Ralph, if 40 times were a prereq at Rice, we wouldn't be going to our first bowl game in 46 years!  HOW BOUT THEM OWLS!!!

Back in the days, I followed SMU so I understand your joy.

Just think, the capacity of the stadium that hosts Rice's Bowl appearance is probably such that it could hold all the Rice alumni.

Texas and A&M have more current students than Rice has alumni.  However, all the schools give the same number of scholarships.  And you must be able to read and write to go to Rice.  ;)

The offense must convert more 3rd and shorts.  I felt like there were several times in the game when a key first down would have been deflating to W&J.  The past 2 weeks the outside running game has been very effective.  I think we could have gone to that more on short yardage.  But, a win is a win and now it is on to Dover.

Question: Is it possible that UMHB just let up after the great firsthalf? I have seen it many times where a team is totally dominating then comes out flat for the secondhalf. W&J is a playoff team and I would have expected them to come back under those circumstances. I look at the glass as half full and think if they go into Dover with the same attitude they started with on Saturday they will be fine. I suspect they learned their lesson and may even be stronger for it next week. IMHO  ;)

Llamaguy, that could be the case.  W&J did a nice job of keeping the ball the entire 3rd period and against a strong, strong wind.  If they play like they did the first half and can move the ball, I think UMHB will win.  The running game has gotten better as the young line has matured.

Any TX posters headed to Dover this weekend?
A small version of the larger Stagg version of Stone Station is planning on being present on Saturday. Stop by and say hello if you make it to Dover! ;)

Try this http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-474874-dover_vacations-i
If that doesn't work google Dover Del and that will get you to the hotels.  They are all within a few minutes of the stadium...

As for flying... you may be able to get a flight to New Castle airport which is near Wilmington Del and half the distance from Philly. BUT I don't know how big the planes are that fly into New Castle. I would suspect Puddle jumpers

Billy B - You might want to look at flying into DC (BWI). From DFW you can get direct flights at times that should work for under $400. Don't know where you are flying from, but American probably is your best bet. Go direct to their website, just search American Airlines. Mobissimo.com is a very good travel site. Hope you make it to the game.

Philly is closer than DC if New Castle is out and easier drive to Dover

Thanks for the help guys. New question I know I am jumping ahead but if St. Johns upset Whitewater would Wesley or UMHB get a home playoff game?

Bill McCabe

billybaroo, you can fly Southwest into BWI or Philadelphia.

If the seeds are equal, then West hosts South. Otherwise the highest seed advancing hosts.

USC actually had 12 men on the field during the play when they had that penalty called....and illegal participation is a 15 yard penalty so even if there is any way to justify the refs calling that penalty last week there is no way to justify only penalizing us 5 yards...they either made a call that doesnt exist last week or they just announced the wrong penalty...

I think this was disproven by a citation of the rules last week. Read back through the board. Even Josh Bowerman stopped harping on the play after that. :)

I hope you had a great thanksgiving.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.
