Well, HSU came to play and we didn't.  Have to give all the credit in the world to their offense as they moved it at will on our defense.  Our offense looked great until Austin went down, and then we sputtered to the finish.  Having so many freshmen playing for us definitely shows against a seasoned team like HSU, and if we can get some of this youth to stick around, we should be very competitive in the very near future.  But hey, 2 games to go.  2 very winnable games that will leave us at 7-2 on the year and in 3rd place in the ASC.  Now who would have thought anyone would be saying that when this season started?  Congrats to HSU.  Hope they, as well as UMHB, represent the ASC well in the playoffs.  Good to meet you Z and thanks for the kind words.  Also want to say that all of the oline and the 2 QB's (Jordan and Jordy) were very nice and complementing throughout the game and afterwards as we shook hands.  Very gracious in winning.  Now it's time to get ready for LC.

Kudos to the D3 crew. I think leaving UMHB at #6 was the right move (not that these polls will mean anything in three weeks). The respect I already had for you gentlemen just went up another notch.

Thanks for your insight into the game.  I respect your integrity and competitive nature.

Good luck in the rest of the season. :)

You gotta like seeing 2 ASC teams in the top 10!
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Let's hope that HSU or UMHB can make a deep run into the playoffs.  I think the games against Linfield and UWW prove they can play with anyone in the country.

UMHB has a championship caliber defense that will keep them in the game against anyone.  They need the offense to get on a bit of a roll like they did in 2004.  The D only came up with one turnover on Saturday, but it gave the offense a great chance to tie the game.  Losing 3 TOs did them in.  They weren't that far from scoring at least a couple of times.  The UWW defense did a good job, although I think they are a little weaker against the pass.

Kelly Boggs

Bill,

I never like to second guess coaches, never. They study film, know their personnel, etc... But, like you, I thought we could have hurt UWW with the pass.

Field position was a critical factor in the game. UMHB never had any... ever, until the fumble recovery in the 4th quarter. I am sure the poor starting positions factored into the play selection.

If the offense can start hitting on all cylinders, the Purple CRUsh will be a formidable opponent... especially for all those other teams that wear purple.

UMHBalum-n-Catland,  I thought the offense did much better in the 2nd half.  A crucial fumble on the long run after the catch and the penalty at the 5 really hurt UMHB.  You can't make those kind of mistakes.  The UWW punter may have been the player of the game.  His punts changed field position all afternoon.  Blocking Kleppe was a problem all afternoon.  UMHB did neutralize him with the bootleg pass, but you can't run that everydown.

SRDAD

Sorry about the gut reaction,
I just think Sully's attitude is better served by someone like SR97 than something overheard from our stands. I would probably say something like "they don't look that good", while thinking "we stand a chance of beating these guys if we play our game". I'm sure whatever, or if you heard something somebody said, its was no meant in a derogatory way, and not meant to be overheard maybe...
Yes, I understand about scholarships, we were recruited by Kansas Weslyan U, about the same distance but tooooo cold!
Like I said, gut reaction from a proud father, thanks to Dr. Turner for the perspective,
and good luck in the playoff! you're still from TEXAS!...

I've read all your posts, Bill, and my take on the game is the same as yours. The offensive penalties killed us - as well as turnovers. With UMHB's style of offense and playing a very good defense, every yard is precious and we just could not overcome the false start and holding penalties. The holding call when the CRU was on the five was devastating. But I have to give kudos to the WW "D," they made some plays when we were threatening.

SRDAD, my reaction was simply based on previous history with SR fans in the chat rooms which goes back several years.  I don't want you to think that I'm trying to single you out.  If you hang out in here long enough, we all pay for our sins at some point.  If you only hang out a little, you unfortunately have to pay for the sins of others who came before you.   ;)

Honestly, as a HSU fan, I was a bit concerned about Saturday's game--because I remember being on the sidelines when the last decent SRSU team that came into Shelton Stadium and left with a win over the Cowboys--and knowing that we could not afford another loss and still have playoff hopes.

SRSU has had an excellent season, and I'd think that they would certainly be looked at as one of the title contenders in the ASC next year.

ETBU has won 3 out of their last 4 games, playing at home, last game of the year, against UMHB.  I expect this to be a tight game.  UMHB will need to put last weeks game behind them.

Kelly Boggs

The game with ETBU is potentially very scary... The CRU has to put the disappointing loss to UWW behind them and take 'em one game at a time... and continue to improve on the offensive side of the ball. Keep up the defensive intensity Purple CRUsh... keep marching toward the playoffs.

After the UMHB loss the cowboys average score is 51.3 - 17.6.  Sure our defense starts slow but they figure things out.  Giving up 14 in the first quarter and some change and then giving up nothing the rest of the game, i can respect that.  Also Jimmie K did the respectable thing and sat the first teamers after the first drive of the second half.  HSU is a very experienced team with the first teamers but they also are playing more freshmen than i can ever remember as backups.  I know what ifs dont matter but score could have been a lot worse had Jordan stayed on the field.  Jordy is a respectable QB but there is no one on this side of the Mississippi like J Neal in D3.

Sour taste in the mouth this week.  Its time for a little payback.  Just a side note, the two times I ever played in Seguin, the weather was terrible.  Maybe this would be a game were the Cowboy O-Line and running backs can get something clicking if the weather is bad, otherwise the air attack will be in full effect.  I would love to see a couple 100 yard rushers in one game.

Bill, I dont see that being a problem.  Unfortunately this crazy commitee will make us play in the second round and beat the hell out of each other.  Maybe one year they will finally see the light and seperate us into different brackets and make us play in the semifinals.  Oh the thought of that gives me goosebumps!!!!

GO Cowboys and keep it rolling.
