Weak Safety

Just out of morbid curiosity, are you HSU fans likely to slit your wrists in hot water if the Cowboys don't "hang 60" on TLC or McMurry? If so, can I watch?

Wow.  Pathetic.

Well I can solve the Kubiak problem and assign someone to block him on punt, and quit that spread out sideline to sideline punt formation.

Nobody can solve the Kubiak problem

Ralph what would happen IF Trinity doesnt win the SCAC??  The whole Texas Championship could have a kink in the hose.  Would the commitee fly two teams to Texas or would they try and split us up again??  Just something my brain was chewing on!!

Barring Ron's cynicism, and the way that they have treated Linfield and some other NWC teams in the past, I think that they would fly 2 teams into Texas, e.g. Millsaps and someone else.

They have to fly Millsaps somewhere!

Myself and others have been sort of negiligent on this point, assuming Trinity will make it. Millsaps getting in would guarantee a Texas split, at least in the first round, by virtue of the no rematches in first round rule.

Also, I think the common opponent rule could open the door for Hardin-Simmons to host Trinity, if they were to manhandle TLU this week ... there is no rule that says an AQ must host a Pool C.

Subjectively, I'd also like to see Wesley moved to the East Region bracket to add some teeth to it, but I doubt that will happen.

(hope I'm quoting the right person there, I thought Bowerman said the above)

I think Wesley stays No. 1 in the South, because there are three legitimate No. 1 seeds in the East (Wilkes, Cortland and Hobart) and I doubt the former loses, even if the other two do.

Conversely, there are no unbeatens in the South and little depth beyond the top three. I think the East's 4-5-6-7 would beat the South's similarly-seeded playoffs teams this year, so it's my opinion that the East has plenty of teeth this year, more than the South and North.

Note that I've removed my offending post. It was a misguided -- if not "pathetic" -- attempt at humor in response to some HSU fans who expressed a wish to run up the score ("hang 60") on TLU and McMurry. Please accept my apologies.

Im a little late to the board to get in on this, but I just have to throw my .02 in.

I am on the side of those that think that there are no "fluke plays" in football games.  I think flukes are determined by total execution of one team, and little or no execution of the other.

First off, the Kubiak problem.  Yes it is a problem for other teams and for that I am happy.  However, stopping The Kubiak Problem means that you start the Jarrell Freeman Problem, and the Eric Henry Problem, and the Ricky Lopez Problem, and the Elliott Barcek Problem....(I am leaving others out i know)   That is why the defense is so good.  Sure they have an All-American free safety in Kubiak, but they also have two middle linebackers that run a 4.4, and a quick and powerful defensive line.  You can't concentrate on one man, because if you do, sure he won't beat you, but all the others will.

UMHB has prided itself on blocking kicks.  I know because I blocked 3 fg/pat's, and a 5'10'' slow white boy with a 25" vertical is not supposed to do that.  But we work it, and we are good at it.  Willamette--'04--UMHB blocks 2 PAT's and runs them both  back for 2pts.  They block the last FG in overtime to win the game.  "Flukes?"  I think we were just good at it.

Most football games average about 120-140 plays total.  Yet against good teams, only 4-5 of those determine the outcome of the football game.  That is why whether you are "100 points ahead or 100 point behind, you must play every play the same."  (--roocru--)  Because you never know when that one play is going to get you back in the ballgame.   Good teams work to make these big plays like kick blocks and int's.  I know that both HSU and UMHB did this to prepare for their game.  Maybe next time it HSU will win those big plays as they definitely have the potential to.  Sure HSU dominated statistically, who cares!  Only one stat matters--the score.  UMHB dominated UWW statistically-- who cares!  7-3 and an L the only stat that matters to UMHB in the end.

And the whole offense only scores because the always get the short field...  who cares!  As a coach I would take it EVERY TIME, never thinking twice.  If I had a UMHB defense, I would play the field position game everytime I stepped on the field. No rule I ever saw says that you ONLY get 4 pts for a TD because you ONLY had to go 25 yds instead of 80.  All teams have their strengths and weaknesses.  Why not play to your strengths?

Ok i think I am done for now, just couldn't resist.  I look forward to any conversation made of this.
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

Ron, you are right.  It is a nice article.  This is the same NCAA that will select the teams for the playoffs and set up the first round matches!  ::)

That was a great article about McMurry, it is ridiculous that they are being forced to change. I wish they did have the pockets to fight it, but either way Go Indians.

I am the one who started the Kubiak problem and I was talking on special teams.  You can't assign an offensive guy to Kubiak.  This isnt Basketball.  When i said assign a guy to Kubiak i was specifically talking special teams.  Assign a guy to him and dont let him through and block a kick.

I have seen that kid spilt more than one double team and still make a tackle or block a kick. If you do assign a double team that could open up a hole somewhere else and if you just assign one guy to block him you better make sure that guy is one bad hombre. Cause you know that number 5 sure is.
