Congratulations to the CRU!!!

Just wanted you guys to know that CruAlum39 won his game today 21-7.  His team will play the winner of Houston Furr and Houston Davis next week at 1:00 pm at Delmar Stadium in Houston!!! ;D ;D ;D

I think I got a perfect score in the pickems and an extra point for the UMHB/HSU point spread. ;D  ;D It would have been another great weekend except that all three of my district schools in the playoff lost last night.  :( :(

Go Roos!!  Go Cru!!!  Go Caney Creek Panthers !!!!!

roocru, you had a choice!

The Pick'em, the Cru and Caney Creek  OR
The 3 playoff teams in your district! ;D :D :)

It was good to see you, umhb8904 and umbcrufan16!

Good luck the rest of the way!

Go CRU!  Go ASC!

D3ASC

well Bowerman I guess the cru offense isn't so bad after all. maybe next year you woun't call them out on a national stage. I guess the reagional rankings were right after all

D3ASC, from what I saw today, I wonder if the UMHB passing game will deliver come the semifinals or the Stagg Bowl.

Josh Welsh is a very solid QB who executes the UMHB rush-oriented offense very well.  He will not beat himself.  The 800-lb gorilla that everyone wanting an ASC Stagg champion recognizes is whether UMHB can fashion a passing attack, especially for later in the playoffs. that wins the Stagg.

Good luck, CRU!  Beat the Generals!

Ralph - They like to be called the Presidents! Until someone can stop the CRU rushing attack, why worry about the pass. HSU defense did a great job of covering the pass, but to do that they had to sell out the run. Glad you could be on hand for the game. Will you make it back next week?

A little tacky there D3ASC. ???

Josh had some good points in his argument because there were many short drives for their TD's.   I do think their drives today 30yds, 33 yds(FG), 82 yds, 70 yds and 76 yds showed they can do both if they have to. ;)

Ralph,
As always, we do not see UMHB throwing the ball until they have to!  I did not see today's game, but I suspect their good showing rushing the ball today along with the fact they had their lead, led to fewer attempts.  I definitely agree they need to be able to pass the ball to win the Stagg but I doubt we are going to find out about it until they have to.

Ps: No choices there Ralph, but I am definitely happy with the good results I received!!! :)  Sorry I missed you.  I will be there next week and hope you can return as well.
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

Oops!  My bad!  It must be the sunstroke!  :P

Great day for football.  I was counting on the high temperature being 64 degrees with some wind.  Instead it must have been in the mid 70's with no wind and I sat on the visitor's side.

I worry about the pass, because it was Welch's performance vs MUC that got you to the Stagg. :)  9-21-169 yds - 1 INT- 2TD's

Actually, I will be visiting my daughter, son-in-law and grandson in Colorado next week! :)

roocru, the UMHB offense wore HSU down in the relative heat.  (Time of possession.)  It was really short sleeves and shorts weather today.  Those long scoring drives were in the second half.  (A +/-  questionable pass interference call in the HSU end zone led to the 2nd TD just before the half.  I was beyond the north end of the east pressbox.  That call was in the "southwest" endzone.) :)

Ralph,

Good to meet you.  I wish we could have talked at Schoepf's :P

It seemed to me the biggest problem with the passing game today was the HSU DB's.  Josh seemed to be throwing it pretty well, but he only attempted 12 passes.

I was a little further south for the Pass interference in the end zone, and I thought it was interference.  It looked to me like the trailing defender jammed the receiver when he came back to the ball.  Josh said he thought the receiver came over the defenders back, but didn't know for sure.

In all I thought the game was fairly called.  For the most part the refs let them play.  The sub penalty was a killer, but they had to call it.  HSU broke the huddle with 12 and they had already called it on MHB earlier.  I didn't like how the call played out, but it was the right call.

I thought the biggest setback for HSU however was the 1st TD of the second half that made it a 3 score game.  It forced HSU to go to the air, which is not a bad thing with J Neal at the healm, but with the short passes in the field of play and MHB running the way they were, it just ate up too much clock (MHB had the ball 12+ minutes in the 4th quarter).

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Thanks mhb8904, good luck and I infer you had a safe trip back to Abilene.

Have a good semester and a Merry Christmas!

Well.....I've seen UMHB and W&J in person. UMHB will win...BIG, IF they don't turn the ball over SIX FREAKIN' times like CNU did today. We manhandled W&J in every aspect of the game except the one that counts..the socreboard. We were down 27-0 and nearly pulled it out (muffed a free kick with less than 1 minute...we get that and we score...no doubt).

451 yds for CNU to W&J 181.
Our backup QB came in the second half and was 17-21 2 TD and something like 200 yards (can't remember exactly).

Oh...did I mention you can't win with 6 FREAKIN' TURNOVERS? Our D was way faster than their offense. They do have a nice O-line that was givign their QB some time. Our #2 (Hilliard-RB) ran for 175 yards on them.

I'm cheernig for UMHB in this one....good luck.

And don't turn the ball over 6 FREAKIN' TIMES!!! you'll win.

I wish it was CNU, too....although I don't think anyone can beat UMHB twice in one season!! I'm seriously looking at a road trip to Texas next year.....I wonder if it will be week 2 like this year's game at CNU.

How 'bout the CRU! The defense comes up big in the first game against HSU and the offense gets it done in the rematch. The Purple CRUsh is starting to hit on all cylinders. The playoff ride is underway!

85, that's not the whole truth, and you know it.

Opening possession, Presidents go right up the field and drop a td pass on the post.

Second possession, Presidents go right up the field and score.

At least three more times, post or post-corner was WIDE OPEN and just overthrown.

Until 27-0 and the Presidents went to the pack-it-in-run, CNU could not/did not pressure W&J offense at all.  Brought 3, brought 4, didn't happen.

Swallow started 7 for 9 for 56 yards and 1 score (should have been 8-9 for 91 yds and 2 scores).

And, by the way, the total offense differential was almost entirely in the second half AFTER it went to 27-0.  At that point, it was 192-186 CNU.....

The Captains got it going, the Presidents couldn't get it going again.
Been wrong before.  Will be wrong again.
