Hardin-Simmons has a new athletic's web site. If you have www.hsuathletics.cstv.com as your bookmark, you will have to change it to just www.hsuathletics.com.

From all the discussions I've had this off season, the worry @ HSU is a repeat of last year.  Plenty of offense, issues with defense.  Having J Neal on the sidelines at HPU should make the HSU-Howard Payne game interesting as well.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

McMurry track all-American Bert Green is coaching at HPU, too.  If Green can get some sprinters in the receiving core, then that may help HPU, too.

So the question is, do loyalties end with the paycheck?  How much detail of the HSU and McM offenses get shared with HPU defensive coordinator?

If the ASC coaches haven't figured out HSU's offensive scheme yet, they haven't been paying attention.  It hasn't changed much in the last 18 years...

Interesting to note on the new HSU website that there are two new co-coordinators on the defensive side of the ball.  I hadn't heard that announced previously...

I was thinking nuances that game film might not adequately show, but good point Josh.  I;m not sure about the new coordinators.

Y'all might want to check this out and comment some.  I've got a few people on the Tennessee Titans message board talking d3 football.  ;D

No, loyalties lie with the team you are playing with that day...

Playground ball.  You got picked by "skins" to play against the "shirts".  You are a "skin" that day and you play as hard and as fairly as you can.  That is what you owe the game.

I found this update on Jake Allen with the Green Bay Packers. Apparently, he is doing very well. We're gonna miss him at MC this year.

QuoteEvery year there's a rookie or two that goes undrafted yet beats all odds and makes the Green Bay Packers' 53 man roster.

Last year that player was defensive tackle Daniel Muir. Another notable Packer that went undrafted was Tony Fisher who became the team's third down back in his first season.

This year the early favorite to make the team as an undrafted rookie free agent is wide receiver Jake Allen. So who is this relatively unknown player...?

Allen earned first team All-American honors in Division III while playing at Mississippi College. While there, he set school records in receptions (152), receiving yards (2,867) and receiving touchdowns (26) despite playing for only three seasons.

During the 2007 season alone he caught 61 passes for 1,254 yards and 12 touchdowns.

It looks like Allen has already made his mark with the Packers. During the recently concluded minicamp, he caught the eye of a couple of journalists.

According to Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "Jake Allen was the fifth WR in the Packers' Big Five formation at one point ... he's really impressive getting off the line of scrimmage. He's also smooth and can kick it into another gear to get under passes."

Considering the top four wide recievers were Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, James Jones and Jordy Nelson, that's really impressive. That means that Allen is already in the rotation ahead of Brett Swain whom the Packers had thought highly enough of to spend a draft choice on. He's also ahead of players like Shaun Bodiford and Chris Francies who have spent time on the regular season 53 man roster in the past.

Allen also caught the eye of the Green Bay Press-Gazette's Tom Pelissero during minicamp.

"Undrafted rookie WR Jake Allen had a nifty, toe-dragging catch along the sideline on a pass from Matt Flynn during the blitz period," wrote Pelissero during one of the team's practices.

There's certainly a long way to for Allen, but he's putting himself in the right position for the moment being.

"I can't tell you how excited I am to get this chance", said Allen. "It's a long way from home, but that's not a concern right now. I have an opportunity to prove that I belong there and I'm gonna make the most of it."

Here is another reason to celebrate the 4th.  Freedom for any fellow human being is freedom for me.  The above essay includes a letter from a Gold Star Mom.

As I view the 21st century, I believe that it will be no different than the previous ones.  There are two types of people in the world, those that want to expand the bounds of liberty and justice for all and those that want to control the lives of others.  That shall be the challenge in the 21st century.

One of the dormitories at McMurry is named Gold Star, in honor of the McMurry former students and alums who lost their lives in WW II.

Here is a good story on MC quarterback Adam Shaffer, written by Parrish Alford of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.

Any East Texas Baptist lurkers over here?  We're down to 57 days, 4 hours, 5 minutes and 35 seconds until kick-off.  I figure we may as well get to know each other before the season starts.

We welcome you over to our domain as well.

(If a few days or more go by before there is a response, PM me to let me know you are there.)

Oz--

I'm not a ETBU fan, but am glad to see you guys playing each other.  I only wish you could have worked out a home-and-home...
