only 2 non-Texan teams in the conference playing for the non-Texas ASC championship.  New programs, new approaches, improving programs. MC is a clear favorite here with Pickems 21-7.  MC is greatly improved from last year although I am not convinced as others on the board, but I really like LC's new coach who should really upgrade the program over the next couple of years.

McM vs ETBU - My 2 biggest question marks in the conference.  I haven't got to see a McM game this year although I will be at homecoming next week.  McM has proved I think that they can win without Sellars at QB, but I just don't know how good they really are.  ETBU has way more talent than a zero win team should have this late in the season, played a good game last week.  Pickems has McM a favorite 16-12.

SRSU - Not wanting to leave them out.  Was that a big win or not last week.  Really glad to see SRSU fielding a very competitive team this year and hope that the program continues to improve.  Has to be hard to recruit to such an isolated locale.

Good luck to all this week.  It should be very interesting.

proudmcmdad,  Based on their game with Sul Ross, I have a hard time seeing HPU as the next best team to UMHB and HSU.  TLU has been a disappointment to me.  There were a lot of high expectations for TLU.  Nice analysis of this weekends games.

Bill McCabe

Looking ahead a little bit, MC should be 5-1 going into the UMHB game.

Ralph Turner

Okay Bill, please give me a quick and dirty #1 thru #9 (and homerism and boosterism is allowed!) ;)

As of today:   ::)

1.  HSU
2.  UMHB
3.  MC
4.  HP or TLU
6.  McM
7.  SR
8.  ETBU
9.  LC

Ralph Turner

That looks good!  Thanks! :)

(And there is no bulletin board material there either!  ;) )
