One of those rich UMHB athletic boosters should call up the Belton ISD and underwrite the $30/month cost to put DSL out there.  I'll contribute a wireless router if they do ;-)

I still have my very first modem somewhere out in the garage.  I will contribute it to the athletic department.

I think that it is 300 baud.   :D

The Pointe du Hoc speech by President Ronald Reagan, delivered in Normandy on June 6th, 1984.

Please enjoy.

I would love for UMHB to build their own field, but this sadly is not going to happen anytime soon. The administration has said they would love to build one, but with such a good alternative in Tiger Stadium (their words not mine) they see no use in spending money that could be better spent on other needs.

So unless someone comes along and says here is money go build a football stadium, we will be at Tiger Stadium/

Former ETSU and Pittsburgh Steeler DE Dwight "Mad Dog" White has died at the age of 58.

Back when the Lone Star Conference was where HPU, McM and SRSU played football, so did Dwight White at ETSU (Texas A&M Commerce).

Texas Lutheran, Trinity and Austin College were on another track as was Mississippi College.

There was no football at Louisiana College, ETBU or Hardin-Simmons, and UMHB was just getting around to admitting men on a full-time basis.

A big thanks to Kyle Robarts and best wishes in the future!

Gonna miss you! :(

must be getting near time to talk football.  Dave Campbell's came out this week.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Director's Cup

Congratulations to McMurry for finishing 42nd in the 2007-08 Director's Cup, highest of any ASC school.  McMurry amassed 358 points for the year.

Congrats to McMurry on getting so high up in the rankings. I have a few questions about The Director's Cup.

First how many sports does a school need to particpiate in to really compete to win the Cup? Do any ASC team have a chance since we dont have lacrosse, rowing, water polo, etc?

Also maybe I am mistaken but I am only seeing a few of the ASC teams listed on the standings, am I misssing the schools or are they not there?

The Cru were close behind with football, softball, men's hoops and men's golf (264.5 points for 69th.)

We would instantly "double" our totals by splitting into 2 conferences.

You get 25 points for making the playoffs in the team sports.

Let's imagine this from men's basketball point of view.

UMHB (West Conference winner) - 25 points. Defeating Maryville MO and losing to Millsaps gives you 25 more points.
Mississippi College East Conference winner - 25 points.  Losing in the first round to anyone, 0 more points, but the teams that are in the big ASC now are already 25 points ahead of where they are now.

I have posted on this extensively before.  When I talk with knowledgeable experts on how too handle this, they do not recommend splitting the conference until we have 9-10 teams on each side.  I have tried as hard as I can to find 5 more schools who might be ASC candidates, and cannot find them.

They are NAIA and would be 5-6 years away from being full conference members.  They need to add more sports.  They just don't seem to be a "good match" for us in the ASC.  There are plenty of reasons why it won't happen soon, as much as I would like for it to happen.

If we could add 3-5 more teams to split the ASC into 2 conferences, we could get 2 Pool A bids in M&W Soccer, Hoops and Tennis.  We would get another bid in Softball and Baseball.  I am not sure what creative scheduling/conference alignment needs to be done to keep us in Cross Country, Golf.  We are shy on Volleyball, too.

The new schools coming in would need to offer 5 sports of which 3 are team sports  and one sport in each of the 3 seasons for men and women.  Dance, cheerleading and rodeo are NCAA sports.

This is what keeps some schools from joining.

Will we ever win the whole thing?  Probably never, but Trinity TX has shown what can be done! They finished at #20 with 559 points. (They actually finished tied for #9 in baseball.)

The Directors' Cup takes the top 9 performances in each gender in a sport offered by the NCAA in D-III.

Did I hear right that UMHB is preseason #4 in Lindy's?

Roughly two months til camp. Cant wait.

I wonder who is ahead of UMHB ??? Im sure Mount and UW-W, but who else? 8)

I would think Wesley could be the one ranked ahead of UMHB along with UWW and Mt. Union. I thought I remembered that they were returning a lot more than the Cru will be returning.
