So...

National Signing day comes and goes and for some reason Susquehanna picked up a bunch of recruits in Killeen and Temple.

3 from Harker Heights High
1 from Ellison
3 from Shoemaker
1 from Temple

That's a lot of folks headed north to play D3.  How does that happen with good D3 choices in the area?

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I am just curious...how far is Carlisle Barracks, PA from Susquehanna?  Mappoint says 64 miles.  I wonder if some officers' kids are going back there and taking some friends with them.

I don't know what's up Ralph.  One of the kids said he had a better shot at PT there.  Hate to lose that many locals.

Interesting news:  Concordia has posted their site plan for their new campus at the old Schlumberger facility near Lake Travis.  One of the "future buildings" shown?  A football stadium with track.

Concordia also plans to grow to 2500 students over the next "30 to 40 years."

Maybe I am being provincial, but if he is getting more PT at Susquehanna, then he must believe that he is sitting on the bench at most ASC schools, or SCAC schools for that matter (if perceived academic standards are the issue).

Annual cost $35,200 from the Susquehanna website.

Way to go ASC, number 2 in total attendance. Good job by Mississippi Co leading the way for the conference.

Please check this out.  Austin College's moving to the SCAC may boost the average attendance figures for the ASC.  The Roos drew 2250 fans in 6 games for an average of 375 per game.  Dropping that total from the ASC average would have boosted the total to 2710 fans in 44 games, 2nd only to the MIAC.

McMurry has 4 really good games this year:  Louisiana College, UMHB early in the season, HPU and TLU.

Yep!  It happened!   ;)

Actually, in 46 games we picked up an extra 32 fans per game! :)

How do the Roos count their fans?  I haven't had to buy a ticket for the past two or three years. :-X

I believe the SIDs provide the estimate in the case where no tickets are taken.  Trinity doesn't charge for any of its athletics events except when mandated by the NCAA, but there are always crowd numbers provided in the various boxes.

Mary Hardin-Baylor looks like it is getting a good running back from Bryan HS.

Quote below is from link in Bryan Newspaper above.

Bryan coach Bob Bellard said Terrell will be a good fit at Mary Hardin-Baylor, where the running back can make an impact early in his career.

"I visited and saw a great facility, a good learning environment and a program that competed every year where I'd have a shot to play and develop as a young man," Terrell said. "I wanted to be close enough that my family can come and watch me play."

In ten regular season games he had 255 rushes for 1570 yards, a 6.16 yds/carry average.

Thought it might be time to catch all my D3 friends up on the latest with RooCru:

[Page says he'll retire on June 30]

Athletic director worked to improve CCISD facilities
   JAVIER BECERRA, Caller-Times
    Published: January 23, 2007

Corpus Christi Independent School District athletic director Rick Page announced his retirement Monday, a tenure that won't officially end until his contract expires June 30. Before then, Page said he plans to carry on the duties he took over from Richard Avila in 2004.

"I will continue to be the athletic director and make all the necessary decisions," the 57-year-old Page said.

Once his time is up, Page will go to work for AssistantCoach Systems, a web-based athletic management software company based in Austin. Page said officials from ACS approached him about a position in December at the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association's national conference in Anaheim, Calif.

A week after returning home, Page received an offer.

"It's just one of those things that come up sometimes," he said. "I want to be clear that I was not looking for a job. I was fully intent on coming back. They made the offer, one I couldn't turn down. That's the way I'm going for now."

Page arrived in Corpus Christi after spending 12 years as an assistant athletic director in Bryan and immediately went to work on improving the district's facilities.

"One of first things we talked about when I got here were the scoreboards at our central sites," he said. "By the end of this year, we will have a new scoreboard and sound system at all six of our central site facilities, Buccaneer Stadium, Multipurpose Stadium, the baseball, softball and soccer fields and the natatorium."

Page also helped firm the district's transfer policies, which he said tightens up the transfer policies in CCISD and will prevent families from "school shopping" based on athletic programs.

Middle schools are now running the same schemes and systems as the high schools they feed into in all sports.

He signed the Aramark Corporation to do concessions at all central site athletic facilities which improved the revenue sources for the district and signed Titus Sports Marketing to research possible other revenues for the district including naming rights and scoreboard signage among other possibilities.

On a personal note, Page was especially happy to see the growth of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes presence in the district during his tenure.

Page didn't do it alone.

"I would not have been able to do anything without the support of the coaches, staff and administration, which is evidenced by the things we have done," he said. Page said the district has opened the position for applications.

Roocru, congratulations on a great career.  I know CCISD will miss you and so will the coaching profession.  Good luck in your retirement.  ;)

roocru,  You did your job and you did it well!  The pressures of the school business, being what they are, take it's toll over a period of time.  This new challenge will inspire you.  The knowledge and people skills you have honed over a long period of time will serve you well.

Since you will be living in Austin or the Austin area, UMHB will welcome your added support.  As if they need more help, the Cru has not been kind to McMurry football or basketball lately.

Good Luck!!!!

roocru

Bcal,

Actually the real kicker to the deal was that I can work out of my home in Bryan.  It's still only 85 miles to the campus tho'.     ;) ;D
