I thought HS played a great game. They never gave up and they have a lot of firepower on both sides of the ball! I'll be rooting for them to beat MHB!

Just wanted to say what a great game HSU played against us yesterday.  Your program is excellent year in and year out.  You earned great personal respect from us last year  you when you thoroughly beat us.  It is good for DIII football to see lots or respect for many great teams get spread throughout the division. It's also good to play good teams we normally don't get to play.

You hit the nail on the head as far as no game breakers.  I will say that the if they had hung on to the ball it would have been an easy 2-3 td win.  Our offense will get better each week but you are correct about them having to keep our defense off the field.  The defense when rested is pretty good. We know its a rebuilding year but at least it is good to know its going in the right direction.   I would not be shocked to see this team go 5-5.

Ralph,
I went to that game in La college.  McM was the same as they have been for the past few years.

etbualum,

Thank you Cowboys for scheduling the Wildcats.....you played a great game and we well know how tough it is to lose a "shootout" (i.e. we lost one to Whitewater two years ago).  The game could have gone either way and you played us tough on our home field.

We have found it tough to get opponents to play in the regular season as most schools just say NO or don't return the phone call from the AD.

Thanks once again, it's now officially 1-1 until we meet the next time!

Have a great season and we wish you well against your rival UMHB.

Mr. Turner, look at this link http://www2.umhb.edu/sportsinfo/cfootball/mtcoach.htm and you will find it very hard to put Coach Parker even close.  Parker only has two state championships at the high school level and none at the collegiate level. Even with his experience at UNT he only won 4 games in 3 seasons (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/121306dnsposherrington.3355eb7.html). So it hardly seems fair to even mention that these numbers do not bode well for a Texas Lutheran Football program that keeps recruiting out of Houst and Deep South Texas when everyone knows that the playmakers are in Central, East and North Texas.  Look at UMHB's roster and where do the majority come from?  Central, East and North Texas!  TLU's new president would do well to look at how UMHB has built a brand that has given the university tremendous recognition at the national level that few in the ASC have ever attained.  Kids want to play for a winning program that has consistancy, and not one that changes coaches every three or four years.

I might be mistaken, but I believe both of the last two head coaches at TLU left of their own accord.  I do not remember reading anything about either of them being forced out by the President of the university.  I also question your statement that all of the better high school talent is only found in central, east and north Texas.  I would think that there are a few in the Houston area and south and west Texas as well.  Just because the majority of players on one D3 squad come from the areas immediately adjacent to their location does not mean those areas have a lock on the talent in Texas!!

I have coached on a team that won a high school state championship in Texas and I am one of a small minority of the total coaches in Texas that have ever achieved that.  I wonder if you realize how extremely difficult is is to be a head coach of a State Championship team in Texas HS football.  You do not luck into two of them!!
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

UMHB is recruiting within a 150-200 mile radius.

TLU is the closest D3 team for players in the Houston area (150 to 200 miles to the entire greater Houston area), and you are less than an hour away from San Antonio.

Where did Kenny Gransberry go to high school?  Houston Westside
Sean Salinas?  San Antonio Holmes
Jason Trahan?  Pearland HS

Those were quality football players for TLU, and out of TLU's back yard!

I think that you are being too critical of the TLU program.  A coach staying a decade at this level is the aberration.

Who is 3rd in longevity in the ASC?  SRSU's Steve Wright, who is in his 6th year!  The next longest tenure is only the third season for Mike Redwine and Norman Joseph.

I will take the talent in a 200-mile radius of Seguin, and you can have the talent within a 200-mile radius of Abilene.  Fair trade?   ;)

NO! NO!  NO!

We have HPU, HSU and McM within a 50 mile radius of that theoretical half-way point between Abilene and Brownwood.

There are playmakers all around-- north, south, east, west.

UMHB runs the ball.  Why do other teams in the ASC not run the ball!!!!!

You eat up clock, your defense is fresh.  Yet, all the other teams find that they need to throw 50 times a game.

Atomic Ross,

Some errors were noticed in your last post.  When did Sully go 6-4?  We both know that football is not a cash cow for a DIII school.  This year Sully gave up 482 total yards to UMHB, last year just 296.  Two years ago Sully just lost 6-27.  How can you say this was SR best performance in ten years against UMHB?

The last time I checked the stats, AD's don't make tackles, throw interceptions or get silly penalties.  Quit making personal attacks! (and excuses)  UMHB has a tremendous team -- give them credit!

Better luck to Sully at home vs. ETBU

I think many schools consider 100-plus tuition paying students a positive, especially since many stay in the school even if they don't play football.
