Josh, I talked with Dr Russell about the scheduling of the events for Homecoming, and he still thinks that the usual afternoon kickoff for the ETBU game and Homecoming festivities is most appropriate.  ;)

Can you arrange another schedule change?

Darn.  I actually didn't realize that was Homecoming weekend for you guys.  I'm outta luck unless somebody provides better lighting at HSU--can't miss the annual HSU/UMHB tilt.

I must say, the rest of the schedule does line up nicely for lots of football, though!

Bring the lovely bride and your daughter.  She can go to Homecoming, your daughter can enjoy Tipi Village and you can see the game!  Win-win-win!  ;)

Ralph, McM better have their 'straps' on tight, 'cause Huntington is for real, and AC is improving their program since they left the ASC...

Sure is good to hear some positive comments about my Roos !!   ;D

That was some defensive battle last year when Whitewater edged MHB.  As a St John's fan, I was pullilng for MHB for play off implications.  What is the early read on MHB in 07....thinking of the rematch in Wisconsin in October.   thanks..

My sources say that this could be the best or at least the fastest UMHB defense ever.  Key replacement slots are at Free Safety and Cornerback but high hopes are there for the replacements.

On another note, former player, grad assistant and then secondary coach Tony Salazar has taken a coaching position at his old high school, Dripping Springs.  Congratulations Tony.  Best of luck and we will miss you !!! Hope to see you at a game or two.

Roocru--

I ran into Coach Gage a few days ago, and he tells me that he has a group of roughly 40 recruits coming in in the fall--all of whom have deposited and are thereby committed to coming.  Strictly from a numbers standpoint, that's a strong group.

Definitely good news but I am not surprised with Coach Gage's recruiting skills.  His Texas HS connections are only going to make for better and better recruiting classes.

Has McMurry received permission from the NCAA to continue calling it "Tipi Villiage?"  I'm sure someone will be offended by referring to a tipi as a tipi! ::)

I wasn't aware that the rules pertaining to American Indian imagery extended beyond the athletic teams.  Though Ralph is the obvious authority on the subject, I'd be both shocked and appalled if Tipi Village went away.  And I'm a HSU grad--I can only imagine how my wife would feel!

Josh is correct.  The McMurry athletic teams have no mascot and are simply known as the McMurry women's basketball team or the McMurry football team.

The NCAA has no authority over the curricula and academic course on the campus.  The decision by the university to go without the mascot was in keeping with the various "stakeholders" in the organizations such as the United Methodist Church.  Tipi Village is a cultural outreach by the university.

In fact, the NCAA said that a hostile environment did not exist at McMurry, only that McMurry could not guarantee that one might arise amongst our fans or the fans of our opponents, and so our appeal was denied.

You know how the NCAA expresses that standard.  Gambling on NCAA athletic events does not exist, but they assure us that it shall not arise amongst its fans either

When I lived in Central Pennsylvania, a lot of people thought Joe Paterno was washed up.  He may or may not be, but he's still got his priorities straight.  Thought you all would enjoy seeing this, and good for Joe Pa!

Josh,

I agree with you, Paterno is a first class act. I had the opportunity to travel to Penn State on 3 occassions to take my son there for kicking camp put on by the Penn State Coaches. The place and people are first class and it is all due because of Paterno. The folks in State College love this man to death and he has done more for Penn State and State College than most can believe. He may be 80 years of age and had a few losing seasons lately, but he still has what it takes.

Does anyone know anything about the World Championship of American Football?  I saw there are 6 teams and they will play in Japan.  How many games?

crufootball

The World Championship of American football website is http://wc2007.info/index_e.html.

Congrats to Josh Kubiak on making the team, glad to see he will get to play again since he did not get to finish the Wesley game due to injury.

While he's anything but a saint, when JoePa leaves the scene, he'll be sorely missed, even if he never wins another game.
