Minni glad to see you built up some Karma for times like this!  Last year I recall it was running low... :)

put some pads on the guy and have some football players chasing him and his 4.28 speed dont really mean a hill of beans unless he can get to the open field.

HSU had a guy that could run a sub 4.3 40 yrd dash and rarely saw the game field.  Im not saying this guy isnt going to play.  But when practicing against my former teammate when he was on the practice squad and the only time his speed was effective was in the open field and he didnt get there much.  Maybe this guy is different, but 40 times, as a former player, are way overrated.  Its all about the pursuit angles.
Nothing to ding your karma with your two arguments.  Those are valid points!

+1  :)

As I have become older (25) I have become more wise and have learned to pick and choose my battles, well that and I have been spending to much time at the golf course lately so not much time to post.  You going to be at the game saturday?  Talked to a couple players and they are frusturated with the indecisiveness (sp) of the coaches at the QB position.  As of last night still no decision had been made at that position either.  I mean I guess they could just flip a coin!!!!!!

Looks like Clint Bricker is atop the depth chart at QB.

I dont know the history of Daniels but everything I have heard says the guy is not just a fast runner without pads on. He also is one of the stronger players on the team and had some great games last year on the JV team.
I guess we will all see come the 15th.

I was talking to some friends last night and they told me that all three where still taking snaps in practice with the first team.  I can understand the frusturation.  I mean i wouldnt want to learn to cath three different Qb's or learn to take a handoff three different ways, or learning three different styles of a snap count.  I know the coaches will get things figured out and will get it all worked out, but I guess as a fan it is just upsetting.  HSU has three chiefs right now and they need one.  I guess the old saying to many chiefs not enough indians.

I was reading some of the older posts, and someone talked about the HSU secondary.  It has always been one of the weakest points on the team.  As far as the guys not performing in the scrimmage, with a lot of fresh faces on defense i expect neves and mistakes the first week or so.

I think that's a bit on the harsh side, Brad.  Pass coverage--at any level--is the hardest thing in football to do well and consistently.  HSU's had some real good DBs in the past--Will Galusha, Alex Hansen, Terrance Fryer, Will Wagner, David Rausch, Michael Fitzgerald, et. al.

Generally speaking, the guys that are the very best at this get scholarships to play DI and DII ball, because it's so tough.  It's true our guys are young, but Surratt and Morgan have played quite a bit of ball for the Cowboys.  The cupboard isn't completely bare there.

I guess to sum up my point, the secondary is generally the weakest spot on ANY DIII team--simply because it's so difficult to defend the pass well and consistently.  Any team that gives up less than 200-250 passing in a game is really doing a great job (assuming the opposition is balanced on offense, of course, and doesn't just run the ball every time...).

Those Burling brothers were pretty bad, though.   :) 8)

I wasnt bashing, i was just stating a point that generally the defensive secondary has been one of the weakest points on the team.  Alex and Will were great i played with those guys and im not taking anything away, I mean hell they were all-americans.  I'm just going to stop there before i get myself in any more trouble.  Only time will tell how they truely are.  who knows maybe i lit a fire and pissed someone off as they read this.

To pick up on the Quincy Daniels--4.28 40--conversation, I know Quincy personally and watched him at Belton HS.  I have no idea how that time was recorded or how accurate it is.  I do know he is very quick and very strong--and a great young man to boot.  I know he turned down Tarleton and maybe some other d2 schools to stay close to home and play at UMHB.  In high school his last 2 years Belton was way down and won few if any games so he did not get much recognition but still ran for lots of yards.  I think he will play a lot and do very very well this year.  He played some last year and had some yards in the last couple of regular season games, but mainly tore it up on JV. Behind Thrasher and Rollins it was tough to break in.  I can promise you Quincy is a football player not a curiosity--plus a really nice young man.

As most of the posters on this board know, I was a high school coach and athletic director in Texas for 35 years before retiring last June.  One of the reasons I retired was because of an offer to go to work for an internet based athletic software firm named ACS Athletics (AssistantCoach Systems).  I am in charge of the high school sales and support division of our company.  My primary task this fall is to work closely with the Texas High School Coaches Association to develop a web site sponsored by my company and the THSCA.

That web site is called Pressbox (www.pressboxservices.com) and will be available to the public beginning this Friday night.  It is a site which will have searchable team and individual offensive and defensive statistics, individual and game action photos/video and updated media links to the teams and players you list as a favorite.  All of this information is being inputted by the Texas high school coaches themselves.  This site will also serve as a way to update data to the Fox Sports Friday night live TV show called HS Scoreboard.

Basic information will be free and full access to all data will be available for a subscription of $9.95/month.  The THSCA will receive a large portion of the revenue to further their efforts to support the high school coaches in Texas and each school will receive a rebate for every subscription that lists them as the team of choice.

This web site will only get better and better as the season goes on and I would urge all who view this to check out this great source of information on all the high school football players and teams in Texas.  It should also be a great source of information for those who are interested in the recruits we hear about for next year.

Also, lest anyone wonder, I did clear this with Pat Coleman before posting.  If you have any questions please send me a PM and I will be happy to answer.
