Weak Safety,  great point about the game.  There was a lot of hard hitting and several players were banged up.  I hope there were no serious injuries.

yessir

There were definately some injuries. Both teams play very physical. I know Jerrell Freeman had an injury.  He is such an important part of the cru defense. I hope he has a speedy recovery along with the rest of the guys that were beat up a little. I was glad to see William Dewease playing. I know he was injured pretty bad earlier in the season. It shows how determined he is to be on the field. If he was some big D1 player he would of definately been out for the season with worrying about his NFL career. That is why I love D3 football. It's all about the love of the game. No big time contracts to worry about. Just guy playing the game they love. I hope the Cru does well this week. Happy Turkey Day. Go Cru!
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.

yessir I'm on your side.   Face it the cowboy faithful knows deep down that UMHB owns HSU.  The cowboys have no answer for the Cru.  Even in 1999 (2nd year of our program) you could tell that UMHB would be the best in the conference in a very short time.  Powder River Baby!

T.C.B. Crusaders.  Keep winning and Ill see you in a couple of weeks.

I would not say own the Cowboys.  They certainly have beat us as of late, but own is a little strong.

Hey...NOBODY "owns" HSU!!! >:(

Show a little class.  Sure UMHB won the conference and the first game in the playoffs. :'(

That is history.  And would HSU like for things to be different?  Sure.  So you won 6 of the last 7...who won the other 4?  (I believe it is 6-5 now...UMHB...check it out if you want to.)  And while we are at it...what about the other sports?

Is UMHB well-rounded and balanced in anything else besides football.  Look at the other sports...I'm sure HSU can more than match UMHB's record there with many more conference championships...it would probably be pathetic!!! ;D

So enjoy your glory while you can.  You are on a roll...no reason to gloat, however. ;)

The Cowboys will be back...heck, they even beat the Colts Sunday!!! :-*

Well, I made myself curious...so more information on the UMHB/HSU story.

All sports.

dsc,

Congrats on beating up on the baby Crusaders. Seems a little more even now that the program isn't new.

Whoa DSC,  Take a breath.   ;D

While I agree that own is a strong word and that it may be to close to a hard loss, I think your arguments about other sports are a stretch in justifying what was said on a football board.  Especially to a program which is relatively new compared to the illustrious history of Hardin Simmons University.  ;)

What some of you HSU faithful have seem to forgotten is all the grief heaped on UMHB as they were building their football program to try and emulate the success of HSU.  We heard the words "never beat HSU" and "can't beat HSU" until we were tired of it as well.  While I don't think the word "own" is appropriate, even you admit that in the recent past the "worm has turned".

Let's look at the history of the scores;
1999   HSU 28   UMHB  21     HSU lost to Trinity in 3rd round
2000   HSU 21   UMHB  7       HSU lost to St. John in 3rd round
2001   HSU 30   UMHB  27     HSU lost to Wittenburg in 1st round
2002   HSU 16   UMHB  35     UMHB lost to Trinity in 1st round
2003   HSU 36   UMHB  43     ETBU advanced
2004   HSU 49   UMHB  22     UMHB lost to Linfield in Stagg Bowl
           HSU 28   UMHB  42
2005   HSU  7    UMHB  38     UMHB lost to Wesley in 2nd round
2005   HSU 16   UMHB  28     UMHB is still playing in 2nd round
           HSU 21   UMHB  33

HSU average margin of victory - 12.75
UMHB average margin of victory - 15.83

Until HSU can turn the corner once again (and I am sure that it will happen one day), I think it is safe to say that UMHB is in control of the series at least.   :)

roocru, you were either up late or up early!  :o

dsc

roocru...you're just making my point by posting all the scores, etc.  I hardly call a 6-5 advantage...as "owning" a series...especially when two of the wins were in one season, by the same team.  (That should be expected IMHO.)

As you say, UMHB's success has been recent, that is why I referred to the Crusaders as "upstarts."  :D

And I also agree that "streaks" come and go.  In all honesty, HSU dominated for so long, it is hard to see things any other way...even though the competition is good for the conference!  So enjoy it while you can.

Good luck in your run to Salem.  But, trust me...the Cowboys will ride again!

Bring out the round ball... :)

roocru -- No doubt, UMHB controls the football series with HSU now. But to say they "own" HSU is more than strong.
As for other sports being brought up on this board -- people do it all the time. DSC's purpose seems to have been to simply point out the balance of quality in HSU athletics. Four Fall sports. Three championships. One second-place finish. Anyone out there in the ASC can match that? ???
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

Bill McCabe

I think it was pretty smart of UMHB to try and emulate HSU's football program.  They have been winners for a long time.  They have a great overall program.  Series go in cycles and right now UMHB is riding high.  It makes for a great rivalry and is a game I will see every year.

CruAlum39

baddog...

If you read back to roocru's post, you will see that even he said that "own" was a strong word to be used.  I feel the same.

The series is close at 6-5, but UMHB has won 5 out of the last 7 meetings.  I think that does tell a tale of UMHB's dominance over the last 4 years.

I can remember a time early in my football career at UMHB, where we heard many of these same things on this board from HSU posters.  Statements about HSU's "dominance" or "owning" or whatever you want to call it over UMHB.  Maybe some of these posts are a little classless or distasteful, but... "what goes around comes around."

We should all be a little more tactful on this board, but I think our heart plays into our words more than our minds do in some of the words we use, and I think we sould all take that into effect.  We are still fans.

Congratulations to HSU for a good year and to Jordan Neal for the Offensive player of the Year award.  He was nothing short of a class act and a fierce competitor when I played against him which seems like soooo long ago.  (2yrs)

CONGRATS to the CRU... wish I could be there for the game on Saturday, but I'm planning on working on a defensive gameplan for our opponent in the Quarterfinals!!!

GO CRU!!!  GO CANEY CREEK!!!
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

I think the poster/s (I think it was one or two) that used the term "owns" was reacting to what the poster/s saw as excuses being made by some HSU fans for losing to UMHB. And I have to agree that given the recent success UMHB has enjoyed over HSU that some Cowboy fans refuse to give the CRU the respect that UMHB has earned. I too believe the term "own" is incorrect. It is nothing more than bravado.

And while term "owns" is over the top, I do understand someone using it out of frustration. When your team has put together a string of wins over a team and some of that team's fans keep insisting that the loses are due to: a) their team or star player not playing well, b) fluke plays, c) poor officiating, it comes across as disrespectful.

Keep in mind, not all HSU posters have done the above... and not all UMHB posters have used the word "owns." But each of us feel the need to defend out programs when we believe they are being disrespected.

Why can't we just say that UMHB and HSU are both really good programs. And when one wins, they win - simple as that. All games between good teams come down to little things. Those who have played the game understand that one missed blocked or one blown coverage can be the difference. And yes, penalties are a factor as well. You can "if and but" close games between good teams all day long, but what good does it really do?

I have no problem saying that HSU is a class program. There is no doubt they were the gold standard in the ASC and UMHB wanted to rise to the level of the Cowboys. The CRU has done that. Now, the UMHB vs HSU is the best rivalary (in terms of what is on the line) in the ASC and one of the best in all of DIII. Year in and year out, both teams are among the best in DIII. And right now, the CRU just happens to be on a roll.

If the outcome would have been different in this past Saturday's game, I would be rooting for HSU right now.

FWIW: On the subject of penalties, IMO UMHB has to cut down on the flags if they want to make significant noise in the playoffs.

Kelly,

I do that, of course being in the precarious situation I'm in, politicing seems a better choice than being burned in effigy.   ;D ;)
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.
