I'll take a simple offense that generates 600 yards of offense anyday over one that turns the ball over 4 or 5 times a game.  How can anyone complain about the Cru's success in terms of wins and losses.  3 INTs certainly played into their loss against UWW.

Hello D O.C.

Paul Quinn College is a HBCU in south Dallas (on the former campus of Bishop College for you 1970's NAIA basketball fans) and a member of the NAIA.

They have not been able to sustain a football program, partly because of travel budget constraints and teams of similar quality.
Ralph,

It used to be a NAIA school in Waco.  I'm sure you remember back in those days.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Guys, how balanced was the CRU offense today?  Did we keep running the ball or did we give Welch a chance to throw the ball 20 times?  I think we have to be a serious threat through the air if we want to move deep into the playoffs.

I would have to say that it was a very UNIMPRESIVE win.  We were still running the option on 3 and long.  I was getting tired of the same 5 plays we seem to always run.  We never attack the middle of the field with the pass, and it seems as though we are content with how we play even though we struggle against tougher D's who stack the box.  I voiced my concern at the game and this lady said I was being too negative.

The fact is, we MUST be more balanced, we must attack the middle of the field, and we have GOT to play better 3rd down D.  We are great at forcing 3rd and long, but then we give up the big play.  It has been that way for a few years and nothing has changed.  I hope we make the change by playoffs.

They did try some different passes Saturday, but it was basically same ole, same ole.

I pretty much have to agree with Bill.....why are you complaining about an offense that works pretty darn well???   ???  UMHB had a rough game against UWW, but it sounds like turnovers were their downfall, not that they don't have an offense.

Good grief.....they did whoop ETBU 72-7, they did beat HSU pretty easily.  Be proud of your boys, they are going to go far in the playoffs!!!

fatboy

The Cru offense runs the same play over and over because it works on who they are playing.  I don't think they are arrogant enough to think it will work against everybody.

ETBU and UWW are comparing apples to oranges... really the whole conference is this year.  And where did a lot of the turnovers come from in that game- the passing game.  Whether it was because of UWW defense or UMHB not executing, the passing game was still ineffective against a team with a good defense.  INTs are part of ineffectiveness.

I hope the UWW game took care of whatever arrogance UMHB might have had.  That still doesn't change what I've seen in 4+ years of watching this team stick with the run, and the same plays, even when it's not working.  When you can pretty well predict that the next play will be either the option or running straight up the middle, that's only going to get you so far against teams with a high caliber defense, such as UWW, Mount, etc... and kickhoe, not complaining, just making observations  :)

Ralph, from your open dates list it looks like Trinity doesn't have anything that would match up with UMHB's gaps for next season, but do you think they'd consider scheduling UMHB in the future given their recent lack of success against the Cru and the likelihood of them meeting up again in the first round, thanks to the NCAA?  (assuming no pool C from Texas)
Why would a school schedule a team that might hurt your playoff chances if you coudl find another school that give you a more favorable appearance to the selection committee?

Every coach calculates his schedule with that strategy in mind.

For Trinity, TLU is a natural.  They are 40 miles apart, and in different conferences. Trinity can select its other non-conference foe strategically.  That is easy on the travel budget, easy on the time away from school and builds local interest across all sports.

I think that UMHB is stuck having to travel around the country to find games, until they are "knocked off the hill".   :)

The Cru ran a new pass play for the first time, that I remember this year. Josh rolled to right, then turned around and through the ball across the backfield to one of the running backs. It worked well, just a little new twist.

I figured as much Ralph... just wishful thinking for a competitive non-conference game that doesn't require flying halfway across the country.

I am curious TLU GOAT, do you believe TLU will be the one knocking off UMHB or do you believe it will be another ASC team?

I'm in DFW about to leave for Chicago.  Can anyone recommend a D3 school in Chicago I can stop by and buy a shirt from.  We are staying near Ohare and will be mostly downtown using public transportation.

Elmhurst College is about 15-20 minutes away just off the Tri-State.

University of Chicago is downtown.  Near Washington Park.  North Park U. isn't too far from there.

Aurora University is about an hour west O'Hare on I-88.  Wheaton is on the way out there.

Any lackluster performancesby a team so far?

Any surprises so far?

Most definitely.....the team is loaded with sophomores and juniors right now....just wait til next year. I will guarantee an 8win season, at least. You can save this and throw it in my face next year, if we dont.
