Doin well yessir.  Still in Conroe (actually live in The Woodlands now) and coaching linebackers at Caney Creek High School.  We are 1-1 so far this season.  We have the ability to have a good team, but are still a looong way from being there.  But that's why the season's as long as it is.  How are things with you man?  You're wife gonna come back to Caney Creek like she did last year?

I got the full scoop about the game from roocru and was happy to hear that the CRU rolled through their first game at home.  This is probably the best start the CRU has had that I can remember since maybe 2001 at Belhaven, MI.  Hope they can keep it going!  Sounds like the defense still has its speed and the secondary may be a little bit of a week spot with some new positions, but nothing that Coach Harmon can't fix I'm sure.

It's also interesting to hear of the new "no huddle" offense.  If you'd have told me that we'd be running that when I was still playing I'd have told you you were crazy.  But it's also fun to see that we can change things up a little and give the defense a few more things to look at.

Get after 'em CRU!!!

Just a side note on Quincy Daniels---

I was actually student teaching and coaching at Belton High School when he was in his junior offseason, and I can verify his strength and speed.  He is a great athlete.  I witnessed a 620 lbs deadlift and a 520+ in the 181 lbs division at a powerlifting meet.

I also coached against him when I was at Harker Heights and although we squeaked out a win, his play was phenominal (offensive line was well below average).  Speed, quickness and power were there, but I think his best attribute is his balance.  He seemed like a human pinball bouncing his way through our defense while keeping his feet.  I think he will be a great asset to the Crusader offensive attack this year and more to come.

I see that Mike Flynt of SRS did not play in the easy victory for the Lobos. Does anybody know anything on him? Any chance he see the playing field?

yessir

I'm not sure if she will be coming to that area this year. She leaves tomorrow towards the Dallas area. 2 weeks without the wife around is going to rough, i might starve. LOL The defense is amazingly fast. The deep ball can be a problem, but like you said, Coach Harmon will get that under wraps. As for the offense, once they get used to the system, it will be really hard to handle. I actually seen a 4 wide set saturday, which i never seen in my 4 years of playing. However, we are still very good at running the option so that will always be a weapon. I hope you get a chance to make a game this year, it would be good to catch up. i wasn't able to make it to Alumni weekend, did you make it?

Ditto on 39's excellent comments now a ways up in the thread.

Starting 0-2, could be a tough pill to swallow and honestly wouldnt surprise me.  The HSU nation could be having a tough year.  Rebuilding??  Thats a tough word to use but if we can not pick a QB then what else can you expect.  Dont want to hurt someone's feelings so we are going to play them all???  I think this idea is crazy.  As far as running an option on 4th and 10, you never know that may have been our option running QB in the game!!!  Good luck to everyone this weekend, and here is to hoping HSU can get it going in the right direction and getting to 1-1.

He takes after his dad, Ralph.   ;)

The Daniels thing still really perplexes me.  It's obvious from the reports I've gotten that the kid is one hell of a player.  With attributes like that, though, I have to ask why the hell is he at UMHB and not at UT or TAMU?

There HAS to be a reason.  Kids like that don't start out close to home just becasue they want to stay close to home.  Austin and College Station are both close to home.   ???

We have had ASC kids go to D-1.  HPU's Khalid Naziruddin LB/DB went to Texas Tech earlier in the decade.

I was under the weather this weekend so I am a liitle late to the fray, but myself and several ten's of others (heck, we don't have that many posters yet) have your back Ralph.

CruAlum39, welcome to the Woodlands.  My wife and I are regulars at the WildWings in the Woodlands.  I know you are busy since it is the middle of the football season, but if you have a night off or at the end of the season, email me on or offline and my wife and I will buy you and your wife/girlfriend a drink and a few wings one night.  It is always good to meet some fellow ASC fans.  Heck, we haven't seen a high school game in a couple of years, I will look up your schedule and have my son come down too and will see your school play.  I think you and my son probably bumped heads a couple of times.

Proud, you cannot imagine how much difference the new scoreboard, 7 pm start time, the tailgaiting and the new atmosphere on campus have made.  One set of parents, whom I have known for 10 years, was very impressed.

The HSU game will be at night.  It just might be SRO that evening.

CRU Alum 39-  nice to see another former teammate turned coach not teaching and being a regular on the message boards.  Im glad you have some common sense because some of the others representing UMHB dissapoint me in the forum.

As far as guys playing d3 and not d1.  UMHB had shawn roshawn that left and played at Baylor for a couple years.  I "heard" that quincy turned down a couple bigger schools because he wanted to stay closer to home and i would personally rather go to a smaller school and WIN vs. going to the bigger schools and continually loosing.

Mike Flynt from SRS was on the IR the last time i "heard".

Good Luck CRusaders vs. SRS.  I have a feeling the CRU Defense will be doing a little bit of blitzing to slow down that SRS offense.  Im just glad im not that QB!!!

Congratulations to McMurry WR Dusty Thornhill.

Dusty has 8 receptions for 96 yards and 3 TD's in 2 games into his senior year.

This gives him 106 career receptions to tie for 9th (114 gets him 5th place all-time).

He has 1,718 receiving yards which places him 4th all-time (1,792 gets him 3rd).

IMHO, Dusty has as fine a set of hands as anyone in the ASC.

Ralph, I've heard conflicting stories.  Is Burt Green playing or not playing for the Indians (sic) this season?

Ralph Turner

Yes, Bert Green is playing.  He had a booming 57-yd punt in the 4th quarter that temporarily stalled AC, and ran for a first down on a 17-yd fake punt in the 1Q.

He also caught 4 passes for 22 yds.

proudmcmdad

I am not Ralph, but your question made me curious.  I was told over the summer that he would not be back.

The stats show he has run the ball 2 times for 19 yards and caught the ball 5 times for 39 yards.  Punted 7 times and kicked off 2 times.  Also 2 tackles, I am assuming on the punts and kickoffs.

I have to second Ralph, Thornhill is a top notch receiver, one of the best in league.  Not the fastest, maybe not even the best hands, but has the ability to catch the ball wherever the quarterback throws it.
