When you see UMHB running the option and running "the same play" over and over again, please realize that there are about 90 different ways to run and block the option, and UMHB runs just about every single one of them.  That takes A LOT of time to practice and perfect during the week.  You cannot be a great option team AND a great passing team, you have to be a little vulnerable somewhere.  Please keep in mind that coaches usually know a little bit more about football and their program than you do, so before you begin to be an armchair quarterback, do your homework.

I realize this and I like watching UMHB run the option.  Whe I go to a Cru football game I expect it to go relatively quickly because of the run and to be relatively boring (which, by the way, makes it difficult to help my girls love football :P).  I don't want MHB to be a great passing team, I just want to see more to the passing game than Josh heaving the ball up in the air.  The past few weeks they have shown there are other wrinkles that they have and I'd like to see some of them used.  My problem with the UWW game was that MHB came out doing things uncharacteristic of the team, like throwing long into the wind early, and made mistakes.  the only reason I wanted to see more pass in the last two games, which we did, was because it seemed that in-game passing was a little rusty and that could prove costly in the playoffs.  Truthfully, I'd rather see them line it up and run the ball down their throat.  I certainly hope to see that on Saturday.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

That's the football I like to see too.  Good' ol smashmouth, powder river baby!!!  Make em' like it.  I don't think enough teams in the college ranks do that these days.  Just because you can throw the ball, doesn't mean you should!

I just want to say congrats to UMHB and good luck this post season....man those are hards words for a Cowboy to say.  HSU has a long way to go on the defensive side of the ball.  Hopefully this is something that will be addressed with recruiting this off-season.
<BR>

Second of all I want to say congrats to Quinton Jones on a great senior season 1300+ yards this season with 18 touchdowns.

hsucowboyfan

just want to hit on hsu before everybody turns all their attention to umhb....rightfully so.  Quinton Jones had an unbelievable season 1356 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.  Also 100+ receiving yards with 3 touchdowns.....WOW!! Congratulations.  Mychal Carrillo also had a stellar senior year with 1000+ receiving yards and 13+ touchdowns.  Justin Feaster made a name for himself being only a sophomore, he was about 50 yards shy of 3000 passing yards with i think 29 touchdowns in the air and 6 touchdowns on the ground.  With players like this, you've got to give some credit to the o line....its obviously a team effort and these kind of stats cant be achieved with out some good blocking and protecting. Offensively speaking hsu had a pretty good year.  I dont have the exact end of the year statistics but the HSU offense averaged 41 points per game and a were few yards shy of 500 yards per game.   Things didnt go as well as hsu wanted it to but hopefully some weakness will be addressed this off-season and next year will look bright.  just wanted to say good job to these guys, because i know after a season like hsu had this year people dont really recognize or mention the good things, and these guys deserve some recognition. just putting my 2 cents in before all attention goes to umhb.  Good luck crusaders......and GO COWBOYS!!

Where's everybody at.....little quite this week.

Good luck to UMHB this weekend.  Hoping to see Roocru and Crualum39 in Salem in December.  Teams that have purple colors seem to find their way to the Stagg pretty regularly!!
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

I would just like to say that I am very excited that I will be attending the UMHB game with my father and hopefully one of our former fullbacks that graduated with me if his wife will let him play this saturday.  I believe this will be the first game I have seen in two years to the day.

I think I would rather be coaching in a game this week, but I don't see the UMHB playoff game being too bad of a substitute.

Roll Cru!!!

Can someone please tell me how a team that is ranked #4 in the nation by people who actually watch the games is seeded 4th in their own region.

Poll Rankings, like the D3football.com Poll and the AFCA Poll, are a subjective assessment.  It was the subjective assessment that kept the 1998 HSU football team home in the olden days before the pools.  We don't ever want to go back to that.

The NCAA Ranking process that applies to all sports, including the 2007 UMHB Men's basketball team, is about as objective as one can have, shy of the D-1 FBS Computer.

Alum39, looking forward to seeing yall at the game. It's been a while....... Congrats to Sully for getting to play another game. That experience should be a great for your football team. Nothing like playing football in December.....

I'm kind of glad UMHB was seeded so low. THis way if they do make a serious run this year, they will have to travel alot. In 2004 the Crusaders were dubbed the "Road Dogs" because of the 5 Road games that we had to play in route to the Stagg Bowl. I think this really helped our team be successful. After traveling for 5 weeks you get a routine down and your team grows together. Coach Fredenburg used to always talk about the comraderie (sp) of the team. UMHB's football team always has great comraderie. 5 road games in a row builds comraderie. Not to mention you get to each good food, go to the movies every friday night, and stay in really nice hotels (except for the one in Abilene that year, Coach Fredenburg had to cook us breakfast on saturday, and the pancake Syrup was more like Jolly Ranchers) but it was our "Good Luck" hotel. LOL I think 4 roads game to the Stagg Bowl will be good for the CRU. GO CRU!!!!

yessir,

where did y'all stay in abilene?  There are some pretty nice hotels close to campus, I'd hate to think y'all stayed at one of the dumps near campus.   ;D

crufootball,

National polls and regional rankings use completely different criteria.  The polls are a collection of individual informed opinions.  Regional rankings are a gathering of numerical data that is heavily weighed by record (specifically number of losses), and the record of the people you played together with those teams' opponents records.  Just like when the Cru dropped down in their regional rankings, there were few people who thought they should have been third or fourth in their region, but the numbers played out that way.

For those who didn't know Mike Redwine has stepped down as head coach at HPU.  The decision was made before the season so this years record had nothing to do with his decision.

HPU announced Monday that Steve Fanara, Defensive Coordinator, will take over the head coaching duties.  Here's the article in today Brownwood Bulletin.
Sorry for the long link.

Actually the HPU players were told of the decision by Coach Redwine the day before the TLU game.  I think the transition in head coaches will not be as difficult since Coach Fanara has been with the team for the last three seasons.  I wonder how much of the coaching staff will change?
