hpudad,

I agree it has been painful.  It reminds me a lot of last year after HPU lost to ETBU, SRSU, MCM, and TLU after having the lead late in each one of those games.

It seems as though they can't ever get the offense and defense on the same playing level from game to game.  If they find a way to do that they'll start winning some games.

Jason Lovvorn had a great game at QB last week.  It looks like he's getting comfortable with the offense and his receivers.

hpudad-

That is a great accomplishment indeed, but does HPU have the running game to compliment their fine passing game.  I think there is the reason that you have lost games in the 4th quarter is because you are not able to control the ball late in the game.  I have not seen HPU play, but with 500 yds passing, the running game was probably not very existent.  If HPU has been up in the 4th, a balanced running attack can keep the ball out of the opponents hands for much of the last quarter and be a defense in itself.  This may be what HPU is lacking in order to win close ballgames.  I'm all for scoring a lot of points on offense, but sometimes its not how many you score but how long you take to do it.

You're right HPU doesn't have much of a running game right now.  They had two freshman running backs last year that for whatever reason decided not to come back.  They would have done very well this year.  The top 2 or 3 running backs were hurt last week so they had to find someone to fill that void.

All that equals up to using the passing game more than you really want.

Roocru--GREAT POST.  I think at least two things were at work at the HSU/UMHB game this year.

First, UMHB is very very strong this year, and HSU is not quite as strong.  Second, I frankly just thought HSU was worn down in the second half by a better deeper team this year. No game with that score can ever be as intense as a close one. I saw no "quit"in  the HSU  team nor did I see any blatant frustration actions or attitudes by HSU as you sometimes see with scores like that.  This year, they were just beaten by an outstanding team.

HPU posters--how frustrating has it been--4 straight close close losses--I feel for eveyone as a HPU guy myself. They are obviously so close and need to get on a roll to close out these last 5 games.  Good luck to the Yellow Jackets these next weeks.

thrwdp--one response to your recent post. The way UMHB plays defense is always tough for the corners. They rarely get help from the safeties and are really on their own. When a guy can scramble like Feaster did Saturday, it makes it really tough.  I actually thought the pressure on the passer was not quite as overwhelming as other HSU/UMHB games recently--but maybe that was Feaster's ability to escape.

But having said that, UMHB gave up only 188 passing yards and had 2 INTs.  I think the corners can get it done--especially #14--Brett Parker. He has been very impressive to me this year both in coverage and returning punts. He can play. I understand he broke his ankle last year and missed the whole year. IMHO, he made the play of the game Saturday that no one is talking about--and I am not talking about his INT in the second half.

When the score was either 7-0 or 10-0, HSU was on the UMHB 10 or so and Parker on a corner blitz got to Feaster and stripped the ball and recovered it. It was a tremendous play and I believe but am not sure that UMHB took it all the way then to make it 17-0.

thrwdp--you are right about the fumbled snaps--I believe those all were with the second center and Welch--but still--that could really hurt badly in a different game. That must get fixed.

Here is an article from Jackon's Clarion Ledger about the quarterbacks from our three local small colleges (MC, Millsaps & Belhaven).

as hard as it is for me to do, and as proud of my college as I am, I am going to have to bite my tongue this year and just pray that we can get someone that can recruit the right players we need.  I think that is an area that may have been a little suspect at HSU.  This is just my OPINION.  Here is to hoping that we can salvage what is left of the season.

I can't imagine playing in front of a crowd like that.  Sounds like it was just dead from what I am reading and hearing.

I know players read this all the time, I know we always did when I played.  So what I have to say now goes out to all the current HSU players that read this.  It's time to go to work men and something Jimmie K always told us was "Hat's off to the past, and sleeves up to the future".  Its time to really roll the sleeves up because you are up to your elbows in it!!!

Congrats to Ralph Turner, on the front page of D3football.com. :)
Thanks, Pat, and thanks to Keith McMillan for capturing the essence of what Tipi Village and Homecoming means to the McMurry family.

This year was the 57th edition of Tipi Village.  I think that Dr Hunt, McMurry's founding president, would be proud.

Ralph Turner

Okay, HPU vs McMurry.

I think that this is the second most frequent series in the ASC, this being the 70th meeting.  The Jackets lead the series 44-23-2.  I think that the McMurry-SRSU series, which goes back to 1923, has seen more games.  I think that HPU-HSU is older, but with fewer games.  (Corrections appreciated.)

Actually, come to think of it, I think it's Keith's first time on the front page, too. :)

Wow!  Somewhere some fan is keeping track of appearances on the front page of D3football.com, just like SI!   :)

I think that MUC Head Coach Larry Kehres or Linfield QB Brett Elliott or MUC QB Chuck Pugh might be leading.
