I gave up on the Cowboys when they fired Tom Landry.

And I gave up on the Oilers when they blew that 37-7 (or so) lead at the half v. the Bills in a playoff game back in the last century ....  :'(

You need to find something you can hit ;D
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Warren:

I'm the one with sour grapes after last year.  I was so excited thinking the Cowboys were on the cusp of a conference championship and a trip to the playoffs.  I was already making plans for road trips!

I was at the TLU game last year and it was a back and forth affair.  I have no idea how many lead changes but several.  After the game ended I have had a sour grape taste since then.  I hope that the Cowboy players have the same taste and take it out on TLU Saturday.  That is the only way that I will be able to get it out.  Unfortunatly this will be the only Cowboys game that I have to miss all year.

TLU looks to me as being very dangerous.  I'm sure the Cowboys will not take them lightly after what happened last year.

HSU and UMHB both have road games that could be a problem.  I'm not saying they will, but it wouldn't surprise me to see one or both struggle a little.

Ralph -- OK, here's another gratuitous cheap shot:
In 2001 both teams beat McM, and McM has never made the D3 playoffs in football! ;D
Excuse me, that's 2 shots. ::)

Nor have 7 6 other of the teams in the ASC! :D ;D :)  (in football that is).

Bill McCabe

Ralph, are HSU, ETBU and UMHB the only schools to have made the D3 playoffs?

Ralph Turner

Bill, yes!  Austin College was NAIA D-II National Co-Champions in 1981 as a member of the TIAA, the antecedent conference of the ASC.

Texas Lutheran was National Champions in NAIA D-II as an independent in 1974-75.

McMurry's last trip to playoffs was in 1980 (NAIA-D-II)
Sul Ross State's last trip was in 1982 (NAIA D-II).
HPU's last trip was in 1995 (NAIA-DII), a 17-6 loss to conference-mate HSU in the first round.

Miss Coll made the D2 playoffs in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

I have not found a playoff appearance or bowl game for LaCollege.

Prior to HSU bringing back football in 1990, they had a very rich history in football.

In 1935-36, HSU played New Mexico State in the Sun Bowl, ending in a 14-14 tie.

In 1936-37, HSU played El Paso Mines in the Sun Bowl, winning 34-6

In 1942-43, HSU played the Second Army Air Force Bombers, losing 13-7 (coached by the famous Texas HS coach, Warren Woodson)

In 1946-47, HSU played the University of Denver in the Alamo Bowl, winning 20-0

In 1947-48, HSU played San Diego State in the Harbor Bowl, winning 53-0

In 1948-49, HSU played in 3 bowl games, in the Lodi Grape Bowl, playing the College of the Pacific, ending in a tie 35-35; in the Shrine Bowl, playing Ouachita Baptist, winning 40-12, and the Camellia Bowl, playing the Wichita, Kansas Wheatshockers, winning 49-12 (HSU will always be unique in the annals of college footbal for playing in four bowl games in 1 year [the Harbor Bowl was on January 1, 1948])

In 1958-59, HSU played Wyoming in the Sun Bowl, losing 14-6

After the 1963-64 football season, HSU disbanded football until 1990.

HSU has had some famous football players and coaches at HSU....Clyde "Bulldog" Turner, Wilton "Hook" Davis, Warren Woodson (Coach), Frank Kimbrough (Coach), and Sammy Baugh (Coach)

Anyway, there is a topline history of HSU football....my cousin, Dr. Merlin Morrow, wrote a very comprehensive book on HSU athletics......

Also Jimmie K did the respectable thing and sat the first teamers after the first drive of the second half.

Good point Minni.  That's why HSU reloads every year instead of rebuilding.  Tons of kids get playing time and game experience every year.  Below are the games so far and how many players participated:

Stevens Point -             59
Linfield -                       58
Mississippi College -        70
UMHB -                        56
East Texas Baptist -       69
Howard Payne -             40
Sul Ross -                     64

That's an average of 59 players per game!

Hopefully HSU can get everyone healthy and get rid of the nagging injuries before the playoffs and hit the playoffs with full force.

I was at that game.  AC kicked an ungodly long field goal (over 50 yards and maybe even 60+) to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.  Coaches agreed prior to the game to be co-champs in case of a tie.
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

As I thought, Saturday's game was a huge clash of defenses!  I sure wish I could have been there to see it.  Hope you all put this behind and go forth and cream this week's opponents!!  All the best.
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

kickhoe:

That 46-47 Alamo Bowl game in San Antonio was played before a couple thousand spectators in Alamo Stadium (capacity 20,000). As I recall, it had been postponed at least once because of an ice storm. The financial backers took a bath, and the Alamo Bowl died a quiet death, never to be repeated.
