how good was UMHB's #5 as a Safety?

Mackovick thought he was good enough to start a few games over some D1 players. That's good enuff for me!

Sorry guys, MHB is good but they can't play with a Div 1 school, 7 on 7 flag football yes.  A real football game no way.  D3 football has some (quite a few actually) great athletes that are great football players and play some great football because they have some great coaches and at the end of 4 seasons of D3 football are a heck of a lot better football player than when they came out of high school. But they are generally a little shorter, a little lighter, and a little slower than the same position athlete in the higher divisions (D2, D1).  Even if a D3 school has a couple of D1 size and quality athlete, they don't have a whole team of them.
Can a top tier MHB or HSU beat a poorer quality D2 team, absolutely.  Can they beat Baylor, not a chance.

The closest thing in comparison that I can think of is the High School State 7 on 7 tournaments.  Class A and 2A schools have beaten even top ranked 5A schools, but I am pretty sure not one of the Class A/2A coaches would not even think of scheduling even a poor 5A school because they wouldn't have much of team left after the game.

Well, they let you into Rice, Bill.   You have that to fall back on, at least.  :)

I would like to know what I said that deserved the smite from somebody and who did it.

I don't think anybody is trying to take one thing away from Josh Kubiak--especially not me.  I think he was the most outstanding DB in the ASC last year, hands down.  He personally ripped my heart out with the punt he blocked against HSU last year.  I hate the guy as a HSU fan, but respect his ability a lot as a football player.

But to dog me for questioning whether he's "the best" or not?  That ain't right.

Jordan Neal was the best QB in the ASC last year.  Jerrell Freeman was the best LB.  Josh Knox was the best OL.  And so on and so forth.  Football is way to much of a specialized game to single one player out as simply being "the best" in the conference, IMO.

I think UMHB is successful for several reasons. The system they are brought up in helps them want to be successful. Whenever a student comes here as a freshman, and wins 10 games and has a run in the playoffs. He is obligated to live up to the expectations his sophmore year, and so on. No class wants to be the class that had a bad year. Therefore, they work hard every summer, and every offseason to be the best. They are always trying to make the team better. Its hard to impove on a 10-0 season, or a 9-1 season. Whereas other schools in the conference, for instance Sul Ross last year, can go 5-4 and win Co-Coach of the year. The expectations for UMHB are very high, therefore the plays have to play to that caliber or the coaches wont let them play. UMHB is stacked in talent, if a person isn't performing there is ussually always a very good replacement right behind him waiting to see the field. "Put out or get out mantality"  I also think that UMHB has more athletes than most teams in the conference, however, even the most talented teams don't always win. If you don't have someone leading that talent into the right direction, then the talent is wasted. ETBU for instance, whenever I played I used to think ETBU was one of the most talented programs in the ASC, as well as HPU, however could never seem to transfer that talent into a dominate run in the ASC. Also for the record, the white boy that wore #5 for UMHB, is the fastest white boy ive ever seen. Not only that, he wasn't afraid to knock someone's head off. I definately didn't enjoy blocking him.  He is in the Top 5 all time in the conference in my book. Not only a good football player, but a great guy. He will be missed.

'Tis your opinion, used2b. You are entitled to it and can share it whenever and wherever you want. And, because it is such a subjective observation, there is little anyone can say except that they disagree with you (I for one do). That being said, one thing that "some" posts on this site illustrate very clearly is that opinions are like feet, everyone has a couple and some of them really stink. Some are even infected with athletes foot  :).

I just read Josh B's post about "smites." Not that I care too much about my karma count, as you call tell by the fact I am under "par,"  but I think the ability to smite anonymously is really raw. If you are going to slap someone do so in a post or be man enough to fess up.

Josh, you made me laugh out loud, so I gave you +1 Karma.  I always enjoy your observations on the ASC.  Hope to see you in Abilene.

Then I got nicked twice!   :P

I'm planning to be there for the 10/06 game, Bill.  It will be nice to see you again and meet up with some of the other Crusader faithful.  As always, I'll have my camera in-tow.

Maybe all the ASC fans in the chat room here can get together for some pre-game group photos that day.

I did not say you smote anyone, used2b. My thoughts on Josh's smite, and smites in general, are  in a separate paragraph from my comments to you. The new paragraph denotes a new thought/subject.

Sorry for the confusion.

i except! Thanks. I didn't want to step on anyone's toes. I just wanted to remain a nuetral, good faith poster. It is a privilege.

By the way UMHB FAN IN CENLA. . . .
Dennis Dunn and LC had better look for a hole to hide in this year. I'm predicting a rough 2007 from those boys after the thrashing from Millsaps. Any word on how the EX-Evangel Coach and the Pineville-lites might turn out?
