Stopped that when football was over, and got married and had a little girl.  The new Finkle is calm and a lot more layed back.

The definition of stupidity doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different result.   I think Gray is a ok guy and an ok coach, but he has been in the same system.     You have go out of that enviroment and bring in some new blood, new ideas.   If not you are going to get the same results.  The middle of the conference has been there for years.  McM is not far off, they just need a coach with the It factor and can get coaches in the state to know and like him, so when a player does come around they can get him.  They need a guy who can get that money from alumni also.  They need a CEO type.  He needs to make everyone feel apart, from players to alumni to fans.   He is not the answer.   He is just an x and o guy.  He has not learned how to win in a long time.

Very good response on the Daily Dose.

I'm afraid I'm in a similar situation that you were in two years ago. I have a son (sophomore) that is on the bubble of the 52 man playoff roster.  Hope that it works out for him but no matter I would not want anything other than the very best 52 going even if he is not included.  We will be in for a heck of a showdown and must play our very best Saturday.  I feel like the dad of all the players, although I do not know very many of them personally, they feel like family as I watch and yell for them every week.  It sure was fun seeing that Moore trophy hoisted up high by Coach K and the players.  That is what it is all about.  I recall in my son's high school, his team went to the semi-finals, and after each playoff game the atmosphere on the field was indescribable.  It is a tragedy that one of the ASC teams will not get that feeling Saturday as they both are very worthy of it.

For this week I want the Cowboys to beat the Cru.  That is it.  A win in Belton.  However, should we lose I will be the biggest Cru supporter here on the board.  I have such respect for their team and program.  Truly a winner will emerge from the game Saturday whoever it is.

Now Go Cowboys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats bull, he has ideas and new ways of doing things. he hasn't been able to show that yet as an assistant. just because he is a part of a program doesn't mean he agrees with what is being done. he does relate to everyone, he is is way more than an x's and o''s guy and he knows how to win. he has been successful before he was here. pretty sure he has a ring from hsu!

fink, are you still in abilene? i knew about the kiddo. congrats!

I respect you opinion, but it will not  work.  That was a long time ago.  He does not look the part or speak the part.  I mean look at HSU and UMHB, they got guys who were at Baylor in there heyday.  That know every coachg in this state.  Now you want to bring a guy who is an assistant at a losing d3 program.  Not a good choice.  Who would send their kid they coached their, especially if they liked him?  Either get a old winner or a young guy who has been at a winning non- schlorship program and has up side.

Gray has had to wait his time to get his ideas put in place, two years ago is when is started putting his ideas with Patterson's run offense.  If I recall they went from 2-8 to 5-5. This past year they fought injuries across the board. Losing 3 of 5 starting O-Line, in the scrimmage. Hard to run the ball with back ups, i do not care what program you are in. Gray running the Special teams but the offense in great position many times, it was the offense that had problems moving the ball. I can say that cause I was on it. Gray knows how to win, he knows how to motivate people, if it was not for coach's like Gray I would not have stayed at McM, he made football fun. Other than my Daughter being born, the greatest time of my life was playing college football.  One thing that Gray, Keenum, Saucedo did that my dad (proudmcmdad) said a long time ago is that I might not have one a lot of games, but they made people like me and maroon into good people.  So for that I have the upmost respect, and gratitude for it.  Gray deserves this chance, and I KNOW he will bring McM back to where it was when HSU/MCM played for something at the end of every year.

maroon, I moved back down to the Houston area.  I work for the Boy Scouts of America. I do finance, budgets, fundraising. That kind of stuff. are you still in abilene. how is tara?

They had that that QB that did that.  I do not want to argue but they hire him, I  they will not win. Period.  I meet him, he does not have it.  They will not win.  During you your time, they should have won 3 x as many games with that talent. .  I did not say they were bad guys or coaches just not they guy you want to lead a team.  He has not been groomed right.  In the futre he may be great, but he needs to be groomed.

Coach Gray's father is a long-time, well-respected Texas high school football coach, and Donnie himself played at HSU during their (ahem) "heyday".

agree to disagree.....i promise there are plenty of successful coaches that came from somehwere that was not very successfull. everyone needs a chance and there is no way you can judge how well a coach will do by how successful he was as an assistant. is his background at hsu not that grooming you are talking about?

I promise there are plenty of successful coaches that came from somehwere that was not very successful.  Who?  do not give me a grant teaff example.  That was a different time.   Unless the did does like McM in the late 90's put up 60 points and give up 40.  What level did his dad coach at? He is not his dad.  He was at HSU a long time ago, brother. What Sr. did is not what Jr. has done.   Doe she have an HSU degree?  Josh , I know you want that 19 game streak to continue so you will push Gray, butI want it to stop already.

Sender--

For the record, I'm a Coach Gray "fan" simply because he's my friend and fraternity brother.  I cannot and would not begin to speculate on whether or not his being named Head Coach at McMurry is or is not the right move for the school or the football program within this public forum.  That's a private, personnel matter, and it is up to Bill Libby and John Russell to decide upon.

I do wish him the best and the McMurry football program the best, however--my wife did go there (McM), and except for the HSU game every season, I'm a McM fan.

Josh, well said.  I remember when Baylor hired Grant Teaff there were a lot of questions about him.  I'd say he did ok and fooled his detractors.  I hope Coach Gray does well.

Living in Waco during that time, I knew John Bridgers and Bill Beall (top assistant from LSU) and played high school football with their sons.  Baylor sank sooooooo low during the Bill Beall era!

Teaff was an incredible turnaround, SWC Champs in 1974!

Different day and he did get two good coaches to help him.  One you know well(UMHB coach). The other the HSU coach.   He is the embodiment of CEO type.  Two great x and o guys adn he taught them the intangibles of how to not only coach but have a presense among your players and high school coaches.     It wears off, in business or coaching.  I do not want you think Gray is bad, but it is not his time.  Not now.  Teaff had the h.s coaches liking him for that talent they had.  He was from Texas the other  guys were not.  That held more than it does now.    he does speak well and is a leader.  It is what he is.  I hope they get him to interview the replacement coach, with the others.
