I see that TLU has hired its new football coach, Dennis Parker. He was a coach at a high school in Mesa Arizona. He was a head coach at North Texas State for 3 years after Corky Nelson. Anybody know of him?

Ron Boerger

Here is a story from today's San Antonio Express-News on Dennis Parker.

QuoteDennis Parker, named football coach at Texas Lutheran on Monday, recalled being intrigued by the idea of coaching the Bulldogs when he was Judson's offensive coordinator in the early 1980s.

Parker lived in Seguin during his three-year stint with the Rockets and rode to work with another resident of the town, D.W. Rutledge, then Judson's defensive coordinator.  ... more at above link.

I would think this is a big weekend for recruits to visit the various schools.  Has anyone heard how recruiting is going?

Thought you all might find this interesting.  It's all the discussion on the ODAC board, but made ESPN today:

Hello ASC readers, I have a question for those who post on the Daily Dose site? I just tried to post and it says my message is awaiting moderation? What does that mean, is it because I just registered and someone has to accept me or something?

You know a while back we joked about Romance Taylor, and where he would play.  I read an article on line, and said he was leaving the competition in the dust in the Texas vs. the nation game.  He is wearing a Texas College helmet, he never played there.  If UMHB would have got him to go there just a semester,   take 12 hrs., and go to school.  They could have got him a helmet.  He is going to show out.  That would have been something for the conference as far as advertisement.  I know D3 players will be in the game and even a UMHB player, but that would have been over the top for advertisement.  That would have got them Mt. Union publisity.  It was on www.draftdaddy.com.

Sender, with the trouble Romance Taylor has been in, I doubt that is the kind of publicity UMHB would be seeking.

I was told that the NCAA is forcing UMHB to eliminate the name "crusaders" from the athletic programs. Does anyone have any information on this?

+1 Sender, for providing the hyperlink to Draft Daddy.  That may turn out to be a really good game because there are some guys getting their last chance there.

+1 Bill, for reminding us of the issues that prevented Taylor from going to almost any ASC school.

LACrusaderFan, I don't know anything for certain but rumors are going around campus that we are going to change to The Cru. I wish the NCAA would focus on more on important things and not always trying to be political correct.

I hope the NCAA doesn't talk to PETA.  All the animal mascots might have to go.  Otherwise teams would get in trouble for their "Beat the Tigers" yells. ;)

Good game for Crusader Hunter Hamrick in the Texas vs. The Nation game, punting 3 times for an average of 41.6 and a long of 48 yards. Too bad The Nation team won the game 24-20.

I had heard that UMHB was going to The Cru, but not because of the NCAA.  Incarnate Word University changed from the Crusaders, but it was a student led change.  I would like to hear from someone in the athletic department about a possible change.

crufootball

After talking with someone who interviewed the President of UMHB, they are not going to change the mascot from the Crusaders. They are just going to embrace the term "The Cru" and use it as a marketing tool, and still use the Crusader name as well.
