Minni,

Jordan told me he thinks part of the problem is that UMHB's D matches up better than any other D with HSU's offense.  That makes sense.  UMHB had to know that HSU's offense would be the one year in and out it would need to beat for a shot at the ASC ring.  This weekends game should be a good one.  My hope is that it isn't a win by attrition on either side because I think either team can make a run to the semi's if they are healthy after the game.  I'd be lying if i said I didn't want MHB to win, I'd like to see a list of rematch games especially a UMHB-UWW rematch, but either team is good enough to "git-r-done"
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Oh and for the UMHB radio crew (I was one that picked the Cowboys to win in double digits last time).  After losing in double digits I think this game will be as close as they come.  Both teams are very deserving of being in the playoffs and I think the winner stands a great chance of going all the way.

I picked HSU by double digits last game also Z.  I've never been so happy to miss a pick.

I've been in Texas....Certain parts are hotbeds of talent.......Certains parts ain't nothing but nothing....not even people.

Come on down to Texas have yourself a ball take the kids to Six Flags take you wife out to the mall. But when you are finished please don't hesitate to turn your car back up the road on that outbound interstate.

1st off I want to say good luck to both UMHB and HSU, both are excellent teams.  If McMurry wants to improve they have to go to some bigger schools, when they were good in the late 90's, they had 5A and 4A talent and depth, even very good 3A depth.  I realize the newer schools took several of though players, but they need to find out how to get in it again.  The West Texas schools are important, but you need that talent.  Their next coach needs to be younger and more energetic.  You can go as young as late 20's early 30's.  Catch one on the rise not on the decline.   He needs to a more of a personality, and then he could get a couple of good x's and o guys on his staff.  The last coaches lacked that.  They were x and o guys, not CEO, leader types.  Bottom line, the lines and defenses are solid as any America southwest conference; they lack the skill position players.   I would focus on a coach or assistant from a winning non scholarship program.  I do not think Gray is the answer, good guy, good coach; he lacks the it factor McMurry needs right now to win.  If he is their it will be the same result.

What do d3 coaches make, head coaches and assistants.

I think that the UMHB and HSU game is going to be awesome.  Both teams are full of talent and have film from this year so that they can learn from their mistakes.  I am just upset that I will be unable to make it to the game.  As long as UMHB prepares, as the guys know they should, than the game will be very exciting and conclude with a great win for the Cru.  As long as the defense continues to do well then the Cru will be in great shape.  Hopefully the Cru offense will continue to improve and make a statement on Saturday.  Well, I am looking forward to a great rematch.  No matter which team wins, I would love to see an ASC team make a run all the way to the National Championship.  Good Luck to the Cru. Have a great game seniors!

mhb8904,  I think that assesment is correct.  I think the HSU defense has a harder time with the UMHB offense.  Except for the regular season game in 2004, UMHB has scored a lot of points against HSU.  Our defense has given HSU fits in most of the games.

Chris Allman has a good Around the Region (South) article this week.

He should not beat himself up too badly about the predictions.

The ASC just has a big "middle" now.  Had TLU missed that last-seond FG vs La College  (a 24-22 TLU win) and McMurry defeated SRSU (a less plausible conjecture with the 34-15 loss at the SRSU Homecoming) and lightning not canceled the LC-HSU game, we would have seen a 7-way tie for 3rd, or last, with a conference record of 3-5! :o

The middle of the conference has good wins over Trinity (TLU), the early season wins over Millsaps (MC and LaCollege), Austin College (TLU and McM).  Also, MC and LaCollege picked up wins over first-year program LaGrange.  That win boosted MC's in-region record from the .333-.499 tier in the Quality of Wins Index to the .500-.665 tier.  The LaCollege win would have been important in moving their in-region percentage in the .500-.665 tier, and the HSu game remain canceled.

A very successful season for most teams...some disappointment that leads to extra work in the weight room...but a good balanced season for the conference!

GOOD LUCK TO HSU/UMHB, I HOPE ONE OF THEM GOES DEEP AGAIN. AS FOR MCMURRY, I HOPE THINGS START TURNING AROUND. JUST LIKE YOU SAID IN THE LAST POST THERE IS A HUGE MIDDLE IN THE CONFERENCE. THEY JUST NEED A BOOST TO GET THEM UP TO THAT MIDDLE AND THEN WORK FROM THERE.
IF THEY GIVE THE JOB TO GRAY (WHICH THEY SHOULD) HE WILL DO A GREAT JOB. KIDS RESPECT HIM AND RELATE TO HIS ENTHUSIASM. GOOD LUCK MCM, I AM READY TO SEE SOME GOOD FOOTBALL OVER THERE!!

I agree maroonpride4, players play off the enthusiasm of their coaching staff, and that is one thing that Gray has always had, enthusiasm.

I do not agree with the HSU/UMHB game is played so early in the playoff's, this is a key game not only for this part of the bracket but the entire tournament. Either one of these teams can represent the ASC in this tournament for many weeks to come, but now we will take one out right off the bat.  Are we the only same conference matchups this week?  Or do other same conference teams have a chance of meeting later? These two teams are not only Regional Powerhouse's, but they also are National Powerhouse's. Again it is a shame.  Good luck both teams, show the strength of the ASC.

GO TRIBE!!!!
