Ralph,
Although your observation about Sully is true, Don't you still think that HSU and MC are going to be better than the Lobos? I sure would. Sully's Defense has been even worse/ or as bad as MC's in recent past, although that Big D-line was better last Year.

I will go with someone else's assessment of SRSU's defense after only one weekend of the season.

Mississippi College is in good shape.  They can get another South Region win versus LaGrange and they catch both HSU and UMHB at home this year.

HPU fans, I don't have access to the HPU media guide, either print or online.

So, what year did HPU beat Prairie View A&M?

Thanks

I'm thinking championships for the Cru, one conference, one national.  To everyone else in the conference, sorry, but the sad truth for you is that you are all playing for 2nd place.  The cru will be dominating this year behind an offense with veteran experience, a defense that will feature one of the best players in the country in Jerrel Freeman, and a coaching staff that is unrivaled in division 3 football.  Speaking of coaches, we all know that Pete Fredenberg is the Charismatic leader that makes it all happen for the Cru, but what about the guys behind the scenes, the guys coaching thier tales off that you never hear about.  Defensive coordinator Larry "the hitman" Harmon is one of the best coordinators in the country, and he has a staff behind him that can back up the swagger that his defense plays with.  After losing all world coach's in Tony Salazar and Layton Lively after last season, the Crusaders new defensive ends coach, and former ASC Defensive player of the year Keith "Spelunker" Zunker (they call him that cause he always finds the light in the darkest situations) will have the defensive ends playing with a velocity that will have every opposing QB in the conference begging for mercy.  Coach David "ODB" Branscom will boast what is quite possibly the best linebacker corp in the history of Division 3 football, sorry, he breeds great players; and Marvin Agnew, the DT coach is the toughest ol' man you will ever meet, his players resemble his demeanor, they eat steel for breakfast so QB's shouldn't be a problem.  Watch out for Senior defensive end William DeWease, returning from an ACL injury last season, he should be in for a huge year.  Thats a little on the Crusaders Defense, the offense will follow a little later!!! GO CRU, Bring the Ships In!!!

It was 1998.  The had ESPN there.  It was Lee Corso, and he said that they were going to stop the nation's longest losing streak against Howard Johnson University.  The HPU beat them.

I heard this, and keep in  mind this is 4th hand information that McM looked slow at the game.  What do you think you were there?

CruAlum90, that is what I am talkin about.  If they want to be the champs, beat the champs.

You are cordially invited to make that statement on the Minnesota IAC (St John's, whose coach is the namesake of the most prestigeous award in D3)  and the OAC (Mount Union and Larry Kehres who has more National Championships than Coach Fred has ASC championships) boards.  :D  ;D  :D

I second that (e)motion, CruAlum90. Zeal for one's alma mater is what makes college football and DIII so special.

I think the Cru has the potential to have a very special year. The Purple CRUsh train needs to set the pace and open with a good head of steam this Saturday against CNU.

Ummm.....I don't remember Howard Payne playing Prairie View A&M, Ralph.  I remember Hardin-Simmons playing them in 1998, and winning, I believe, 42-14.  :)

Howard Payne played them twice with HPU winning the first in 1998 and Prairie View winning the 2nd one at home the next year after the streak was already broken.

I only remember it because I was at HPU at that time.  But I don't remember ESPN actually being there like Sender said.  I know it was on ESPN but I don't remember cameras or any of their reporters.

Sender

It showed the highlights of that game of ESPN, it was like a feed from a local TV station, but showed that RB at the time on there.
