I was very disappointed with HSU's performance on Saturday. Their fans hardly made any noise, and it seemed their team just gave up in the second half. Sure they were playing a very dominant UMHB side which in my opinion will be playing for a National Championship on Dec 15th but it was a disgrace to see the team fall apart in the second half and made a mockery of slogans such as "the winningnest team in Texas" and "pursuing unchartered grounds" I guess they will be pursuing unchartered grounds this year, unranked for the first time in years and not getting to play in the playoffs, unless by some miralce they manage to win the ASC, and after watching the game on Saturday that is not going to happen.

Always nice to see someone make their initial appearance on the board by slamming an opponent.

I totally agree with this. We all kow that this is not HSU football, but the fans are usually good sportsmen! They are not used to what's happening to the football team this year, so Being the winningest team in texas is what they have to fall back on. They should understand that they are in a major rebuilding season and going 7-3 is not bad record consedering that they will lose 3 games to at one point 3 top 10 teams! Keep your heads up HSU!!! You can't be the best all times, sooner or later people will catch up to you, and UMHB this year is just way better. Last year I really thought HSU was better because of the athletes they had, but UMHB coaches did a hell of a job and on special teams. Godd Job uMHB and hope u beat the best in Wisconsin conference to let people up north know that ASC can compete with northern teams.

HSU needs to improve its speed on defense.  That has been where they have not matched up well with UMHB.  Offensively, they have always been a threat.

Totally agree and i assume recruiting efforts will reflect that.
I disagree. Well it depends on which side of the ball you are talking. HSU defense has always (besides this year) been faster that UMHB offense.Sure UMHB got big plays and it was because of mixed tackles or trick plays. HSU from the past were so quick that usually over ran the option or the sweep and the qb and good running backs jsut made great cutbacks. Last year I saw the corner from HSU run down Thrasher twice and the db'z were never beaten deep! Now UMHB defense has given HSU o problems because of disquises and the speed. UMHB has had some small d-linemen from time to time, but they were very quick and strong!Their whole front seven on d has been faster than HSU o-line. They run a great scheme against HSU. HSU usually at times tries to over power people with their speed by running the same plays. Even against UMHB they do not do anything different (Cocky) so UMHB has at least 5 to 6 games of film to see what HSU runs and what they are good at. But having more speed on o than HSU d (except this year) is pushing it.

I have to agree with HSWho on this one.  As great as team speed is and coveted on any football team, there is also something to be said about a team's physical play that can win ballgames.

I agree that UMHB has opened up their offense and it does encompass more than the option, lead, power, and option pass (that was our trick play ;D) that we ran in the good ol' days.  But I believe The Cru still sets out to overpower the opponent.   After all, that was and is always a part of our belief in winning games.  We are still a running, ball control offense.

Hence the win over HSU this week.  I was not there, but I'm sure UMHB's physical style started to wear down the HSU defense.  And while the HSU defense is on the field, UMHB's defense is resting comfortably on the sideline awaiting the next series.

I am not going to disagree that following HSU in conference play is not an advantage, but sometimes I think people take it for granted.  While UMHB does see them on film, we are still game planning for that week, not for HSU (one game at a time).  The big advantage is having quite a bit of game tape the week of the HSU game.  I think that's what you said aldl, not disagreeing, just talking.

And as far as HSU winning the '04 game in week 8...

They won because they whipped our butt from the offensive line back to the TB that day.  (And I say this from a player's standpoint)  Especially with the stinkin' counter.  Lance Moore was very physical and was given lanes to run.  That was not a good combination for our defense.  The HSU defense played physical enough to take away a large portion of our running attack and made us do things we did not want to do (throw the ball).  Then they took advantage of mistakes and capitalized on them.

YOU KNOW IT!!!!

thats what makes me mad about umhb. you dont hear them say anything about their team its always about how sorry their opponent was, and who the hell are you to say we're making a mockery of ourselves. God, get a freakin life and worry about your team and hsu will keep trying their hardest.  The cowboys are having an off year, so be it, take your immature trash talking somewhere else....or how about this...try to be supportive of a program thats rebuilding.  disgrace....ha is that what a lose is called now...a disgrace.  go get a life. even better how about having your name be HSWho...thats stupid.

aldl,  you must have watched a different team than me.  HSU did not come close to UMHB's team speed.  HSU was big and strong, but their defense as a unit was not that fast.  More speed will help, in my opinion.

I was at the game Saturday and do not believe that HSU gave up or lacked intensity. HSU was just out played by a better team.

HSUCowboy fan,

I fully agree that the post by crusaderforlife was worded poorly and not thought out all the way.  He is obviously a new poster and will learn or leave.  However your reply lumping all UMHB fans into a mold was IMHO just as bad.  I noticed your posting began in September of this year.  Unless you were a poster a longtime before this website was revamped,  you might not like to know that HSU fans have been guilty of similar posts in the past, especially when they were on top and the Crusaders were close but no cigar.  Fans of either school who make such posts are wrong!! (as well as other fans at other schools)

I would also suggest you look at your last 10 posts where you called someone a nerd, really blasted a columnist who tried to do a good job and fessed up to his mistakes, took a shot at another poster, used2b, and called the poster crusaderforlife stupid.  You may not have meant those things in a bad way any more than crusaderforlife, but not being face to face makes for some misinterpretations of some posts.

All I am saying is please don't make sweeping generalizations of all of a school's fans because you were upset with a single poster of theirs. Stooping to that level is not the proper thing to do.

Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

Go CRU, stay focused... one game at a time. Don't be caught looking ahead to the game on Oct. 27. And no hanger-over after a big win over HSU.

LC would love an upset. On television last night Coach Dunn commented that no one gave Stanford a chance this past Saturday against USC, but they won. He said another upset could happen in  Belton on Saturday.

If UMHB plays to its potential, this one is over at the half.

You know all fans everywhere say things in the so called trash talking arena in support of their team. Sometimes it makes sense to them to tear down another team in order to bring their team up even higher. I was at the game on Saturday at Shelton and I believe the hype was there in the first half when it was a good football game. Then in the second half when HSU held on the first possesion of UMHB and got the ball with a chance to make it a 21-24 game if they go score i noticed something strange. There was no REAL excitment from the HSU sideline or fans. I was sitting behind a parent of a player and I heard him very loud make the statement " for crying out loud you just made a great stop and have a chance to get the first score of the half. Where's the excitment?" I looked around and noticed there wasnt any. It was down hill from there for HSU. What sort of character HSU has will show when we see how they finish the season. They have some very young players and should be very encouraged with how they have performed to this point.(HSU) I would be more concerned with drastic change in play calling in the second half and wonder why it was called the way it was. (UMHB) I would be concerned about the fumbled snaps. I think the corners for UMHB are a little suspect. However, with the type of pressure they get up front it hasnt been exposed.

Its a very true statement that when you are reading the written word instead of hearing, things can be taken the wrong way. I think trash talking should be kept at saying how much better you think your team is than another. Not tearing down another team in order to make yours seem better. I hope that makes sense. I can remember yelling from my free saftey postion telling the QB that he better not throw over the middle or it would go back the other way. I would never have said you are a sorry qb and could never complete a pass. I hope everyone can understand what i mean. There is sportsmanship even in trash talking.

Well it has been a while since I have posted.  I haven't had much to post about this season.

I will say that I think HPU has decided on a QB.  Throwing for 500 yards with no Interceptions is quite an accomplishment.

HPU has lost 4 games by a total of 18 points and they were leading in the 4th quarter in all of them.  It has been frustrating as a  HPU fan.
