Board is a little more quiet this week but I guess that is to be expected. Any predictions scores.

I say HSU 42 ETBU 7
UHMB 38 LC 10
TLU 28 HPU 24

and those are the only match ups I know about and I am not sure on the TLU HPU playing each other I just thought that I heard that so if not that is my prediction when they do play.
TLU beat HPU last week 28-23.  TLU vs. Sul Ross tomorrow in Seguin at noon.

Trinity 41, ETBU 0, game 1 of the season.  'nuff said.

ETBU has played much much better since that game, which happened to be the opener.  ETBU is better than their record, they just can't quit turning the ball over.  I've seen that game on film and it could have been a much more competitive game had ETBU held on to the ball.  Trinity would still have won, just not in 41-0 fashion.  So that wide of a margin is  not the true indicator of how ETBU will play HSU.  ETBU still won 41-24 over McMurry last week with 5 turnovers and a blocked punt, but I doubt that will get it even close to done against HSU.

Like I said earlier I think that UMHB can get a shutout so I will go with

UMHB 35 LC 0
HSU  34  ETBU 7

I think that ETBU may get some more points, but doubtful against a strong HSU.  We'll find out. Looking forward to a great week of football. As usual.

If UMHB comes into Pineville hitting on  cylinders, I think they rout LC. However, if they are sluggish the Wildcat's could make things interesting. New coach Dennis Dunn has them believing they can play with anybody. They do have some speed at the skill positions. However, that being said,  I don't really think they can handle the speed and pressure of the UMHB defense.

FWIW: LC is touting this game as the most significant in the history of the program. They are flaunting their 3-1 record (which is technically correct since the HSU game was canceled in the 2nd quarter with the Cowboys leading 28-12). The Cats are going to come out fired-up. I hope UMHB dominates from the opening kickoff and douses the flame with some Purple CRUsh.

LC is the kind of game that scares me to death.  Coming off a big, emotional win and travelling to their place could cause problems.  Plus LC had a big win last week.  I agree, if UMHB is hitting on all cylindars they should win.

I'm interested in TLU-SRU.  Which team is going to show up?

Well I am either a genius or just some idiot that saw that score somewhere and changed it to make it look like I know a little about football. I am pretty sure of the answer but I will let you decide. Oh and by the way the answer is the second one.

Is LC running that ridiculous spread offense with their quarterback nine yards behind the center?  Their head coach, Dennis Dunn, did that at Evangel Christian Academy, but I think his secret was actually the fact that he had an inordinate amount of talent.  I'm curious as to whether or not he's using what worked for him at the high school level.

Further -- Evangel was scholarship ball. (They were able to recruit players that could not have gone there otherwise.)
LC is not suppose to be. That will be a difference for the new coach, but his reputation will be a great tool, also.
UMHB had no emotional let-down after beating HSU last year -- at least not that I recall. My prediction on that one: UMHB 49 LC 7.
The HSU-ETBU game should go in HSU's favor, but will there be a Cowboys let-down and whiuch ETBU team will show up? My prediction/hope: HSU 49 ETBU 7. (Sound familiar?)
Man, guessing is easy. Getting them correct is tough!
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

Front page story .. McMurry has decided to drop the "Indians" moniker from its athletic teams.   They'll now just be referred to as McMurry.

Stupid NCAA.  I am glad McM is not going the NAIA route, tho.

TU,

I have only seen one LC game and they did indeed run what you described. In fact, the first few plays of the game they lined up the QB, center and I think one lineman on the ball and split the rest of the team out to the hash mark and beyond. It looked nuts and never worked very well. They used it a few more times during the game. I think UMHB's speed will render any of their crazy formations impotent.

The word in CenLa is that Dunn's reputation payed off and he recruited a good freshman class. Will it translate into success on the field? Only time will tell. I am looking for the CRU to romp on Saturday!

Ask HSU about crazy formations and UMHB.  Last week they lined up in a bizzare punt formation with three guys back (plus the punter) and the other seven were spaced way apart.  So of course UMHB shot the multiple gaps, the three "safeties" couldn't pick up everyone, the punt was partially blocked and the upback (Josh Kubiak) picked up the ball and ran it 50 yards to the HSU 5.

Needless to say that was the last time we saw that one trotted out.

I am looking forward to seeing that Purple CRUsh defensive pursuit in person. The last time I saw the CRU live and in person was against Willamette in last year's opener.

Ralph,,,, I'm sorry to see that the 'politically correct POLICE'... AKA NCAA have won the battle....

I have, and will continue to have the greatest respect for the "INDIANS" that gave us this great country....

My hat is off to the Trustees of McMurray. Someone has finally outsmarted the speech police at the NCAA. By not adopting a new nickname the Trustees have cleared the way for McMurray to remain the "Indians" (just not officially). Their fans can continue to yell "GO Indians!!!" from the stands. McMurray "Indians" sweats and Tees can continue to be worn and sold (off campus, of course). And life can go on in Abilene almost as if the PC Police from the NCAA didn't exist. Fight on McMurray ! You will always be "The Indians"!!!

What's up with ETBU?  Anyone seen them play?

They have plenty of talent.  Unfortunately the team (and student body, and community) are at odds with the head coach, Harris.  Most people I talk to really want to see him gone.

BTW, I work in Marshall, with lots of ETBU students and alums.
