Meant to add that based on my summary of his activity for the first 2 games, we need to get him the ball more.  He has the speed and game breaking ability to win us a few ball games.  He is one heck of a punter also.

HSU'ers,

Well this game would probably have more hype if we were both 1-0 but I think the fact we're both 0-1 makes this more a "must win" for both teams.  Hope you enjoy the visit to the PacNW.  The weather calls for partly sunny and "nice" with a high of 76.

WC11's favorite places to eat in McMinnville:

Golden Valley Brewery is a great choice and right off of 3rd street in Mac (downtown).

Hotel Oregon is also a cool place.  Food isn't as good as GVB but they have a great rooftop bar and other fun places to enjoy refreshments

Wildwood Cafe has a great breakfast but you have to get there early before the crowd hits.

Few things to do if you get in early:

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum.  Awesome aviation museum and it's home of the Spruce Goose.  There is also a new IMAX theater.

Spirit Mountain Casino It might be a bit sad statement that with all of the beauty in Oregon that Spirit Mountain is the largest tourist point in Oregon.  It's only about 1/2 hour drive East of McMinnville.

Yamhill Valley Wine Bars  Pardon the expression but you couldn't swing a dead cat in Yamhill Valley without hitting one of the many Wineriers in the area.

proudmcmdad--  thanks for the welcome.  I have also frequented BW2 a few times in The Woodlands.  We need to do that sometime soon.

I'll send you an email when I get a chance, but right now, contrary to popular belief, this coach will be teaching an ecology lesson in about 2 min!
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

It's HSU Week at the Catdome......welcome to all you HSU fans traveling to the Pacific Northwest, we look forward to hosting you for this Regional battle.  Hopefully you enjoy your trip and are able to spend a little time seeing our beautiful part of the country.  Stop by the Tailgate area, if you have a chance, prior to the game and introduce yourselves.  I'm sure one of the other Cat posters, more computer literate than I, will send you a map of the location of the Tailgate area prior to the game but it is a very short walk from the stadium and has good parking if you get there early.

Good luck as you travel this week and we look forward to sharing a bit of D3 hospitality with you!

Cru39, just let us know the time.

We will wear our McM shirts so you will know who we are, and heck yeah you can wear your colors too.  Like I said I am proud of McM first, but like the whole ASC.

I must confess that I was the only poster in the Pickems contest to pick CNU to beat MHB last week.  I am glad I lost, that was a really big win for the ASC and MHB.  I hope MHB runs the remainder of the season for a number 1 or 2 seed in the tournament (OK, I will be cheering for McM to win in a couple weeks and you get seeded number 3 or 4).

Daniels is just a good guy that wanted to stay close to home and win a handful of rings. He probably could of went to bigger schools, alot of people that play in the ASC could of went to bigger schools, but i wouldn't trade my life at UMHB for the world. Some people just "love" a certain school. I think that is the case with Daniels. Me personally, i would rather go to a D3 school and play for 4 years and win 4 rings, than go to a D2, D1 and ride the pine for 3 years. Then possibly play my senior year. Teams such as Texas and TAMU are just stacked solid with talent. Baylor, you will not be overly successful. There's few other choices that are close to central Tx. Why go to school 3 hours away, when you can win championships in your home town. I wouldn't trade in being successful, just to go to a larger school. Just my .02
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.

Good guy or not, that's really a weak suggestion, yessir.

Maybe it's my feeble HSU education speaking, here, but I'm pretty sure I'd trade the significant student loan debt most ASC players end up with to play at member schools every time for an option that would completely pay my way to get an education and play football at the same time.

That's the kind of speed and strenghth it sounds like this kid has.

Josh is right...

He can play very good ball at D-2's ACU (3 hours) Tarleton (2 hours) and still get a full ride and playing time.

We don't know his FASFA, so he might be getting a better package than we know.

Correct--nor is it our right to know.

Given their institutional profile and the fact that UMHB's endowment was listed at about $55M in last year's VSE report, I'm pretty sure there aren't too many full scholarships floating around--for need or for academic merit.

I would add, however, that I don't know how many full scholarships the DII's Ralph mentioned actually offer--one of the ways those schools typically stretch the number of scholarships they can give out is by giving partial awards to kids.

But a kid with 4.2 speed and 600 pound squats is going to get a DI offer or offers.

Josh , you get in where you fit in.  He will get an education and win a ton and have fun.  You have to ask him why he did what he did.
Nothing wrong with going somewhere you can win and have fun.

Look at the Freeman kid who went to ACU from a&m, he had full ride with the Aggies and went to ACU and ended up with student loans but played and had fun.

I do not see anybody beating UMHB for a while.  I mean why not go and have fun.

How did Jerheme Urban of the AZ Cardinals get over looked also?  He came from a losing h.s.  That could have been the reason also.   Nate Jackson of Menlo.

Josh Bowerman

I assume you're referring to Colby Freeman--whose father was my high school coach and whose brother, Kirby, plays QB at the University of Miami?

Colby transferred to ACU because the Freeman's have family history there--I know his dad played with Wilbur Montgomery on ACU's national championship team, and think his grandparents may have gone there as well.

Urban didn't even play WR until college, so that's really not a valid comparo.   Not to mention that his stats, while good for D3, weren't the sorts of numbers Daniels is putting on the board.

4.2 is world class sprinter speed.

Say that three times fast!   :)

fellows,
EVERYONE plays d3 for some reason.
If this UMHB kid really squats 600 and runs a 4.2 then maybe he has the no ability to change directions. even then someone with big money would take chance on him and Scholarship the kid. Or maybe he is about 5'4 and weighs about 140 lbs. There is very little chance this kid fell through the cracks. I know  of a QB in the ASC that is about 5'8 or 5'9 and shot puts the ball when he throws, and is a lefthander that went to a D1 or 1AA school and supposedly has stats and was on scholarship. Now he cannot start for his D3 team and they are facing a rough pill to swallow when they probably become 0-2 for the first time in forever this weekend.
So there is MONEY Somewhere in this football playing country for a kid who legitimatley runs a 4.2 and squats 600lbs.
I have to agree with this Josh Bowerman character on this one, paying off 30 years worth of loans to play in the ASC and get a ring wouldn't make sense to anyone.
Even if Fredenburg, has those full "presidential leadership" scholarships that he has the power to give out at his discretion to the "best potential student" that he might come across, (this allegedly used to happen at Trinity in the past) i still dont think a kid would turn down a ride somewhere else.
