Neal is the best QB I've seen.  The defense pressured him, but he is one tough player.  The defensive backs did a very good job of covering and the front 6 put on a lot of pressure.  Except for the one long run by the running back, HSU couldn't move the ball on the ground.  I was impressed by Neal's toughness and he made some terrific throws.

gosh, being 800 miles away and trying to be a serious student makes it easy to forget about this board...in reading all the conversation leading up to this game, and then the brief summaries on this board and in the press release, it looks like the UMHB defense has proven itself...and what exactly has happened that Christopher Newport and TLU were considered nobody's ??? Are we talking about the same TLU team that's given Hardin Simmons all that trouble in recent years ?

UMHB and HSU should both be top ten teams and both be in the playoffs (in seperate brackets) and if the SCAC is 0-3 to the ASC then we should get their automatic bid as well and give it to either MC or TLU

Ron and Josh, It was nice meeting you at the game.  I'm glad I can now put a face to the name.  Glad you were able to make it to Belton.

Bill McCabe

Crukid,  UMHB and HSU if they finish with 1 loss each, will get bids.  We will not get the SCAC bid, no matter what.

Certainly the Scoreboard cannot be correct!
LC 31 MC 28?
Surely the "for real" Choctaws would not let that happen!
Nope. even the Miss. College web site reports the same score.
(minni -- Don't worry about eating crow. The MC folk probably have eaten all of it. By the way, they still are staying away from this site by the droves! )
Seriously, what a week in the ASC.
The feature game of UMHB vs HSU overshadows one other development:
ETBU finally winning one against a resurgent McM.
The pointy ball sure bounces funny.

Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

Bill McCabe

baddog,  yesterday was a wild day in the ASC.  I'm not sure how I would rank the conference, except UMHB is a solid 1 and HSU is a solid 2.  LC beating MC is a surprise, I guess.

Bill, it was nice meeting you and Ryan, too.  And Schoepf's BBQ was quite tasty after the game--I can see why it's a local favorite place to go.

No we did not chant underrated at Christopher Newport simply b/c it was an away game and no we didn't chant it at the Wesley game last year in the playoffs. But you know how it is. There's gotta be a lil trash talking b/w umhb and hsu, just don't want it to get out of hand.

Where will UMHB and HSU be ranked this week?  I hope it isn't one of those goofy deals where the team that wins a head to head meeting is ranked below.  I would love to see these 2 teams play again in the playoffs.

My hope is that someone is flown in to complete the "Texas Sub-brakcet"  I think that HSU is the top Pool C candidate, and if UWSP can finish with an in-region record of  >/= .500, then HSU will benefit in the QOWI.

Images from yesterday's HSU/UMHB game can now be viewed from the Photo Galleries link on the front page.

Check them out!

I checked out UW-SP (2-3 overall/0-3 in-region/0-2 in WIAC).  They have losses to 3 teams in last week's Top 7.

If they can turn their season around and win 4 of the last 5, then they finish with an in-region record of 4-4, which worth 12 points towards the Quality of Wins Index calculation.  If they go 3-5, then HSU gets 10 points.  If they go 2-6 or worse then HSU gets only 8 points towards the QOWI.

a lot of credit should go to UMHB. They are the most disiplined team i have seen in a long while. They force you to either beat them or beat yourselves and they did a good job of taking advantage of every little mistake HSU made. I personally believe HSU beat themselves yesterday but that is not to take away from the UMHB guys cuz that is what they do and do it well. Congrats to the crusaders and hopefully this can be a wake up call to the Cowboys to stay focused no matter what. By the way on the screen pass picked of by the defensive lineman-i was standing about 20 yards away right in front of him and it definitely hit the ground, but sometimes that is just the way things work and today things went UMHBs way and somehow even though it sux thats the beauty of football...ups and downs  :(...i hope they meet again late in the playoffs and HSU can minimalize their mistakes

Shephen,

Trash talk is one thing, chanting over rated is just classless.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

hsutd73, the UMHB defense had a lot to do with HSU's mistakes.  The difference in speed was evident early in the game.  HSU had no running game and the wide receiver screens that had hurt UMHB in previous games was stopped.  Freeman made several tackles on those screen passes.  The HSU defense did a great job on UMHB in the first half.  I think I heard 38 yards for the Cru at halftime.  Finally, the UMHB o-line just wore them down.
