I'm coming to the UMHB/CNU game. Anybody have ideas as to what I can do Friday night to get in trouble in Belton?

I think Wal-Mart is open until midnight!

Take in a high school football game...Belton, Temple, Copperas Cove, Killeen (Killeen High Killeen Ellison, Harker Heights HS).

The schedules are out on the various high school web sites.  All are less than a 30 minute drive from Belton.

I might do that.....or....how far is Dallas? Heck...the game isn't until 6 Saturday evening....I bet I can get a late check out at the hotel....head out Friday night and not come back until 4 or 5 am.

I think you can have a lot more fun in Austin than Dallas, and it's only a little more than an hour away from Belton.  Go South, young man!

Thanks for the input, Ron. Who knows, maybe I'll stay in Belton and enjoy small town Texas.

minni

just fly into austin and stay there friday night.  Go down to 6th street and you will see everything you ever wanted down there!!!!

6th St in Austin, huh?

will I make it to the game the next day?

Ron Boerger

The answer to that depends mostly on you  ;D

Austin would definitely be more fun as a place to stay, and if you've never been down here, Austin probably needs to be experienced, and from Belton to downtown Austin is just under one hour, with normal traffic.

However, Belton is a small town that does close up pretty early.  In Temple, 10 minutes away, you can at least find a couple of places where you can get something to drink besides Dr. Pepper, and has the usual bevy of chain restaurants:  Chili's, IHOP, and one locally owned (but overly expensive) steak house in downtown Temple.  Killeen, on the other hand, has pretty much all the amenities of a big city, because it has sorta become a big city.  A lot of places to eat, with a lot of places to imbibe, and their high school football is pretty salty as well.  Temple and Belton High Schools, both, are undergoing a bit of a slump right now, but if you're into small town football, the really small towns like Salado, Rogers, Cameron, Gatesville all play pretty decent football for their class.

I guess your attending the Friday night UMHB pep rally is out of the question. . .

If you want a real treat, something you don't get to see all the time, take in a 6-man football game on friday night.  That's a whole different world with offense galore.   Star plays at Buckholts on the 7th.  Buckholts is about 30 miles from belton, and the return trip goes right by Bum's if you need a beverage for the evening.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Buckholts... now that brings back some memories. I had a friend that was on the Badgers coaching staff for one year. Six-man is one wild ride.
