Now, if they could just get Larry McGraw off the danged PA system!!  His "and the thunder rollllllsssss through the storm shelter" starts wearing thin after a while.  Almost as irritating as the "first down" crowd chant at Tiger Stadium in Belton! ::)

Lay off Dr. McGraw.  He's a good guy and given a lot of his life to HSU.

I saw the transfer QB for Hardin Simmons this past week at Coach Wartes' passing camp and he is huge.  I also got to see him throw and listen to the coaches talk about him and I would put my money on him being one heck of a player for the next three years especially in HSU's offense.

Actually, Mr. Bowerman, I know Dr. McGraw personally, as well, and he is a good guy, in fact, he's a GREAT guy.  We have occupied the podium at worship services together, and my daughter had him for New Testament.  I didn't say a thing in my post that I wouldn't tell Larry to his face.  However, due to the mandates of free speech on this board, short of personal attacks, the "lay off" comment is both unwarranted and inappropriate.  One man's opinion is another man's irritant.  Does that mean that either one is wrong or right?  No.  Just expressing my opinion.  And, I can assure you, my roots at H-S U run a lot deeper than yours, so just keep your "lay off" comments to yourself.  There's enough dogging on this board as it is, without any additional banter being invited.

You sure about that?

Josh Bowerman

You sure are sassy for someone who doesn't even use his own name.

My credentials in here are pretty well known.  As a newbie, you sure seem to be willing to take potshots at someone 1) you know nothing about and 2) is a HSU person!

I didn't realize this discussion venue was about credentials, but rather about an opinion about and an interest in ASC football.   Yes, I am an H-S U guy, have been since '71, but that doesn't mean that I believe everything about my alma mater is perfect, just as I'm sure you do not.

My comment about Dr. McGraw's "and the thunder rolls. . ." was not meant as a pot shot.  As much as I like and appreciate Larry, I personally believe that such comment is a "homerism" that is very irritating.  If it doesn't bother you, that's great - I don't mind in the least being disagreed with, but please don't minimize my ability to express my honest opinion.

With that, please remember that opinions are like noses AND officials' calls:  everyone has one and you're only as good as your next one.

All that being said, I'm a true-blue Cowboys fan, and it is extremely uncomfortable living in the shadow of UMHB - where we are few and seemingly far between.

Come on guys, Dr. McGraw is a fan and he evidently adds something to the games.  Everyone remembers him on the PA and your talking about it on post patterns.  I hope he is around for a long time!

Bill McCabe

I know Josh is an ardent HSU fan and I hate to see you mixing it up with another HSU supporter.  There are 8 other teams to do that with!!  :D

Like most Cowboys, if we can't find some outsider to fight with, we go to fighing amongst ourselves!  ;) I think we're ok, now!  Bring on the purple cru!!

UMHB and HSU ... apparently when it's Baptist v. Baptist, there's no quarter asked, none given (perhaps like what happens at their conventions?  ;)).

Speaking of Baptists, and just among the Baptist schools, in what order do you all think they'll finish (not to offend anyone except the illiterate, I've listed them in alphabetical order), and why:

East Texas Baptist
Hardin-Simmons
Howard Payne
Louisiana College
Mary Hardin Baylor
Mississippi College

This story is a month old, but here is an update on former Mississippi College defensive tackle Bryant Shaw and his chances with the Redskins this season.

1. UMHB 10 starters returning on offense, and incredible team speed on defense.
2. HSU Well coached and they play hard. Im not much for their offensive scheme but they can out athlete most teams in the conference.
3. Mississippi Has shown some improvement over the last few years, plus with the return of their QB their O could be dangerous.
4. ETBU Lets see what kind of JUCO transfers they get
5. LC I was impressed with some of the athletes they are starting to get in pineville
6. HPU Has some talent but they are very selfish and will hurt the team with individual play.

Next time you are inclined to "rant at a ref", imagine your game being canceled because you could not find a ref to do the game.
