Maybe Thanksgiving travel has started early.

I talked to J Neal after class, and he added a little interesting info about the time out called when the substitution penalty was called.  He said it wasn't called because of the extra man, it was called because they had the wrong defensive package called.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Bill McCabe

mhb8904, you could tell there was confusion on the HSU defense.  Wow.

Please add my hearty congratulations to Jordan Neal as well.  It was always obvious to me what a great competitor he is. ;D ;D ;D

So, which posters are going to make it to the UMHB/W&J game?

Bill--

I hear through the grapevine that their defense is quite not as talented as they were when we faced them in 2004, but they do a good job of covering that up by blitzing themselves into plays, showing different sets and stemming around on the front line and in the secondary.  When a defense does that they can really help themselves, or they can really hurt themselves.  It just depends on whether UMHB can catch them in a bad blitz and capatalize.

Offensively I think they are a little more balanced than in 2004.  The were a heavy passing team then, but I think they concentrate on the run a little more now.

From what I heard of the CNU game, their defense blitzed and stemmed right, coming up with turnovers and they were able to take advantage of momentum swings and shorter field position early.  I know they did not have much offense in the second half and their defense came together to pull it out.  Like I said, this is what I heard or read, I was obviously not there so I'm not sure how accurate that is.

CruAlum39,
I was at the CNU/W&J game and your assessments are on target. ;)
The running game does use some WR motion, etc in the backfield for deception. Even some shotgun formation handoffs. Most of the carries go to Mendel though. Majority of the passes are short outs and the QB is fairly accurate.
CNU simply had poor QB play in the firsthalf or they may have won the game. Once they switched QB's at 27-0 the Captains began to click. The 2nd QB threw more accurately and on-time, thus they scored 21pts in the 2nd half. W&J gave them the saftey in exchange for a free kick with 1:00 to go.

roocru,

I will be present and accounted for at the W&J game. Tickets have been secured, thanks to a little help from a friend (if you are monitoring the posts, thanks John). We leave Central Louisiana this morning headed for the in-laws home in Salado. Looking forward to family, food, perhaps a little golf and a big win over the Presidents on Saturday.

Go CRU stay focused... one play at a time, one drive at a time, one game at a time!

Has the Aztec Bowl team been named?

yes...but haven't looked for the complete roster....I'm sure Pat C has it somewhere on the front page....

Rikki_Tikki_Tavi

aztecbowl.com or the afca.com should have the rosters. Well, the aztecbowl site still has last year's up. I wonder if they wait till everyone is done playing to release the complete roster and they notify players of teams whose seasons are complete that they made the squad. I dont know, Im just guessing here.

Ron Boerger

They add players from teams that are eliminated from the playoffs as the weeks go by.  I think they do that up to the quarters.   So ... no rosters until then.

Bill McCabe

llamaguy, the W&J team I saw in 2004 was very big, but they lacked speed on both sides of the ball.  Is that the case again this year?  Twice in that game, UMHB tackled the punter before he could get the kick off.
