The month of October will be very telling for UMHB. Three road games against quality opponents will tell us everything we need to know about the CRU. A sweep would be sweet, but 3-1 would be tolerable.

Let's go Purple CRUsh... no looking ahead... one game at a time!

That's for chiming in CruAlum39. Its great to hear the truth from the guys who were on the field during the blow-outs.

I also don't agree with the comment that it is unfair to kids from McMurry if they get beaten badly and they learn more than the team that beat them.

Are the kids that start at MC or McM any more important than the backups at UMHB.  Why can't the 2's and 3's for UMHB play just as hard as the 1's of the other team.  To me, that is an unfair comment.   I don't think its very "classy" to tell your players, "Don't play as hard because we are winning."  Classless would have been keeping your starters in until late in the game.  And that was not the case.

The MC game is an example of how a game gets out of control.  Everything went wrong for MC and everything went right for UMHB in all 3 aspects of the game.  Sometimes as much as you try to control that as a coach, you have no way of doing so.  How did Coach Fred know that our 3rd team running back and 3rd team OL was going to go 70 yds to score on a weakside lead, a play designed to get 5 yds.  Maybe passing was the answer to keep the score down that game, because I know that UMHB still did not have an established passing game that year.

Judgements on class cannot always be made by the final outcome of a game.
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

If your starters can't stop a running team's 2nd and 3rd team players while their PASSING rather than doing what they do best... perhaps you should be mad at your recruiter or some coaches, and not the other opponent!

Running up the score?  Nothing but idiots who thank that.  We cant help it if our 2nd and 3rd stringers are better than your starters.  Get a clue people.  The Cru would score 80 on you if the starters were left in.  This argument has been going on for 6 years now.  Not once has UMHB ever ran the score up!

Can anyone comment on ETBU football?  I have been keeping up with the scores and they are 3-0 in conference so far.  I know they were picked to finish toward the bottom of the conference.  Is this just a case of not playing the good teams so far?

CruAlum39,  you make a great point about the number of snaps you played.  How fair is it for the starters to work hard all week and then not get to play but a few plays because they are so much better than the other team.  As a parent, it is disappointing to travel many miles to the game and then have your son sit out most of the game.  It is great that the team wins.  Football is not handicapped like horse racing and I hope it never comes to that.

There's some of that ... but the win in Alpine shows the team has improved since the start of the season.  The other two wins came at the expense of two teams that have a combined 0-9 record.   They have an outside chance at .500 but no more.

Ralph,
I have seen two McM games and look bad.  It is not running up the score they are just that bad.  Looking back they should have kept Coach Keenum.  Maybe he would have had his son QB for them.

...except that I cannot recommend that a kid with Pro prospects ( and being a starting QB at a D-1 school must be given that consideration) should turn down a D-1 full scholarship.

Now when you are not starting in D-1, and the football schedule is interfering with your education, then transfer to a D-3.

The next question that follows, Sender, is if McMurry is bad, what does it say for the quality of SCAC football?

Anybody know how I can get a copy of UMHB's two-deep?

Ron has a pretty good handle on where the team is.  They have gotten better each week, but they are still a little bit away from where they need to be.  I said I wouldnt be suprised if they ended up 5-5 and they can.  This weekends game with MCM is one that could go either way.  I think the LC game is the same.  They do have HSU and MC at home.  To win either of those would be a huge win for a young team and a new coach.  The UMHB game is as close to impossible as it gets right now.

Thats the bad news the good news is they only lose about 6 starters.  Robinson WR, Rucker, DT Moss, S Roberts being the key losses.

Josh, if you open this http://www.umhb.edu/athletics/news/6669, there is a copy of the two-deep at least for the McMurry game towards the end of the game notes. They will release one for the HSU game probably by tomorrow or Wednesday, once again towards the end of the game notes for that game.
