Josh, I don't consider you a character!!!  :D

4.2 is world class sprinter speed.

Say that three times fast!   :)

don't know if he runs it that fast...but he runs the 40 faster than any CNU defender!!  ;D

Congrats to Kyle Pope on his record tying performance, even though it came in a loss.

I do not know any of the particulars about Quincy Daniels--his speed, his squat, or his financial aid package.  I do know Quincy, personally, however, and as I stated before, I believe he had the opportunity to play D2(are any of you sure it is a full ride--probably not?) but chose the following:

1. Play at home in his home town.

2. Go to a Christian school.

3. Play for outstanding coaches and a winning (understatement of the year) program.

Also, I know Belton was not very successful his junior and senior years and he is maybe 5'9" 190 or so. Frankly, I think people get overlooked ALL the time. The measurables always beat production in recruiting every time, IMHO. If not, how do these former walk-ons at D1 schools end up starting and getting full rides at big-time schools(Nebraska, et al.)?

It does happen. I honestly do not know anything about UMHB's financial aid program or that of any other D3 school for that matter, but if the implication of some of you is that if he is that good UMHB must be cheating--that is (to put it politely) ludicrous.

... ludicrous.
Hmmm...a correctly spelled usage of the term "ludicrous".

Was it:

1) his HPU education?
2) using and guessing correctly on the options provided by Mozilla Firefox, the browser?
3) blind luck?
4) "red-neck" unfamiliarity that this is the homonym of the rap star's eponym?

:D ;D :D ;)

I may be wrong here, but I do not believe anybody has said that UMHB is cheating.  The question is how does a guy that is supposedly this quick and this strong slip through the grasp of the DI or DII schools?

UMHB is a top notch program with excellent coaches!!!  I just hope HSU can keep up!!!   ;D

Rick Akins

Either 1, 3 or 4, Ralph--probably the blind luck part.

Someone once said "if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'!"   ;)

Don't get your knickers in a twist, Rick.  It's just so rare that a kid with this type of ability starts out at the DIII level, I think it warrants significant conversation.

talking apples and oranges here, but when I went to MHB the 1st time in 89, I had an RA who had pitched for the Crusader baseball team ( I say crusader here because we didn't become the CRU for nearly another decade  ;D).  He had been offered a scholarship to play ball @ A&M, but decided to take a much smaller scholarship and play @ MHB.  He gathered some debt, met his future wife, graduated and went to work for NASA.  Sometimes things other than money play into a decision.  To further illustrate, another friend of mine was 3 time state champion wrestler in Montana.  He was offered a full ride to wrestle @ Iowa.  Instead, he moved to Belton, played a little shortstop and pitcher for a season.  It just happens sometimes that the small school is a better fit regardless of money.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

While Brett Elliot leaving Utah to go to Linfield is not exactly the same as the Daniels situation, here is a case of someone leaving a full scholarship on the table to play two years of DIII ball. I personally know one UMHB player that was recruited by a DI progam (Air Force), but he chose the CRU for the same reasons already mentioned: stay close to home, attend a Christian school, be a part of a winning program. I am sure there are many other DIII programs that have players that could be on scholarship at DI programs.

As far as Daniel's strength and speed are concerned, I think CNU85 hit the nail on the head: "Don't know if he runs it that fast (4.2)...but he runs the 40 faster than any CNU defender!!"

I am sure Daniels has his reasons for being at UMHB. The bottom line is he is wearing the Purple and Gold of the CRU and I, for one, am very grateful.

Daniels got a lot of local scholarship from the community his senior year at Belton.  I was at that awards ceremoney and his name was called around 10 times with several of the awards being for substantial amounts.
UMHB Alumni, life long Cru finatic.

I guess we ASC fans should just talk about how good this kid is on the local newspaper sportsblogs around the state in towns like Nacogdoches, Stephenville, Wichita Falls, Abilene, Kingsville, Huntsville, San Marcos, Commerce, etc.  ;) ;D

As far as great athletes slipping through the cracks, I think the ASC has seen many of them. Just to mention a few......
Preston Meyer.....no explaination needed
HSU's Proctor....he was quite a gun slinger, don't see why he couldn't of got a full ride somewhere...
Jeff Oliver....beasted everybody
Elex Reed...who has been wrecking havoc in AFL2.
Shaun Williams....
Jerrel Freeman....
Eric Henri.....
Shaun Rochon....who transfered to BU and played.
ETBU's punter....
Chad Starnes
Justin Bryson....the best running back i've ever blocked for...and i've played with some good ones....(Selvin Young, Lawrence Vickers.....)
Freddie Rollins....
PJ Williams...Even as a grandpa he was wreckin shop on the D3 nation
Lance Moore...would of fit well in a system such as Boise State
Last but not least....Matt "Fumblin" Maskosky (sp)....many were expecting him to go pro.

The list can go on and on. Alot of it has to do with media exposure, as well as team success when coming out of HS. There is alot of athletes that play sports in the ASC that could of had "rides" somewhere, but chose to play D3 football. Alot of them want to go to a small christian school and win championships.

Depending on grades and FAFSA results, someone could attend UMHB and not have to take out any loans, I know this for a fact. Some could even get money back. Everything has to fall in line perfectly but it is possible, like I said, i know first hand.

As far as everyone doubting the guys stength and speed. I think CNU85 cleared up the speed ordeal. As far as the strenght....check this out.

You will see Quincy Daniels, in the 2006 State powerlifting meet with a squat of 625, do you doubt the strength now.

I can also say that the UMHB coaches do not "doctor" times or lifts. The test results are used to plan out the offseason for the particular athlete. If the time/weight is not accurate, the athlete will either not have to work hard enough, or not be able to obtain the goals set forth for him. So I don't think the coaches would "doctor" the time. Needless, to say, the guy is both fast and strong. All I can say is, i'm glad he's on our team. GO CRU!!
