TLU was not an inferior team in 2005.  They knew how to take advantage of HSU's weakness and sent UMHB to the Stagg Bowl.

Just for a little FYI, UMHB went to the stagg Bowl in 2004, which is the year we lost to HSU in conference play and recieved a Pool C bid into the playoffs. Meeting HSU in the second round (No. 1 Seed HSU got a bye first round) and winning. Therefore UMHB sent UMHB to the Stagg Bowl, not TLU.

As for 2005, that is the year UMHB "coasted" through HPU and lost. The second hardest loss in my career, first being the loss to ETBU in 2003. That is the same year that an "Inferior" TLU team beat HSU. Let me hit on "Inferior".

At the time of the game..
.....TLU...........................HSU................
4-5.................................8-1................
Losses to.............................................
6-4 ETBU........................8-1 UMHB
7-3 HPU...............................................
3-7 SRSU......<<That being a big sign that they weren't as good as HSU.
9-1 TU that was manhandled by UMHB in the first round........
8-1 UMHB...............
The past rankings are incorrect and the 2005 ranking are coming up as the 2004 rankings so im not sure what the two teams were ranked at. I know HSU was ranked and TLU wasn't even close to being ranked. Therefore, I would say that TLU was the inferior team coming into the game. I would of put a ton of money on HSU to win, and i'm not a gambling man. Now TLU did in fact kind of help UMHB win the outright Conference Championship. However, if HSU would of won then I think there would of been a tie for the Conferene Championship between 9-1 UMHB and 9-1 HSU. Then they would of flipped the coin to see who got the Automatic bid, then the other probably would of gotten a Pool C bid. We all know how the NCA$$$$ is on that stuff.  UMHB being 9-1 with an impressive win over highly ranked HSU, yet a sore loss to a 7-3 team at the end of the game would of had a great chance at a pool C if they wouldn't of gotten the automatic. HSU, only loss being to highly ranked UMHB would of also been a good candidate for a pool C bid. Either way, UMHB is in the playoffs and TLU didn't really have anything to do with it. The win was beneficial to TLU, as they went 6-4 in 2006 and surely used the win over HSU as a recruiting tool and as offseason motivation.  Therefore to conclude my rant, TLU was an inferior team to HSU the week before the game in 2005. That was an upset, does anyone disagree other than tlugrad. As well as, TLU did not send UMHB to the Stagg Bowl, UMHB sent UMHB to the stagg bowl. Good luck this weekend CRU, take care of business!!!!!!!!!!!!!CHYEAH!!!

HSU in 2005?

Lost two QB's to injury at the end of the season.

Went 8-2.

Tenth-ranked HSU trailed McMurry 25-22 in the middle of the 4th quarter.

Eighth-ranked HSU lost to TLU.

If HSU had not lost to TLU, the Cowboys had the higher winning percentage in ASC games (HSU's 0.889 to UMHB's 0.875), and so HSU would have earned the AQ over UMHB (whose game with LC was canceled by Hurricane Rita).  UMHB would have gotten Pool C bid.

The second South Region loss to TLU (HSU using its 3rd string QB, if I remember correctly -- IIRC) gave HSU a South Region record of 7-2, which was not good enough to earn one of the 7 Pool C bids.

In 2005 and 2006, I thought that the ASC had UMHB and HSU and then the rest were in the proverbial middle, when one considers all of D3.  I don't think that we have had really "bad" teams in these last 3 years.

Ok, I remeber something about the cancelation of the LC game effecting the outcome of the championship. Both HSU and UMHB would of represented the ASC in the playoffs and knocked each other out atleast by the 2nd round, thanks to the NCAA's lack of money. (Yeah Right) I'm sure TLU used the win as a huge recruiting tool, I know ETBU used the 2003 win over UMHB as a huge recruiting tool as well as the playoff victory over TU. Nonetheless, my point was TLU 2005 was not as good as team as HSU 2005. All the stats point to that being true. If Jordan Neal doesn't go down at the beginning of the season, the Comboys would of done alot better. A winner and competitor like him would of came in handy in the last season lose to TLU. Good luck to everyone today, have fun. GO CRU!!!!

yessir, losing their QB didn't help in that 2005 game.  However, TLU had a very potent offense that year and played UMHB close.  I think they were better than most people thought and caught HSU at the right time and the right place.

my report from the locker room of that game was that HSU'S attitude was part of the problem.  it said the guys started getting cocky and taking TLU for granted
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I went to the UMHB-TLU game today and it was HOT!!!!  UMHB has great speed as usual, but they didn't really seem to be on their A game.  Neither did TLU.  Thrasher and Daniels are very fast and shifty.  They are a threat to break every play.  Josh threw the ball very well.

Not to mention TLU unexpectedly got back their QB who was quote a player for that game.

WOW....I am so disappointed in the HSU team....especially the defense...this was the first game that I have been to this season, and I have never seen an HSU team this poor...coaching was suspect, stupid penalties, etc....I'm afraid HSU is going to be in for a long year!!!

Here is the Around the (South) Region article that Ron wrote summarizing the 2005 HSU-TLU game.

kickhoe, they won.  41 points is pretty good.  The defense will probably get better.
