They just announced the 1st team all americans from D3 on the broadcast.  Jerrell Freeman and Caleb Woodall both made the squad.  Congrats guts

Congratulations to UWW.  That was a very good game.  I guess UMHB stacks up pretty good nationally.  Still don't really understand their being a #4 seed in the South!!!  ;) Still better than the BCS. ;D

Ok
Now that it's over.

How would Mount Union's O stack up against UMHB's or Wesley's D?
My feeling is that both teams would have to stop the passing game to be successful.

I think they would have had to contain the passing game.  How do you think Mount would have done against UMHB's running game?

I think UMHB could move the ball. Mount Union was stacked against the run and for the most part didn't  get many hits in the back field. But I think some of it was over persuit

The NCAA should tweak their seeding process.  Wins should count, but so should the quality of your opponent.  UMHB's only losses were to the national champions.  The regular season loss shouldn't have dropped them to a 4 seed.  I hope this is something they will consider changing.

 Bill
Looking at strictley the numbers I wounder where overall record and regional record come into play after the playoff teams have been chosen.
Wesley and Salisbury both  had better op, oops but only 6 and 7 in region games.  Muhlenberg and UMHB numbers are nearly identical sos no's, 10-0, 9-1 . H-S actually has better sos numbers than W-J and NCW and Trinity are a toss up.  So how do you weigh the SOS numbers against the win/loss records?  By all this, it looks to me  that W-J could/should be #5, H-S #6 because of 2 losses , NCW#7 Trtinity #8.
So it appears they had they same top five as I have and then who knows what they were using to seed them.

Bill, that is actually considered in the criteria and mathematically expressed in the OWP and the OOWP.

This is part of my constant "ranting" about scheduling in-region non-conference games in all sports in the ASC."

UMHB did not get any help from HSU this year.  A McMurry win over Huntingdon might have helped a little, and Mississippi College and LaCollege scheduled 2 in-region non-conference games.

Poor ol' SRSU could not find a 10th game, and TLU helped there, but TLU lost to Trinity in its other non-conference game.

I think that the inherent strength of the OWP and the OOWP will be maximized by those conferences and members who have 3-4 other in-region conferences within driving distance, and can play 4 in-region/non-conference games against foes that have decent winning percentages.  I would liken this to earning "interest on the interest".

Bill,
I think the only way to accurately seed teams like UMHB would be to add winning margin to the process, but that won't happen because it would promote teams running up the score on opponents. Seems like I have seen computer systems in the past incorporate scoring margin to a certain point.

I think the NCAA likes removing the subjectivity from their ranking process so they avoid criticism, if anyone argues with the rankings then they can point to the numbers. But  I think their decision this year to add the OOWP to the process shows they are always examining how they seed teams and are willing to make changes if warranted. I would not be surprised if they at least look at how a team like UMHB gets a #4 seed this year when they were the overwhelming pick as the best team in the south. Beating Wesley on the road only strengthens that argument.
