nothing raises Qowi like a win over #2?  :D
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Hey,

My cousin is the Kicker for Oklahoma.  He is from the Dallas/Ft. worth area.  Garrett Hartley.  Are any of you guys from that area and had you heard of him?  I think he has some kicking records in texas.

Side Note to all you parents out there.  His Mom would only let him play soccer for fear of an injury.  His older brother got full ride to Kansas to play soccer and blew out a knee.  they took the ride away.  I have 3 brothers all played or playing college football (2 rbs at AFA and 1 at CNU with no serious injuries).  I told Garret stories of them and he begged his mom to play.  Finally around 8th grade she said he could try out as a kicker.  Long story short, his first ever college start was in conference championship and then National championship vs USC.  Blew his red shirt freshman season but didn't miss a kick.

Sorry I went so long, just bragging for one of your texas boys.

After watching WW beat St Johns in last year's play offs if is my opinion UMHB has a good shot against the Warhawks, if they contain perhaps the best WR in D3 Derek Stanley.  Stanley had three great catches against the Johnnies at critical times that were back-breakers.  I recall UMHB d-backs were able to stay with Linfield's great receivers in the Stagg.  They will need the same type of performance against an excellent WW receiving corps..but especially Stanley.  Question is..does UMHB have the speed at corner back to Stay with Derek..he will try to beat you deep several times?

@d3jason

Stanley definately a special player. Probably as fast as the Beavers kid from Wesley (6-239-4tds vs umhb) last year with better hands.

If the cru can win this one maybe the south champ wouldn't have to travel to the west or north champion this year for the semifinals.  Any thoughts?

After watchin the Wesley game UMHB played last year I dont seriously think that they can beat the hawks, that dosen't mean the hawks cant lose it.  With big hawk wins two weeks ago against lacrosse and this comming sat. its gonna become pretty clear that the 2 best teams in the country are just that much better than everyone else.

Well, I think that Saturday will be a great game, and I think that the competition will be much greater than you think.  Both UMHB and UW-W are very good programs with great tradition, particularly in recent years.  The Wesley game did expose weaknesses in the UMHB defense last year, but I believe that both the coaching staff and players returning from last year have learned from that loss.  The defensive scheme is sound, and I look forward to seeing what Defensive Coordinator Larry Harmon has in store for UWW, particularly with his great half-time adjustments.  It will definitely be a competitive game that either team can win, but I will most assuredly be backing the Cru and believe they will win on Sat. We will see, and the outcome will definitely come down to which team has prepared the most and executes their game plan.  I'm just glad I will be there to see it  ;D

Well that sounds good to me.  It would definitely be nice to have a semifinal down in the South for once.  I know that the win would do nothing, but help the cause. Ralph, what do you think?  Is there a legitimate shot at having a semifinal in the South? Anybody else have any opinion? thought?

I may be a little behind, but the SRS stats are a little inflated by this last game.  They had 8 sacks against Mcmurry.  I know they had no sacks against HPU, but they do normally rush 3

Officially we had 6.5 sacks against McM, but technically it was only 5, as .5 sacks are given to someone if they assist on a sack.  Makes the stats look better, but really we got him 5 times, not 8.  And of course we had no sacks against HPU.  He 3 step dropped and immediately released the ball on 98% of his passes.  It was impossible to get to him that night as quickly as he was letting the ball go.  Makes sense for the HPU offense to keep throwing the short pass  because we couldn't do anything to stop it that night.

That's odd -- don't most schools (and the NCAA!!) track half-sacks instead of giving each player one whole sack? That's a little disturbing!

From the looks of it, and from what I understand from looking at the stats each week, it seems that if 2 players sack a player, the person who made contact first gets 1 sack, and the player who assists gets a half sack.  I don't know if that is our stat guy or the stat program the ASC or our school uses.  And on top of that, who knows if that is official or accurate.

UMHB's press release for this week's game is now out.  Go to the link below.

Sounds like the NEW Texas math joke:

Q.  How many UMHB players does it take to get a sack?
A.  One, but 2 get credit for it.

Sounds like someone missed a day at STAT Taking 101 class!

Please note the quote was from a Sul Ross player.  At UMHB they get their sacks the old fashioned way, by crushing the QB ;D

Thanks for the correction.  Just a small portion of Texas is using the new math!
