Ralph,  Won't wins over HSU and TLU raise them in the rankings?
Bill I misunderstood your question.  ??? :)

Whose wins?

minni

I always enjoyed playing as the underdog and people second guessing us.  Never really did it much in college but, in high school always enjoyed getting the upset win.  This seems to be the position HSU is in more and more.  Oh well, Just go out every week and keep proving them wrong.  IMO, Its:

1. Wesley
2. UMHB
3. HSU
and then everyone else

I only have UMHB in front of HSU simply because they got to us this year.  I dont think it would happen again if and when they play.  The strength of the South is definately in Texas and the south region come playoff time will be represented by a Texas team.  I think these rankings are completely screwy (thats probably not a word) but what else would one expect from the commitee they call the NCAA!  Oh well thats why WE (D3) have a playoff system!!

There is a poll running in the South  forum concerning the UMHB vs UWW game. It is under "UWW vs Mary Hardin-Baylor" You vote for what you believe (hope) the outcome will be.

Go ASC and  UMHB fans, vote early and vote often!

Sorry Ralph, HSU wins over SR and TLU.

How close will UW-Whitewater/Mary Hardin-Baylor be?

crufootball

In my opion this game will come down to the 4th quarter where a mix of a long road trip for UW and the speed of the Crusaders will win the game.

I look foward to a good game by both teams but do feel UMHB has an edge with their awesome defense.  My pick:  UMHB by 3

My apologies to Mr. Allman for my comments earlier this year.  Week in and week out you seem to take to the next level.  I am extremly impressed by your writing abilities and am very happy to have you as the south region journalist.  Im getting good at this foot in mouth!!!

Ralph,  Won't wins over HSU and TLU raise them in the rankings?

Bill, if TLU finishes at least 5-5, then the HSU win over TLU would be worth 13 QOWI points.  If Sully wins 2 of the last 3, then a victory over a South Region 6-2 Sul Ross would be worth 14 points.

Bill, we get killed in the QOWI in the ASC because we are a closed system.  We end up with the same number of wins and losses.  Actually, we usually end up with lots of teams just below the next level on the QOWI.  We end up 4-5 instead of 5-4.  In other parts of the country, some conferences beat up on weaker teams and conferences and boost their in-region records.  They then play only 6-7 games.  A 3-0 non-conference record can boost a 2-5 conference record so every victory against this team is worth 12 or 13 points.

Let's face it ASC fans, we cannot  find enough D3 games without spending $40,000 to fly a team across the country.  Also, the conference games are "overnights" to Sully, MissColl and maybe LaCollege.

I don't know about everyone else but I have been very pleased with the overall lack of obnoxious posts by UMHB and UWW fans on both this board and the WIAC board.   At Tiger Field in Belton, fans are allowed on the field after the game.   :)

I propose that perhaps all the posters from both schools who are at the game should meet in the south end zone after the game to put faces and nicknames together and visit a little.  There may be some of that with some tailgating prior to the game, but this will give everyone a chance to meet at the same time for some fun and fellowship.   ;D ;D ;D  What do you guys think ???

Especially since my 5 hour drive from Corpus Christi that morning will get me there just about game time.   :(
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

I would like to know more about Sully's defensive front 4.  How have they performed this year?  How many sacks?  TFLs? Who is the leader of those guys?  That may be where the game is won or lost.

Same with HSU.

I play on that line, so I can shed about as much light on the situation as anyone.  First of all, we are a 3-4 defense, so only 3 linemen are out there at a time.  Technically only 3 start, but we have 5 that are considered our starters.  We have done a good job of getting pressure on the QB with just our down 3, so we rarely have brought LBs thus far.  We currently have 19.5 TFLs and 10 sacks as a group.  The breakdown of our "starting 5" is as follows:

1.)   Zach Gideon - #97 – 32 tackles – 9.5 TFLs – 4.5 sacks
2.)   Cedrick Thomas - #99 – 16 – 6.0 – 3.5
3.)   Brad Quigley - #98 – 13 – 2.0 – 1.5
4.)   Robert Wilson - #53 – 13 – 0 – 0
5.)   Chris Vela - #81 – 10 – 2.0 - .5

You can look further at those stats at:

http://www.americansouthwestconf.org/stats-football/srsu.htm#team.def

That will take you right to Sul Ross' defensive statistics.  I can't say that there really is a leader up front because we all play as a group and no one really speaks out more than another.  It's just a total team effort.  We all know how important it is for us to get pressure on Neal this weekend and firmly believe that the game will be won in the trenches and in the turnover battle.  Everyone is excited and ready to come play a great game against a great team.  Spirits couldn't be better on our team and Saturday can't get here soon enough.  Like I said earlier, don't be a stranger.  I'll be on the field with the #97 jersey on after the game so come say hello.  I'd like to meet some of the people I've been talking to.  Is it Saturday yet?

South Regional Rankings
1. Wesley 4-0 7-0
2. Christopher Newport 6-0 6-1
3. Mary Hardin-Baylor 6-1 6-1
4. Trinity (Texas) 6-1 6-1
5. Carnegie Mellon 6-0 7-0
6. Hardin-Simmons 5-1 5-1
7. Dickinson 6-1 6-1
8. Washington and Jefferson 5-1 6-1
9. Washington and Lee 6-1 6-1
10. Averett 5-2 5-2

Man, I definitely thought Hardin Simmons would be a little higher. I know that they have a loss, but I would still consider them #4 in front of Trinity and Carnegie Mellon.  I agree for the most part with the rest, well maybe not agree, but I can see why the top three are in the order they are.  Anybody else have any views on the rankings?  These rankings would also be greatly changed by a Sully win huh SR 97?

That's definitely what we're hoping for.  Should be a great day for football.  My mom just called to see how practice was going and told me the forcast is 72 for this Saturday in Abilene.  Sounds like a good day for a battle for a Pool C Bid.  The rankings are fine for me at present, but hopefully they change a great deal over these last 3 weeks.  :)

I ran the remaining schedules to see what the maximum QOWI UMHB and HSU or SRSU could achieve.

Here are the in-region records of the ASC teams, trying to assign the highest QOWI point total that the conference could achieve.

Team/ South Region Record/ QOWI point value for road/home win/ QOWI

UMHB  9-1  Assuiming they beat UW-W 14/15   11.500
UMHB  8-2  Assuming they lose to UW-W 6/7     10.700
HSU    8-1 Assuming they  beat SRSU   14/15     10.778
HSU    7-2 Assuming they lose to SRSU  6/7         9.889
SRSU   7-1 Assuming they beat HSU       14/15    10.875
SRSU   6-2 Assuming they lose to HSU     6/7       9.875
MC       5-5  (good wins over Millsaps and LaGrange)   12/13
TLU      5-5  (good wins over Austin College and Trinity  12/13
LC        4-5  (good wins over Millsaps and LaGrange)    10/11
McM      4-6  (good win over Austin College;  *)        10/11
ETBU     3-6  (Trinity loss didn't hurt)                      10/11
HPU      1-7                                                           8/9

* a win at Menlo would have pushed them to the 12/13   (All games with McMurry would have been worth 2 more points on the Index.

I don't know if I'll make it down to the field, but I'll be in the stands on the visitors side.  I'll be the guy wearing the  Logsdon Seminary shirt cheering for our QB.  Truly, I hope its a great game on Saturday.  I'll say the same thing here I'll say to JNeal in class tomorrow.  Good luck, Good game.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I just voted on D3.com that UMHB will win this weekend.

Go UMHB.  Kick some butt.
