my nine months of think and should have's begin today!!!

i could sit here and piss and moan about "the call" but it would do no good.  it may or may not have affected the outcome of the game, but it doesnt really matter.  its monday and they are practicing and my team is turning stuff in and the seniors are in the locker room for the very last time as a Cowboy saying their farewells.

BUT, I do have comment about the overall officiating, IT SUCKED.  That was the worst group of what you could call officials i have seen at any level.  I am not talking just HSU I am talking the complete game on both sides.  Sure my vision is a little skewed to HSU but those guys should be saturday morning pop warner football referees.  They were terrible, they missed calls all day on both sides of the ball.  That official needed a permenant replay booth to look at everything.  they were not quick on their feet i didnt feel like they knew the rules, and wondered if they even knew it was a damn football game.  these guys were terrible and need there stripes taken away from them.  I overheard someone talking to Jordan about this after the game, he stopped them mid sentence and said, its over and done with and there is nothing we can do about it.  So thats what im doing, but i had to get that off my chest.  Sorry!!!

I thought the officiating was horrible as well.

Ok I just looked up the rule regarding substitutions.  I have no idea why they called either of the teams for this penalty unless the player that was to be replaced did not immediately leave the field of play (the rules state with 3 seconds).

Anyway it is in Rule 3, section 5

I have a friend of mine that is an official in DII football.  I will have to ask him if he has ever seen that call.

Ok I'm glad I don't have to know that entire rule book!!!

these officials along with the selection commitee can meet me and some others out behind the woodshed and i've got a barrell of whoop @$$ for them.

I was told earlier in the year I needed to hit something well here is my chance!!!!

At least the rule book offers insight into interpretation.  The interpretation of the substitution rule in question is quite enlightening.  12 men in the defensive huddle is an infraction if the player leaving the field does not exit the huddle immediately (defined as in 3 seconds).  The example given calls the infraction an infraction at four seconds.  It is a dead ball 5 yd penalty against the defense for illegal substitution.  It is NOT the same as the 12 men in the huddle rule.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

+1 umhb8904!  Excellent research! :)

By four seconds, the infraction has occurred, and a time-out will not nullify the infraction.

And you did not have to go to Aramaic texts to find that either! ;)

Can you post the hyperlink?

That is what happened Saturday.  They player was looking for a place to line up and then tried to run off the field.  Then, HSU tried to call time out to prevent the penalty.

Here's a dandy for you rules interpretation... This happened in a High School playoff game here in  Pa.  this past weekend.. First a little history. The team in question runs an option offense and made all the referees aware of this play before every game because this exact call was made last year on the identical circumstance.

QB fakes the ball to the FB and runs for a TD. 20+ yrds  One referee blows the play dead thinking the FB had the ball. At the same time the line judge is running along the sidelines with the QB. Luckily it didn't cost the team as they won in O.T.

Of course the ruling is the whistle blew and the ball is dead.. At least they got a good spot for a first down

PA_wesleyfan,  I saw a high school game about 30 years ago at Gregory-Portland where the QB faked to the FB up the middle and threw a 50 yard pass for an apparent TD.  Two refs blew their whistles because they were faked out.  Made no difference in the game, but it sure was embarrassing for the officials.

PA_wesleyfan

Well in both cases you can tell the kid he did it right!!!

Since I'm beating up officials, most of them do a very good job.  Friday night at a 5A playoff game, the umpire had to be close to 300 pounds.  He couldn't run a step and could hardly bend over to place the ball.  I haven't seen anyone that looks like that at an ASC game.

Bill, do you remember the Port Neches Groves/Odessa Permian State Championship game in Texas Stadium that drew 51,000 back in the late 1970's?

Bill McCabe

Ralph, I remember the crowd.  Was there a weird play in that game? A couple of years ago there were over 40,000 for the state game at Rice Stadium.  Woodlands and North Shore?

TX2OK

does the rule book say anything about excuses?  just wondering.
